LORENZO D. SHELDON
was found dead in bed Friday morning at his home on summit avenue. He was as well as usual when he retired he night before and appearances indicated that death took place as he slept. His eyes were closed, his face wore a peaceful expression and there was not a single evidence of pain or struggle. Mr. Sheldon was in his eighty-seventh year and his death was doubtless due to age with its attending enfeeblement. Two years ago he suffered a quite severe paralytic shock, from the effects of which he never fully recovered, although he regained a very comfortable degree of health. About a year later he sustained a lighter shock, but an uncommonly strong constitution enabled him to withstand it and up to the day before his death, when he walked downtown and back, he was unusually spry and active for a man of his years.
Mr. Sheldon was a native of this town, being the youngest of the four children of Mrs. and Mrs. Nathan Sheldon. He learned the blacksmith trade and worked at it here, and early in life married Miss Wilbu of this town. Shortly afterwards he went west and lived there for 14 years. Mr. Sheldon's first wife, who died in the west, bore him four children, tow of whom, Mrs. Sylvia Clegg, with whom he made his home during his last days, and Ira Sheldon of this town are still living.
After Mr. Sheldon returned from the west he was employed as a tin peddler by Billings Bros, for some time, and later he engaged in the tin business with his son Charles in a store on Center street. The son died and 13 years ago and not long afterwards, Mr. Sheldon soldout to S. Woodhead and retired. Mr. Sheldon's second wife was Miss Electa Parker of this town whom he married some 35 years ago. She survives him with a son and daughter, John and Mary Sheldon.
