MARGUERITE (LOEBBAKA) PABER , 63, 305 1/2 E. 3rd St., Rock Falls, formerly of the Civic Plaza II, died Wednesday evening (15 June 1983) at the Franklin Grove Nursing Center, Franklin Grove. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Behrens-Blair Funeral Home, Sterling, with Father Robert M. Garrity, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dixon, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park, Evanston. There will be no visitation. Marguerite Paber was born Jan. 26, 1920, the daughter of Edward and Lena (Schwall) Loebbaka. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Rock Falls. She was employed for 21 years at the Corner Tap in Rock Falls. A memorial has been established in her memory. Survivors include three sons, James A. and Donald R. Paber, Oswego; one daughter, Mrs. Kalvin (Diann) Chapman, Rock Falls; eight grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Michehl, Arkansas; and one brother, Edward Loebbaka, Skokie. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and seven brothers

HAROLD K. PALMER , 1303 17th Ave., Sterling died Thursday morning 21 Nov. 1968 in Community General Hospital at the age of 75. Mr. palmer was born Dec. 17, 1892 in Sterling, the son of William K. and Maude Greenlee Palmer. he attended local schools and was baptized in the Methodist Faith. He was united in marriage to Jean L. McNeil on June 24, 1915 in the brides home at Rock Falls. He worked as a young man with his father at Frantz Manufacturing Co., and in 1922 went to DesMoines Iowa to represent the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. as a salesman for 20 years, returning to Sterling in 1942. He then traveled northern Illinois with Goodwill Advertising until ill health about six weeks ago. Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife, Jean; one son, William K. of Dayton Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Clark (Vera) Prentiss of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and Mrs. Marsden K. (Helen) Miller of Gregden Shores, Sterling; three grandchildren, Mrs. Michael (Yvonne) St. George of Baltimore, MD; Geraldine Palmer and Patricia Palmer both of Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles M. Chakour, pastor of the Fourth Street Methodist Church, officiating and with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Allen Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Friday.

JEAN L. (McNEIL) PALMER , 90, formerly of 1303 17th Ave., Sterling, died early Wednesday morning at Prophets Good Samaritan Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Allen Funeral Home, Sterling, with the Rev. Wayne R. Wachholz, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday to the hour of service. A memorial has ben established. Mrs. Palmer was born on April 24, 1897 in Rock Falls, the daughter of Will and Minnie Clemons McNeil. She married Harold K. Palmer on June 24, 1915 at her home in Rock Falls. he died Nov. 21, 1968. She worked as a saleslady of novelty items. She was a member of the Fourth Street Methodist Church Sterling and the D.A.R. Surviving is one son, William K., Baltimore MD; three grandaughters and one gr-grandson and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

W. KARL PALMER - Funeral services for W. Karl Palmer, 79, who died Monday morning in Community General hospital, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Trouth funeral home with the Rev. Paul Bloomquist, pastor of the Fourth Street Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in the Lyndon cemetery. A native of Rock Falls and former Sterling industrialist, Mr. Palmer had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Palmer had been prominent in civic and business circles for many years. He was one of the original organizers of Frantz Manufacturing Co., and served as secretary-treasurer of the firm. He also served on the board of the Union school district and was a city commissioner from 1931 to 1935. He was a member of the Fourth Street Methodist church and the Elks club. Mr. Palmer was born on Aug. 24, 1872 in Rock Falls, the son of William K. and Adaline Palmer. He married Maude M. Greenlee on Aug. 24, 1891, in Lyndon and the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 24, 1951. He is survived by his wife; a son, Harold K. Palmer; two daughters, Mrs. Clark (Vera) Prentiss and Mrs. Marsden (Helen) Miller, all of Sterling; five grandchildren; and three great granddaughters. Friends may call at the Trouth funeral home.

