ELLA (VAN ZUIDEN) NANIGA , 92, of 605 9th Ave., Fulton, died Dec 5, 1991, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with the Rev. David Landegent, pastor of the Second Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Naniga was born Jan 29, 1899, to John and Jennie (Smit) Van Zuiden. She married Roy Naniga Dec 27, 1918, in Garden Plain. He died Oct. 10, 1978. She was educated in rural Whiteside County schools. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Lester (Jean) Baptist, Fulton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Van Zuiden and Mrs. Alder (Jennie) Decker, both of Morrison, and Kate Van Zuiden, Fulton; two brothers, Fred Van Zuiden, Morrison, and Henry VanZuiden, Fulton. She was preceded in death by one son and four brothers.

GLADYS M. (RUSSELL) RYDBERG NARDL , 94, of Galva, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rux Funeral home, Galva, with the Rev. Robert Karjola officiating. Burial will be at Galva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial have been established to Galva Senior Citizens Center and Vasa Lodge, Bishop Hill. Mrs. Narhi was born march 21, 1905, in Tampico, the daughter of Maurice and Helen (Collins) Russell. She married Joseph Rydberg on March 29, 1923 in Galva. He preceded her in death May 31, 1964. She married Arnold Narhi on Sept. 4, 1966, in Winona, Minn. He preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Galva Senior Citizens Center and the Vasa Lodge. She was a gifted painter of china and pictures. Survivors include three sisters, Helen (Richard) Gill of Davis Junction, Alta Wehmeyer of Polo and Villa Eads of Lanark; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Russell, Leonard Russell and Leo Russell.

EMILY JOSEPHINE (WELANDER) NEWELL , was born in Sweden Jan. 25, 1865, and passed away Nov. 2, 1939 at her home in New Bedford at the age of 74 years. She came to America at the age of six. Her mother died at sea leaving two girls as orphans. They went to Princeton where they were cared for by friends until homes were provided for them. She was married to Michael C Newell on May 30, 1882. Four children were born to the union. One son passed away in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Chew of McKeesport, Pa., preceded her mother in death. Mrs. Jessie Miller of Hooppole, Verner Newell of New Bedord and a sister, Mrs. William Hazelton of Plymouth, Ind., nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive her. Mrs. Newell became a member of the New Bedford Church of Christ about 30 years ago. She found her greatest pleasure in helping those whom she felt were more unfortunate than herself. She went into many homes on all occasions to lend a helping hand, as well as taking 11 children of different families into her home and giving them a mother's care after they had lost their own mother. She carried on her mission of self sacrifice until ill health made it necessary that she leave the work to someone stronger. Besides the relatives she leaves to mourn her passing a host of friends and loving neighbors. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with a short service at the home and church service at the New Bedford Church of Christ. Rev. Maynard Woudsma officiating. The singing was rendered by Mrs. Mabel Nelson and Mrs. Teressa Lathrop, Miss Pauline Lindgren, accompanist. The casketbearers were Robert and John Hellier, Frank and George Newell, and John and Allen Newell. Interment was in the family lot on Greenville-Fairfield Cemetery.

MARY NICHOLAS , one of Coleta's most highly esteemed residents, died Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. after 2 strokes of apoplexy, having been ill since Friday. Funeral services will be held at the family home at 1 p.m. Friday and at 2 o'clock in the United Brethren church, conducted by Rev. Mr. Lutz. Mary Henton was born in Genesee township August 7, 1857, and was married to Wilson Nicholas in April 1872. To this union were born five children, all of whom will reach Coleta before the funeral. They are: Homer, of Milledgeville; Charles, of Hamilton, Iowa; Arthur, of Rockford; Mrs. Elsie Ealy, of New Hersey; John of Rockford. She also leaves three brothers and two sisters, as follows, Jerry Fenton, of Freeport; Charles, of Kent; William, of Dixon; Mrs. Addie Null, of Milledgeville and Mrs. Anna Frankfather, of Coleta. Mr. Nicholas died 23 years ago. Mrs. Nicholas was a lady of many admirable qualities, a mother whose memory will always be cherished and a neighbor whose kindliness endeared her to all. ESTHER ANN NICKELSEN , 84, Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, formerly of 1100 11th Ave., Fulton, died Monday at the nursing home. Funeral services will be at 1:30 on Wednesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home with the Rev. Clark Kilgard of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa, officiating. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, or the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fulton. Born on Aug. 10, 1898 in Clinton to Bernard and Emma Von Alten Nickelsen, she attended the Clinton grade and high school and was a graduate of Northwestern University of Music in Evanston. She served as supervisors of music for public schools in Wyoming and taught for many years in the Sterling Public schools. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, The National Education Association and the Whiteside County Education Association. Active in volunteer work at the YWCA in Clinton, she was also a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church L.C.A., where she was very involved with aid societies there. She had resided at the Harbor Crest for the past four years. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. William (Bernice) Considine, Fulton. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

