DAVID A. SAMORA
- Funeral services for David A. Samora were held Wednesday morning with a 9 a.m. prayer service at the Grennan Funeral Home. Mass of the Resurrection followed at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with Rev. Thomas Brantman officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Milton, Pat Burge, Rich Krey, Don Hansen, Robeert Samora and Larry Samora.
BERTHA (WIEBENGA) SCHAVER
, age 84, of 927 13th Ave., Fulton, died Friday at her home. Funeral services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today. A memorial has been established at the First Christian Reform Church and Fulton Community Christian School.
Mrs. Schaver was born Dec. 7, 1905 in Whiteside County, the daughter of Klaus and Rena Zeeryp Wiebenga. She married Gabrial Schaver Feb 12, 1925, in Fulton.l He died in 1987. She was educated in rural Smith schools. She was a member of the First Christian Reform Church, was treasurer of the Dorcas Society for many years, and a charter member of the Forget-Me-Not Circle of the Community Christian School.
She is survived by two daughters, Thelma Marinus Kloet, Kenosha, Wis.; Gloria Clare Peska, Sterling; two sons, William and Harold, both of Fulton; one sister, Clara Jake Vogel, Clinton; two brothers, Corneil and John Wiebenga, Fulton; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
JAMES E. SCHAVER , 90, of Fulton, died Monday October 6, 2003 at Mercy North Hospital, Clinton. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Reformed Church, Fulton. The service will be preceded by a 9:45 a.m. family prayer service at the church. The Rev. Wendell Davelaar, pastor of the First Christian Reformed Church, the Rev. Michael Shipma, pastor of the Knox Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Aaron Senneff will be officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery. He was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Morrison, Ill., to Cornelius and Elizabeth Dykhuizen Schaver. He married Jeanette Vander Eide on Dec. 4, 1934, in Morrison. He was educated in the West Clyde School in rural Whiteside County, Ill. He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison and Fulton area. He was employed with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad before retiring in 1969. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church where he served as an elder. Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Pearl (Cecil) Geerts of Fulton, Mrs. Florence (Larry) Shipma of Fulton, Mrs. Annette (Doug) Smith of Fulton, Mrs. Ruth (Michael) Senneff of Bettendorf, Mrs. Judith (Ronald) Schaver of Morrison and Mrs. Joyce (Keith) Hamstra of Morrison; two sons, Kenneth J. (Arlene) Schaver of Morrison and Vernon (Jeannie) Schaver of Fulton; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Leona (Jean) Borgman of Fulton. He was preceded in death by a daughter, a grandson, two sisters and two brothers. Memorials may be made to First Christian Reformed Church and Unity Christian School, both in Fulton. JEANETTE (GRIEDE) SCHAVER
, 77, Erie, died Sunday at Morrison Community Hospital. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Newton-Zion Reformed Church, Newton Township. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Tuesday at Gibson-Reedy Funeral Home, Erie. The family plans to establish a memorial. The former Jeanette Greide was born in Denrock, ILL. She married Clarence Schaver in 1929 in Erie. He died in 1980. She was a member of the church and Erie Senior Citizens. Survivors include a son, Donald, Erie; daughters Beverly Krueger and Jean Spaid, both of Erie; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and sister Frances Meyer and Gladys Brightman, both of Erie.
MARY (VANDERSCHAAF) SCHAVER
, 74, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (09 Jul 1960) at her home following a heart attack. Funeral services will be conducted at the First Reformed Church in Fulton Tuesday at 2 p.m., preceded by a prayer service at 1:45 in the church parlors for members of the family. The Rev. Ray Olthof, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sikkema Funeral Home.
Mary Vander Schaaf was born in Ustick township on Dec. 21, 1885 the daughter of George and Elsie and was reared and educated in the Ustick community. She was married to Martin Schaver of Morrison on April 6, 1906. They farmed in the area until 1944 when they retired and moved into Fulton to make their home. Mr. Schaver preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1953. She was a member of the First Reformed Church and the Helping Hand Society of that church.
Survivors are five sons, Clarence, Erie; George, Hawthorne, N.J.; Albert, Fenton; Marion and Andrew, both of Morrison; three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Lynch, Fulton; Mrs. Arthur (Jennie) Volght, Chicago; Mrs. Herman (Grace) Vos, Morrison; 17 grandchidlren and six great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. John J. Buikema, Ustick.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Henry; one sister, Anna; three brothers and one sister in infancy.