ROBERT PARKINSON , 88, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Bob was born October 1, 1919, in Le Mars, IA, to Albert and Vivian (Gates) Parkinson. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. He married Viola M. Strock on December 29, 1945 in Sterling, IL. Bob farmed along with his wife in the rural Morrison area, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Morrison American Legion Post #328 and the Morrison VFW Post #8281. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and riding his motorcycles. Survivors include his wife, Viola; one daughter, Sue (Mrs. Arlyn) Ottens of Morrison; two sons, Kenneth (Deb) Parkinson of Erie, IL and Richard (Deb) Parkinson of Rock Island, IL; six grandchildren, Patricia (Mrs. Mitch) Renkes, Christopher Behrens, Jason Parkinson, Kelly Parkinson, Shellie Parkinson, Sonja (Mrs. Adam) Samek; six step grandchildren, Bart (Cindy) Ottens, Brett Ottens, Nikki (Mrs. Mike) Arians, Stephanie (Mrs. Mark) Hartman, Sheila (Mrs. Rod) Oostenryk, Sara (Mrs. Pat) Young; two great grandchildren, Collin Renkes and Ezra Parkinson; two sisters, Thelma Conrady and Genevieve Piper. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Loughe and Dorothy Bush; one brother, Donald Parkinson.

JEWELL (BAYLES) PARRILL , 97, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, formerly of Prophetstown, died Feb. 11, 1993, at Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Gardner Funeral Chapel, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Bruce Janes, pastor of Prophetstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Parrill was born Nov. 29, 1895, in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Seymour and Ellen (Rumley) Bayles. She attended Northern Illinois University and was a graduate of Browns Business College. She married J. LaRue Parrill, Aug. 26, 1914, in Farina. They lived on the Parrill Homestead before coming to Whiteside County in 1918 where they lived in both Prophetstown and Sterling. She taught in Cloverdale rural school and was assistant teacher and office secretary at Browns Business College. She was also a news reporter for the Prophetstown Echo. She was a member of Prophetstown United Methodist Church. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, two sisters and two brothers.

ROBERT PATTEN - 73, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Bob was born October 8, 1933, in Sterling, IL, to Lester J. and Alta (Kraft) Patten. He was educated in the Galt, IL grade schools and graduated from Rock Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army and then went on to complete a tool and die apprenticeship program at the General Electric Company. He married Susan J. Howe on June 17, 1956 in Sterling, IL. Bob worked as a tool and die maker at G.E. in Morrison, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church. He was a member and served as vice president of the Morrison area AARP. He belonged to the Quad City Times Plus 60 Club, American Legion Post 296 of Sterling, and the Sterling Moose Lodge. He was a member and past president of the Morrison Lions Club, and he was a member and past Grand Master of the Morrison Masonic Lodge, Dunlap Chapter. He was a member of the General Electric Athletic Association and had served on the loan committee at the Advantage One Credit Union. Survivors include his wife, Susan; one daughter, Krista (Mrs. Steve) Wanzong of Madison, WI; four sons, Jim (Deby) Patten of Belleville, IL, Thomas (Susannah) Patten of Morrison, IL, Steven (Jaclyn) Patten of Rock Falls, IL, Mike (Deane) Patten of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Jamae (Thomas) Nichols, Charles Patten, Samantha Nye, Christopher Nye, Kyle Patten, Alyssa Patten, Grace Wanzong; one great grandchild, Naelyn Nichols; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Olson of Camp Douglas, WI and Mrs. Mary Jane Chidester of Las Vegas, NV; four brothers, Melvin (Irene) Patten of New Port Richey, FL, Gerald (Lorraine) Patten of Sterling, IL, Warren (Eva Jane) Patten of Rock Falls, IL, Tommy (Janice) Patten of Morrison, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jessie Lindley.

CHARLES H. PAYSON - Another of the old residents of Rock Falls has passed to his eternal home. Charles H. Payson, who died this morning a little after five o’clock, was of the best known and highly respected citizens of this place. His death was the result of cancer, complicated with other diseases, from which he had suffered since 1882. The deceased was born June 14, 1819, at Ulster , Bradford county, Pa. He was reared and educated at Waverly, N. Y., where in 1848 he was wedded to Mary A. Russell. In 1864, the Paysons left Waverly and came to Sterling , but in the following year they moved to Rock Falls where the family has since resided. Their present abode was one of the first in Rock Falls , having been built by Mr. Payson soon after he settled here. The deceased was a carriage manufacturer for many years. He was the father of four children, Charles Edgar, Harry E., Lizzie E. (who was the late wife of Hon. J. D. [sic] White) and Frank R. The three sons and the widow survive him. A sister, Mrs. L. Ilette , of Chicago , and two brothers of Mrs. Payson, J. P. Russell, of Clinton, Iowa, and John Q. Russell and wife, of Milledgeville, are here to attend the funeral. The sons, Charles and Harry, with their families, will arrive from Maywood today or tomorrow. Mr. Payson was a man of influence and standing in the community; he was widely known and was popular with everybody. All who knew speak in the highest praise of his character; he was noted for his strict integrity and incorruptible honor. While he never belonged to any church he was a regular attendant of the Methodist denomination, and a close follower of the principals of morality. The funeral services will be held at ten o’clock Saturday morning in the late home on Payson St .

