BERTHA MARIE SALZMAN , 92, died Tuesday, Dec. 14 in her home at Lakewood, Colo. funeral services were held at Crown Hill Mortuary with burial in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Wheat Ridge, Colo. A memorial has been established to the Lutheran Home in Mendota, Ill. Bertha Salzman was born Sept. 13, 1890 in Auberndale, Wis., the daughter of John and Louise (Panzer) Hoefs. She married Adam J. Salzman on Feb. 15, 1915, he preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1976. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Max (Gladys) Fordham, Sterling, and Mrs. Robert (Daisy) Lufrano, Villa Park; one son, Dr. John Salzman, Lakewood, Colo.; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, three brothers and one sister.

SARAH (HUGENDUBLER) SEDIG , passed away at 5 a.m. Saturday in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Sedig, Rt. 3, Sterling. Death came following an extended illness. She was born Nov. 28, 1886 in Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania, a daughter of Uriah and Malinda Turpin Hugendubler. She had been a resident of this area the last eight years, and was a member of the Reformed Mennonite Church of Sterling. She is survived by five sons, Charles A., of Eastside, Ore., Ernest B., Keithburg, Ill., John H., Sterling, Elmer V., Rock Falls, and David U., Aledo, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Malinda Ripley and Mrs. Alice Dawson, Sterling; one brother, Franklin Hugendubler, Palmyra, Pa.; and 18 grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband, Elmer V. Sedig, who passed away June 19, 1941; two brothers and four sisters. The body was taken to the Melvin Funeral Home where friends may call after noon Sunday. At noon Tuesday the body will be taken to the Reformed Mennonite Church, where it will lie in state until 2:30 p.m. the hour of services. Bishop Emmitt Bankert, of Valparaiso, Ind., will conduct the services and burial will be in the Mennonite Cemetery adjoining the church.

ROY F. SELF , a former resident of Sterling, passed away in San Gabriel, Calif., Dec. 3, according to messages received here. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harold G. Barton of San Gabriel and Mrs. Glenn Deem of Sterling; a sister, Mrs. Mary Emmert, Dixon; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Dubots Funeral Home in San Gabriel.

LLOYD SHARTS - Word has been received of the death of Lloyd Sharts, Seattle, Wash., formerly of Rock Falls, who died Monday. He was a 1932 graduate of Rock Falls High School. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor; one son; one daughter and one brother, Paul.

ILLAFAY (HORNING) SHAWVER , 89, formerly of 310 E. Lincolnway in Morrison, died Thursday at the Resthave Nursing home in Morrison. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Genesee Street Chapel Bosma-Renkes Funeral home in Morrison. Lynn Longenbaugh, pastor of the Morrison United Methodist church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the funeral Saturday. A memorial has been established to the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Shawver was born on May 5, 1889 in Melvern, IL., She is the daughter of John H. and Mary Alice Hill Horning. She married Harvey L. Shawver on July 3, 1916 in Clinton, Iowa, and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1953. She was educated in the area schools. Following her marriage she lived in Idaho and Mt. Morris, IL., before returning to Morrison where she and her husband established The Whiteside County News. In 1965 she, along with her son Alvin and Bob Kingery, purchased The Whiteside Sentinel and combined papers into The News-Sentinel Publication where she remained an active partner until retiring in 1974. The deceased was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church, Wa-Tan-Ye Club, Monday Evening Club, Order of Eastern Star Prim-rose Chapter 363, Pastworthy High Priestess of Palestine Shrine No. 34 of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She is survived by one son, Alvin D. of Morrison, two granddaughters, five great granddaughters, one sister, Mrs. Berniece Weirsema of Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and six sisters.

MYRTLE L. SHEPARD , 80, of 500-1/2 E. Lincoln St., Morrison, died at her home Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Renkes-Reynolds Funeral Home with burial in Grove Hill Cemetery. There will be NO visitation. A memorial has been established. She was born Oct. 29, 1897 in Erie, the daughter of Fred L. and Lilly Belle Roberts Welch. She was reared and educated in the Morrison schools. She married Preston Shepard on April 4, 1913 in Rock Island. She was a resident of Morrison her entire life and was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. Survivors include four sons, Fred, James and Lloyd, all of Morrison, and Terry of Russelville, Ark.; three daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Velera) Stage of Rock Falls, Mrs. Betty Collins of Golconda, Ill., and Mrs. Gerald (Leona) Cossman of Fulton; 43 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, three sons, four brothers and one sister.