FRANK EDWARD SCHEHL
, 72, died of crushing injuries in a tractor accident on his farm Wednesday afternoon. (2 Dec. 1970) Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Catherine Catholic Church, Prophetstown, with the Rev. Cletus Anger, officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at St. Catherine Church, Friday evening at 7 p.m.
Mr. Schehl was born Nov. 26, 1898, in Henry County, the son of Henry and Mary Schreiner Schehl. He married Ruth Fitzgerald, Garrison, N.D., Feb. 10 1923. He had lived in Prophetstown all his life except for 11 years in North Dakota. He was a member of St. Catherine Church, Prophetstown.
Survivors include the widow; two sons, William F., Buenos Aires, Argentina; Dennis E., Baltimore, Md.; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) McKenna, Mrs. Richard (Marjorie) Sommers and Mrs. Neil (Eileen) Detra, all of Prophetstown; Mrs. Bernard (Marilyn) Null Jr., Erie; one brother, Fred, Prophetstown; two sisters, Mrs. T. C. (Betty) Nowers, Atkinson; Mrs. Vincent Dunn, Morris; 21 grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, and two sons. Visitation will be at Gardner Funeral Home Frjiday from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established.

, Services for Harry S. Schlough, 609 Ave. E., Sterling, who died Tuesday, (05 March 1957) were held Thursday afternoon in the Allen Funeral Home with Dr. Alfred L.Grewe, of St John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial was in
Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Mrs. Roscoe Eades played several organ selections. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Russell Wahl, Mrs. Fred Behrens, Mrs. Harry Wade, Miss Elma Johnson and Swartley florists.
Pallbearers were Russell Wahl, Fred J. Johnson, Fred Behrens, Steve Weidel, Harry Wade and Carl Roessler. Out-of-town relatives and friends attended from Dixon and Milwaukee, Wis.
MARIAN (LITTLE) SCHULTE
, 80, of Dixon, died Monday, February 2, 2009, at Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, Dixon. She was a beautician prior to her retirement.
Marian was born October 1, 1928, in Sterling, IL, the daughter of David Henry and Evelyn
(Gettle) Little. She married Everett John Schulte on October 5,1947. He preceded her in death on
March 27, 1999. She married Richard Scharpf on October 23, 2001. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2004. Marian
was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon, Petunia City
Quilters, Red Hat Society, Bereans, and past member of the Dixon Lions Club.
Survivors include one son, David Schulte of Harmon; one daughter, Vicki (Pat) McDermott of Naperville; one brother, Donald (Lucretia) Little of Sterling; three grandchildren, David Schulte, Diane (Arnador) Ontiveros, Cara (Chris) Quinn; three great grandchildren, Baylin and Angelina Johnson, and Maeve Ontiveros.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Cindy Schulte; one granddaughter, Katherine Schulte; and one daughter-in-law, Martha Schulte.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Marilyn Nolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Visitation will be from 5 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon.

ALICE (KOENES) SEAMAN-HEUN , 100, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at the nursing home. Alice was born July 11, 1906 in Grand Rapids, MI to Lammert and Annechien (Vriezema) Koenes. She was educated in Michigan and Montana schools. Alice married Albert Seaman on September 20, 1926 in Lansing, IL. He died January 17, 1974. She later married Dewey Heun on November 6, 1981 in Erie, IL. He died July 15, 1987. She was a homemaker and a self employed seamstress. She has lived in Grand Rapids, MI; Conrad, MT; Rapelgy, MT; Lansing, IL; Port Wing, WI; Cable, WI; and Fulton, IL. She was a member of the Newton Zion Reformed Church in rural Erie, IL. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alma Johnson of Morrison; two sons, Burton J. (Rita) Seaman and Garry R. (Judy) Seaman both of Morrison; one stepdaughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Merrill) Bailey of Davenport, IA; three stepsons, Marvin (Delores) Heun, Wilbert (Mildred) Heun and Alvin (Phyllis) Heun all of Fulton, IL; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; fifteen step great grandchildren; seven step great great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Agnes Rozema of Grand Rapids, MI. EARL JOSEPH SHERWOOD , age 74, of Argo Fay, Illinois died suddenly Saturday, August 18, 2007, at his home in Argo Fay, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2007, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois. Father Dennis Atto of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, will officiate. Burial will take place in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Illinois with Full Military Rites accorded by the Savanna VFW. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson, Illinois, one hour prior to the service. A Memorial Fund has been established in Joe's name. Joe was born August 6, 1933 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Earl and Laura (Ducy) Sherwood, Sr.. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Clinton. Joe served active duty in the U.S. Military for four years and then as a Sergeant in the Army National Guard for twenty years. He was a member of the VFW Post #2223, Savanna. Joe was a man of many interests and skills. He was an avid water skier and a former member of the Waverly Ski Club and the Bald Eagle Water Club, Clinton, until a near-fatal car accident ended his skiing activity. He attended the Clinton Academy of Beauty and Hair and worked a short time as a Beautician. Joe taught school in Clinton, worked at Clinton Bridge works and Warren Industries, Clinton. He also worked at Swiss Colony and the Savanna Army Depot, Savanna, Illinois. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing Yahtzee and cards, especially Cribbage. Joe will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Lois, and an Uncle, Clayton Sherwood of Fulton. Although he had no children, he was a beloved step-father to Thomas Full of Florida, Sheryl Hines of Loves Park, Illinois, Mary Estey of Florida, Cathy Steder of Dixon, Illinois, Annette (Randy) Lucas of Mt. LOIS M. (LEIGH) SHERWOOD , age 74, of Argo Fay, Illinois, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 13th, at the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, Illinois. Father Dennis Atto of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the family in Lois's memory. Lois was born May 3, 1933, in Princeton, Illinois, the daughter of Ivan Hoadley and Rosie Bell Leigh. She attended school in Mendota, Illinois. Lois married Earl "Joe" Sherwood on July 13, 1993. He passed away on August 8, 2007. Lois worked as an operator in Sublette, Illinois, and also worked at the Dixon State School, and Eaton's Manufacturing and Big Meadows Nursing Facility in Savanna. She enjoyed playng bingo and cards. Lois is survived by three sons, Tom Full of Florida, Marty Clayton of Savanna, and Leroy Clayton of Savanna; four daughters, Sheryl Hines of Loves Park, Illinios, Mary Estey of Apopka, Florida, Cathy Steder of Eldena, Illinois, and Annette (Randy) Lucas of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; eight grandchilren, thirteen great - grandchildren; and two sisters, Mid Ambler of Mendota, and Rosie Austin of Joliet, Illinois. EDWARD JASPER SHIERRY
, passed away at his home in Rock Falls Jan. 22, 1924. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shierry, his father passing away in infancy. His mother preceded him the first of December and a granddaughter the 16th of December, his birthday, and we think they are united in heaven.
Mr. Shierry was born Dec. 16, 1865 in West Union, Ia., and was united in marriage to Ella Eldred, March 2, 1884. Three children were born to them, John Shierry and Ernie Shierry of Sterling, and Mrs. Mildred Shultz of Rock Falls. He joined the Methodist church about thirty years ago, where he was a faithful worker till about 12 years ago, when he helped to take care of his father-in-law and mother, who were invalids at his home, but his heart was always with God. He was a good husband and father, always ready to hep the needy. One of the boys who came to the home from his department of the barb wire mill said, "We boys all loved him."

- The funeral was held of Lloyd H. Shipman at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Melvin Funeral Home with the Rev. G. C. Taylor, pastor of the United Pentecostal Church of Elgin officiating. Mrs. J. H. Linn was organist. Burial was in Oak Knoll Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Pastor Richard Tessman, Richard Meisel, Kenneth Hammett, Leland Tedrich, Gerald Peterson and Roy Akridge. Lundstrom Florists were in charge of flowers. Rock Falls American Legion Post 9902 conducted rites at graveside with Jeff Wire as bugler.
NETTIE (HUBBARD) SHRADER
,88, of Erie, died Jan. 2, 1993, at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Erie Christian Church. Burial will be at Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie.
A memorial has been established to Erie Christian Church.
Mrs. Shrader was born June 15, 1904, in Monmouth, the daughter of Franz and Delia (Campbell) Hubbard. She married Earl Shrader June 20, 1925, in Erie. He died Sept. 25, 1977.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Bergsmith of Erie; one son, Kenneth Shrader of Erie; one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
MARLENE (MORAN) SIDDENS
- 64, of 701 Maple Lane, Sterling, died Monday, May 27, 1996 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, with the Rev. Karen Schilling, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.