CHARLES EDGAR PAYSON died early this morning at Watertown , the word of his death being received here about 10 o’clock. The funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. M. A. Payson on Third avenue at 1:30 o’clock Monday afternoon. The services will be conducted by the Rev. C. A. Gage, and internment will be in the Riverside Cemetery . Charles Payson was born in Factoryville, N. Y., January 21, 1850 and was married when a young man to Miss Sarah Shirley. Six children were born to the union five of whom survive, Nellie dying while a young lady. The remaining children are H. S., C. H., W. Payson, Herbert and Jennie Payson. The deceased was a member of the I. O. O. F. and was a well liked man during his residence in this city. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends as this time.

Life Passes Out This Morning and Funeral Will be Held at Mother’s Home on Third Avenue Monday. Charles E. Payson, better knows as Ed Payson, died at Watertown , Ill. , early this morning after a severe stroke of paralysis. He had been afflicted with paralysis before and the fatal stroke was received last night. The body will be brought to Rock Falls this evening on the Burlington road and will be taken to the home of Mrs. Mary Payson on Third avenue , mother of the deceased. The funeral will be held Monday at 1:30 o’clock at the home and the service will be conducted by the Rev. C. A. Gage. Internment will be made in the Rock Falls Cemetery . Charles E. Payson was born at Factoryville, N. Y., Jan. 21, 1850. When a young man he came to Rock Falls with his parents and this city has been his hme ever since. He was married to Sarah Shirley a number of years ago and to this union six children were born. Nellie died when a small child but the mother and five children survive. The children are H. S. Payson, C. H. Payson, W. Payson, Herbert Payson and Jennie Payson. The father of the deceased died a number of years ago, but his mother Mrs. Mary Payson of this city survives him. Mr. Payson was a machinist by trade and was a skilled workman until through sickness he was rendered unable to work at his trade. He was a member of the Rock Falls lodge of Odd Fellows for a number of years.

Last Sad Rights Are Held this Afternoon at Home of Mother on Third Avenue , Internment in this City. The funeral of Charles E. Payson was held this afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Payson on Third avenue . The service was conducted by the Rev. C. A. Gage, pastor of the Methodist church. There was a large attendance of long time friends of the deceased. The pallbearers were the following members of the local lodge of the Odd Fellows of which the deceased was a member for many years: A. C. Stanley, L. A. Kline, J. G. Limerick, H. I. Brewer, Ed Adams, Gus Hanson.

MARY ANN (RUSSELL) PAYSON - Beloved Rock Falls Woman Passes Away at 7 O’clock Friday Evening After Long Illness. Mrs. Mary A. Payson died Friday evening at 7 o’clock of congestion of the liver. Mrs. Payson has been in poor health for several month past, but during the past three weeks has been especially poorly, gradually growing weaker until the end came. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church in this city, the Rev. F. W. Nazarine officiating. Internment will be in the Rock Falls cemetery. Mary Ann Russell was born June 2, 1825, near Ithaca , N. Y. She received her education in that city and was married in Waverly, N. Y. in September 1848, to Charles H. Payson. They came west in the spring of 1865 and settled in Rock Falls , where Mrs. Payson has since lived with the exception of three years spent in Rock Island. Mr. Payson passed away in 1893. Four children were born to the union, only one of who survives. He is Frank C. Payson of Mankato Minn. The deceased are C. E. Payson, Harry E. Payson and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth White. There survives also one brother and two sisters, Jacob P. Russell of Brunswick , Neb. Mrs. T. Jeff Smith of Antioch , Ill. , and Mrs. Sarah Nichols of Rock Falls . Mrs. Payson was a lifelong Methodist. She united with the First Methodist church of Sterling , later transferring to the Fourth Street church when it was erected. When the Rock Falls church was formed, she was one of its charter members and has always been true to it teachings in every way. She was an upright Christian woman, an angel of mercy and a woman whose memory will serve as a lasting monument to an unselfish life. Those from out of town who are expected to attend the funeral are Miss Daisy Wood, Miss Bessie White and Messrs. Leo and Ralph White of Mt. Vernon , Iowa , Frank Payson of Mankato , Minn. , Hon. H. L. Sheldon of Champaign . Mrs. Emma Russell of Milledgeville, and Mrs. T. J. Smith of Antioch .