RICHARD H. NICOL , 73, of 1807 Ave. K., Sterling, died Monday afternoon at CGH Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Nicol will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Francis McDonnel officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Sterling. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Local arrangements were completed by the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling. A memorial has been established in his memory. Mr. Nicol was born Aug. 23, 1916 in Dixon, the son of Connell L. and Elizabeth Newman Nicol. He married Marian Gagin on July 27, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church; Monsignor A.J. Burns officiated. Mr. Nicol was employed by the Sterling Fire Department for 46 years, serving as chief from 1955 until his retirement in 1981. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Sterling Rotary Club, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association. He also served on the Whiteside County Board for four years and was a Sterling Fourth-Ward Alderman at the time of his death. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert J. of Urbana, and Gregory R. of Sterling; three daughters, Mrs. William (Susan) Gartner of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Elizabeth A. Hendricks of Champaign; and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Kobbeman of Rock Falls; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.

ORA LILLIAN (COATES) NOON , The death of Mrs. Thomas Noon occurred last Friday, March 9, after an illness of some length. Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ at 2 o'clock P.M. Sunday, March 11 by Reverent F. V. Kearns, pastor assisted by Reverend George Gable, pastor of the Methodist Church and Reverend S. B. Cobb, pastor of the Baptist Church, and interment made in Tampico Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas Noon was born August 12, 1864 near Bidwell, Gallia County, Ohio, and departed this life March 9, 1912 at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 27 days. Her maiden name of Ora Lillian Coates. She was united in marriage to Thomas Noon, December 19, 1882. Four children were born to their union, Mrs. Samuel T. Hilger of Prophetstown, John of Tampico, Earl of Carvallis, Oregon and Benjamin of Prophetstown. She also leaves 11 grandchildren. Two sisters and four brothers have preceded her in death. Two sisters are still living in the state of Ohio. Mrs. Noon united with the Christian Church at Yorktown in 1894 and was baptized by Reverend W. B. Clemmer. Until moving to Tampico, she resided on the farm 5 1/2 miles southwest of Tampico.

GLADYS I. (HOUSE) NORNHOLD , 79, formerly of Rt. 4, Sterling, now of 1510 13th Ave., Rock Falls, died Monday afternoon (18 Feb 1980) at Community General Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Nornhold will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home with Rolla M. Montee, Elder of Jehovah's Witness of Rock Falls, officiating, with burial in Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling. Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in her memory. Mrs. Nornhold was born on Aug. 25, 1900 in Fairdale, the daughter of Ralph and Nettie Eddy House. She was united in marriage to Mr. Nornhold Dec. 31, 1917, in Hagerstown, Maryland. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1980. She is survived by three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one brother, Paul House of Como. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and two great grandchildren.

MYRLE D. NUTTER , 88, Prophetstown, formerly of East Moline, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at the Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown. Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Gardner-Gibson Funeral Chapel, Prophetstown. Inurnment will be at a later date at Eldorado Cemetery, rural Harrisburg. Visitation will follow the services until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mr. Nutter was born July 22, 1911, in Salem, Ore., the son of Frank and May (Stearns) Nutter. He married Augusta DePape in January, 1932. Following her death, he married Anna Boreland in June, 1950. She died in March, 1992. He worked for the City of Moline's sewer and water department until his retirement. Following his retirement, he served as road commissioner for Harrisburg Township for a number of years. Survivors include three sons, Delbert Nutter of Prophetstown, Donald Nutter of Houston, and Jack Hartwell of Brownsville, Texas; sisters and brothers, Marion Bentfield, Edna Lemm, Delores Bruneau, Kathleen Thomas, Philip Nutter, and Arnold Nutter, all of Minnesota; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