Mrs. Siddens was born July 17, 1931, in Sterling, the daughter of Elmer R. and Martha Becky Moran. She married Charles Siddens on Oct. 14, 1950. She was a volunteer pink lady at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, for several years. Survivors include her husband, Charles; one daughter, Becky (Dave) Garriott of Rock Falls; one son, Robert Siddens of Sterling; two grandsons, Joshua Garriott and John Garriott; one brother, Edward (Marge) Moran of Rock Falls; two sisters, Sheryl (Donald) Deak of Elgin, and Joan (Ernest) McCallister of Kearny, Ariz.; one aunt, Ha Little; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
BERNICE R. SIMMONS
- A native of Sterling, Mrs. Bernice R. Simmons, 74, died March 25, in Hillside Nursing Home, Aurora. Funeral servicses were held at 1:30 p.m Saturday in the Healey Chapel with the Rev. Calvin M. Marcum officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons was born April 12, 1897 in Sterling. Her husband John preceded in death. She is survived by two sons, Jack and Lloyd, both of Aurora; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Norris of Monrovia, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Grace Brittell of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Jess Anning of Dixon, Mrs. Ethel Reesor and Mrs. Hettie Maynard of Sterling, and Mrs. Ruth Hawk of Milledgeville. A son William and two brothers, Warner and Ross preceded in death.
JUNE E. (SCHULTZ) SIMMONS
, 44, of Morton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at University of Chicago Hospital after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born Dec. 9, 1962, in Sterling , to John and Barbara (Ellett) Schutz. She married her high school sweetheart, Aaron Simmons, on Aug. 13, 1983. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Aaron, and two children, Stacy and Austin Simmons, both at home. She is now reunited with her son, Sean, who passed away 15 years ago. Other survivors include her parents, John and Ruth Schutz of Florida and Barbara and Real Houle of Sterling; her sister, Jan (Mike) Devine of Rock Falls; her brother, Mike Schutz of Tennessee ; and loving nieces and nephews. In all the places she lived, June was always blessed with good friends. June always said “my friends are my family.” And she leaves behind a big family. She worked for the Social Security Administration until becoming a full-time mother, Girl Scout leader, school/church volunteer, volleyball coach, basketball scheduler and office manager in her husbands business. If anyone needed something organized and completed ____they went to June. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Morton, where a Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, with the Rev. Mark DeSutter officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at the church, with a Scripture service at 7:45 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded. ROGER J. SIMON , 69, Clinton, IA, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Roger was born January 2, 1938, in Clinton, IA, to Robert and Helen (Hansen) Simon. He was educated in the Clinton grade schools and attended Clinton High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 – 1958. Roger married Bonnie Balk on April 14, 1973 in Clinton, IA. He was employed as a meat cutter for many years, and then, along with his wife, he owned and operated Simon's Jack and Jill Grocery Store in Clinton. Later he went to work for Clinton Corn Processing, which became ADM. He was a past member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and IKES of Clinton County. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Survivors include two daughters, Tamie (Mrs. Leroy) Jones of Chadwick, IL and Mindy K. Holesinger of Fulton, IL; three grandsons, Tyler and Dylan Jones and Clayton Holesinger; one sister, Harriet Smith of FL; three brothers, Ronald Simon and Harry Fuller, both of AZ; Raymond Simon of Manchester, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Richard Simon.
MARJORIE (OVERSON) SMIT , 84, of Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL, died Monday, September 26, 2005 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Marjorie was born April 27, 1921, in Osage City, KS to William and Madaline (Ohrt) Oveson. She graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, IA and attended Sauk Valley Community College in Sterling, IL. She married Cornelius "Bud" Smit on December 19, 1949 in Rochester, MN. He died November 15, 1990. Marjorie was first employed at Clinton Garment Company in Clinton, IA. She then farmed with her husband and later worked as a realtor with the Jim Pell Agency. She and her husband then owned and operated "Church-on-the-Hill Antique Shop". She also ran the "Hobby Show" at Whiteside County Fair and was named "Friend of the Fair". She was a member of the Whiteside County Homemakers. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy (Mrs. William) Tharp of Morrison, IL; two sons, Richard (Karen) Smit and Randy W. (Linda) Smit both of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Oscar) Guerrero, Wesley (Amy) Tharp, Ethan Smit, and Nicole Funderburgh; five great grandchildren, Autumn, Jade, and Isaac Tharp; Anna-Carmina Guerrero, and Kyle Funderburgh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius; one sister, Erna Oveson, and two brothers, William and Harold Oveson. JUDY POWELL STEIN
- Funeral services for Mrs. Donald (Judy Powell) Stein were held Monday morning with a prayer service at 9:30 in the Grennan and Son Funeral Home and reuiem mass at 10 o'clock in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Rock Falls. The Rev. William F. Myers officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Edward Sanders, Robert Long, Joseph Henry, Jesse Rodriquez, Jay McQuillen, Richard Reese, Robert Shimon and Jerry O'Brien. Flowers were taken care of by Swartley and Lundstrm Florists.