CLINTON R. SHEPHERD , 55, of Fulton, died Saturday. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lemke Funeral Home South, formerly Nelson Heesch Funeral Home, 2600 Lincoln Way. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. He was born Jan. 22, 1948, to Robert and Erma Fuller Shepherd. He married Donna Ashpole in Low Moor on Oct. 2, 1965. He later married Sharon Lage in Clinton on Aug. 16, 1991. He was employed with Drives, Inc. for more than 33 years. He began as a welder and later became a foreman. He was an active member of The Eagles Club. Survivors include his father, Robert R. Shepherd of Clinton; three sons, Clifton L. Shepherd of Clark, Mo., Christopher Shepherd of Clinton and Curtis (Kim) Shepherd of Davenport; two daughters, Mrs. Cindy (Brian) Lynch of Clinton and Mrs. Charlene (Brian) Bacunawa of Clinton; six sisters, Mrs. Ralene (David) Ludvigsen of Clinton, Mrs. Shirley (Alex) DeMarr of Clinton, Mrs. Geraldine (Robert Jr.) Weber of Camanche, Mrs. Cathy (Charles) Andres of Reedsburg, Wis., Mrs. Gladys (Richard) Radcliff of Mauston, Wis., and Joyce Shepherd of Corbin, Ky.; five brothers, Robert H. (Judy) Shepherd of Clinton, James Shepherd of DeWitt and David (Pam) Shepherd of Clinton, Richard (Tami) DeMarr of Inergrove, Minn., and Russell Good of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his mother, a brother, a niece and a nephew.

MAE S. (BECK) SHEPHERD , 88, of Erie, died today in Community General Hospital, Sterling. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Gibson Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the Erie Cemetery. Mrs. Shepherd was born Aug. 8, 1899, in Malvern, Ill. to Jacob and Lena Behler Beck. She married Frank Shepherd, Feb. 2, 1919, in Morrison. He died in 1967. She was a former employee of Shaheen's Grocery Store, Erie. Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Knox and Arlene Blixt, both of Rock Falls; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Johnson, of Prophetstown.

SAMUEL SHEPHERD , was born June 11, 1811 in Derby Shire, England, married to Mary Ann Millwood in Derby in 1850. Emigrated to America in March 1857. Moved to Newton township in August 1859, then to Fenton in 1864, at which place he lived until death called him home on March 5, 1894. He was a member of Primitive Methodist church, uniting in early manhood. He was one whom all respected for his constant and exemplar life, and those who knew him best, loved him most. He was a good husband, father and neighbor, and never was known to speak ill of any one, forgave those who wronged him, gladly and holding malice toward none, were among his last words. He was father of thirteen children, three preceding him to the unknown. Those who are left to mourn are the following: His faithful wife and ten children are Mrs. Maria Stockle of Sterling, Samuel, Junior, of Fenton, Mrs. Hannah Gibler of Dallas CO. IA, William of Fenton, Harry and Mrs. Sarah Terry of Canada, Chester of Van Orin, Mrs. Ella Eads of Fenton, Frank and Mrs. Elizabeth Modler of Sterling, Harry and Frank are unmarried and live on the old home place. Rev. E. A. Spring of Erie, officiated at the funeral. The remains were interred in the Lebanon (Fenton) cemetery to await the final resurrection. The funeral occurred Wednesday March 7th at 10:30.m.

ANNIE MAY (JUMPER) SHUGHART ,77, N. 4th Ave., died at her home at 11:45 p.m. Thursday after an extended illness. The body was taken to the Melvin Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Harry E. Shiffer, pastor of the Rock Falls Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Shughart was born April 21, 1878, at Plainfield, Pa., daughter of Simon and Elizabeth Rickabaugh Jumper. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Clara Hess, Rock Falls, Anna at home, and Mrs. Myron Madison, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, William of Moline, and Dan at home; two brothers, Elmer Jumper of Rock Falls, and David Jumper of Carlisle, Pa.; and four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Her husband, Franklin, died Aug. 26, 1933. Several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.

ANNYCE E. SLOCUM - Funeral services for Mrs. Annyce E. Slocum of Morrision who passed away Saturday morning at the home of her daughter where she made her home were held Tuesday afternoon in the Reynolds Funeral Home. The Rev. David Fouts, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiated, and burial was in the Lusk Memorial Cemetery at Albany. Pallbearers were Charles Slocum, Charles Yohn, Blair Slocum,Warren Slocum, Richard Digby and John Besse. The beautiful floral arrangements were taken care of by Mrs. Reuben Garwick, Mrs. Fred Hammer and Miss Myrtle Ewers. A special organ selection was played by Nancy Digby. Mrs. Abe Renkes, organist, played the prelude and postlude for the service.

GERTRUDE STUFF - The funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Stull will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Woods Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Samuelson of Rockford. MARION FRANCIS SWICK , 78, died May 13 in the Nevada City Hospital, Nevada, Mo., and was buried in City Cemetery, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Tuesday. Born Feb. 2, 1894, the son of Osborne C. and Eliza Jane Bass Swick in Merna, Neb., he was united in marriage to Lula Maude Forney, who preceded him in death Jan. 10, 1942. A veteran of World War I, he worked for many years as a fireman for railroad companies until 1944, when he was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling, until full retirement. He was united in marriage to Ethel Rhes (?) in Como in July, 1965, and they moved to El Dorado Springs to make their home about five years ago. Surviving are his wife, Ethel; a son Clifford of Sterling; a daughter, Mrs. Doris Maynard, Rock Falls; two stepsons, John Kneebone, Waldport, Oregon, and Edward Switzer of Chicago; five step daughters, Mrs. Maude Torres, Waldport, Ore., Mrs. Barbara DelRosario, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; Mrs. Dollie Kusior, Dixon; Mrs. Velma Steder, DeKalb; Mrs. Sally Branch, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Ella Hoagland, Rock Falls; a brother, William of California, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