ELINOR B. PERITZ - Funeral services for Mrs. Ray (Elinor B.) Peritz of 808 King st., Port Chester, N.Y., were conducted by the Allen Funeral Home, 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. James Odom, pastor of the Fourth Street Methodist Church officiating, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Roscoe Eades was organist playing The Lord's Prayer and Nearer My God To Thee. Pallbearers were James Andrews, Wesley Bogott, Clrence Sheldon, William Hill Jr., Cal Yeager and Phil Ward Jr. Flowers were cared for by Swartleys. MOLLY E. (COPPER) PERRIN , 91, former Prophetstown resident, died on Friday (25 August 1967) at Crestview Nursing Home in Indianapolis, Ind. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Gardner Chapel in Prophetstown. The Rev. Paul Olson will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Friends may call on Monday afternoon and evening at Gardner Chapel. Mrs. Molly Perrin was born on July 1, 1876, in Crawford County, Wis., the daughter of Oscar B. and Viola W. Copper. After being educated in the Crawford County schools, she was married to Frederick Perrin of Wauzeka, Wis., on June 26, 1902 in Prairie du Chien, Wis. After living in DeSoto, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Perrin moved to Walworth, Wis. Following a move to Lawrence, Mich., the Perrins settled in Prophetstown in 1932. Mrs. Perrin then left Prophetstown in 1963 to move to Los Gatos, Calif. After residing in Los Gatos for 2 years, Mrs. Perrin moved to Crestview Nursing Home in Indianapolis, where she died. Mrs. Perrin was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Congregational Church. Surviviors include one son, O. C Perrin, former publisher of the Prophetstown Echo, now residing in Los Gatos, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. L. W. Cannon, Indianapolis, Ind.; and three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Perrin was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

MARGARET (MEANY) PIERSOL , 85, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the nursing home. Margaret was born October 17, 1922 in Des Moines, IA to John and Victoria (Allen) Meany. She graduated from the Oskaloosa School System in Oskaloosa, IA. She served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Dot married George W. Piersol on July 10, 1949 in Oskaloosa, IA. He died July 5, 1998. She was a member of Morrison American Legion Post #328 Ladies Auxiliary, where she was past president. She was a devoted volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Drive in Morrison. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the Mississippi River with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Diane McKim of Windsor, CT and Vicky (Mrs. Ed) Murney of Morrison, IL; one son, John (Pam) Piersol of Albany, IL; four grandchildren, Krista McKim, Lisa (Mrs. Jason) King, Karen (Mrs. Bart) Arnold, Amy (Mrs. Josh) Chladek; seven great grandchildren, Parker Ann and Marisa Chladek, Haylee and Hunter King, Tucker, Grace, and Saige Arnold; and one sister, Mrs. Gloria Grams of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, George and one sister, Mary Pittman.

OSCAR T. PLETSCH , 74, of 103 S. Fremont St., Tampico, died Friday, Nov. 3, 1995 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:L30 a.m. Monday at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Tampico, with a Mass of Christian Burial, with the Rev. Vincent J. Shindelar, pastor officiating, with a 10 a.m. prayer service at the Garland Funeral Home, Tampico. Burial will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Tampico. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, with a 7:30 p.m. scripture service. A memorial has been established in lieu of flowers. Mr. Pletsch was born on Feb. 19, 1921 in Prophetstown, the son of John and Anna (Schafer) Pletsch. He married Mary J. Heeren on Feb. 7, 1945 in Tampico. He was educated in rural grade schools and was a 1938 graduate of Tampico High School. He farmed in the Tampico and Prophetstown area for 26 years and was later employed at the Sterling-Rock Falls Co-Op before retiring in 1985. He was as member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Tampico, the farm bureau and the Tampico Community Unit Booster Club for several years. Survivors include his wife of Tampico; four daughters, Elizabeth (Larry) VanLanduit of Tampico, Connie (Kendall) DeMaranville of Geneseo, Debbie Bates of Florisant, Mo., and Diane (Barry) DeJarnatt of Sterling; four sons, James Pletsch of Ivor, Va., Gary Pletsch of Wilkinsburg, Pa., David (Lola) Pletsch of Sterling, and Daniel (Vicky) Pletsch of Prophetstown; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Plautz of Rock Falls, and Alice Sandrock of Prophetstown; one brother, Edgar (Trula) Pletsch of Winnebego; one sister-in-law, Mildred (Sam) Pletsch Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Alice Hicks Pollock was born Dec. 24, 1904 at Hagerstown, Md., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mason R. and Anna (Rummel) Hicks. She was married March 2, 1921 at Clinton, Iowa, to Ward Pollock and was a member of the Pink Ladies of Community General Hospital and St. John's Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 18, 1970. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Vina) Wolf of Sterling and Mrs. Robert (Vera) Woodworth of Clairden Hills; two brothers, Wesley and Howard Hicks, both of Sterling, and one sister, Mrs. Grace Fischback of Como; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death also by her parents.

PATRICIA (WHITE) PORTER ,, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, October 20, 2007 at her home. Pat was born July 30, 1948 in Oelwein, IA, to Marion A. and Alice M. (Cummings) White. She attended Davenport, IA grade schools and graduated from Davenport West High School in 1966. She attended Stewart Cosmetology School in Davenport and then graduated from Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. She was a beautician at Hair Headquarters in Morrison and most recently was employed at Wahl Clipper in Sterling, IL. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Jolivia) Porter of Tigard, OR and Stephen Porter of Morrison, IL; her mother, Alice M. White of Morrison, IL; two sisters, Chris (Mrs. Neil) Reynolds of Emerson, IL and Connie White of Galesburg, IL; one brother, Bill (Sally) White of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Marion A. White and her grandparents.







MARY FRANCES POTTS - 89, who was born in Hahnaman Township on Aug. 24, 1872, passed away early Sunday (22 Oct 1961) in Oak Park, where she had made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Edna Hilliard, 1207 N. Harvey. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Grennan and Son Funeral Home, followed by mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tampico at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Tampico. Friends may call tonight at 7 p.m. at the Grennan and Son Funeral Home and the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Surviving besides Mrs. Hillard, are three other daughters, Miss Bernadine Potts, Oak Park, Mrs. Lorretta Wilber, Elmhurst, and Mrs. Marcella Patesch, Blue Island. Also a son, Leo Potts, Sterling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1950, and one daughter.

ANDRE G. POTVIN - of Lockport, IL, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 in Joliet, IL. Andre was born December 22, 1981 in Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada to Pierre N. and Sharon L. (Gravert) Potvin. He was educated in the West Milford, WV area schools and was a 2000 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He had been employed by Gary Milnes Construction in Morrison, IL and was currently employed as a correctional officer at Stateville Correctional Center in Lockport, IL. He had been selected as a member of the prison's Tactical Unit. He was a union member of AFSCME Local 1866. Survivors include his parents, Pierre and Sharon of Morrison, IL; one brother, Michael (Misty Quinn) Potvin of Davenport, IA; grandparents, Ralph and Rose Gravert of Fulton, IL and Mrs. Claudine Moore of Quebec, Canada; one aunt, Lise Potvin of Quebec, Canada; four uncles, Dennis (Madonna) Gravert of Janesville, WI, Alan Gravert and Kent (Sue) Gravert, both of Morrison, IL, Marc (Catherine) Gravert of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gilles Potvin; one aunt, Francoise Potvin.