ELSIE C.STEINER
- Funeral services for Mrs. Lee (Elsie C) Steiner of Morrison were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Reynolds Funeral home. The Rev. Paul DeBeer of the First Presbyterian Church officiated and burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Leo Blass, Bernard Merema, Carl Wildi, Andrew Deter, George Goodenough and Cecil Nice. Friends in charge of floral tributes were Mrs. Vernabelle Bealers and Miss Glenna Gaddis. The organist, Mrs. Abe Renkes played a prelude and postlude to the services.
BETTY (LANCASTER) STONE
, 67, died in Muskegon, Mich., following a short illness. The former Betty Lancaster, was born Feb. 15, 1904 in Prophetstown, the daughter of William and Eva Ann Hill Lancaster. She received her education in Prophetstown and the Moline Lutheran School of nursing. She married Dr. Maxwell E. Stone in Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct. 19, 1929. They had always lived in Muskegon.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. George (Eleanor) Gesahl, and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Wenk, both of Michigan; Mrs. Robert (Patricia McDonnall, Wilmette; one sister, Miss Dora Lancaster, Prophetstown, 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives in the Prophetstown area. Mrs. Stone was preceded by her husband, parents, one brother, three sisters.

- Funeral services for George Milton "Mickey" Stone, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Stone, 603 W. 6th St., Sterling, who died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday (18 March 1953) in Rockford Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Friday afternoon. Services will be at 2 p.m. at the Fourth Street Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Bloomquist, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. Milo Vonderceak, of Belvidere, and burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Melvin Funeral Home.
The small son was born in Sterling, May 18, 1952.. He had been a patient in the Rockford hospital for the last three weeks.
He is survived by the parents, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Gorman of Belvidere; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George H. Stone of Rock Falls; and the great grandparents on the maternal side, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Love of Rockford
BLANCHE ELIZABETH (LINDER) STONER
, 69, New Bedford, formerly of Morrison, died Tuesday morning in Community General Hospital, Sterling. Visitation will be at the Renkes-Reynolds Funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. following which the body will be cremated.
Blanche Elizabeth Stoner was born on Jan. 25, 1914 in Seattle, Wash., the daughter of Charles R. and Eunice (Nye) Linder. She was raised in Seattle, Wash., and married Howard Stoner during 1953 in Chadwick. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1967. She had resided in Washington and Oregon until her marriage in 1953, when she moved to Morrison, and worked for General Electric for a number of years. She had resided in New Bedford since 1973. Survivors include on sister, Mrs. Helen Seitz, Rosenburg, Oregon. She was preceded in dath by her husband and one brother.
ARLENE (REYNOLDS) STOUFFER
, 62, Chicago, died Sunday (21 March 1971) in Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Gardner Funeral Chapel with the Rev. A. Dean Lundstrom officiating. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Michael Reese Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.
Mrs. Stouffer was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Prophetstown, the daughter of LeRoy and Eva Johnson Reynolds. She attended the University of Illinois and Michael Reese School of Nursing. She had been a nurse at Michael Reese Hospital until the time of her death.
She married Leland Stouffer and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Stouffer is survived by one brother, Robert Reynolds, Prophetstown. She was preceded by her parents.
MINNIE (SCHUTT) STOUT
, 218 W. 4th St., wife of Dr. A. C. Stout, passed away Sunday evening (29 March 1953) in Community General Hospial. She had been ill the past year. The body rests at the Melvin Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 o'clock this evening. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Melvin's by the Rev. David Bruce Maxton of the First Presbyteerian Church. The burial will take place in
Oak Knoll Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Stout was born July 8, 1886, in Davenport, Ia., the daughter of Charles F. and Otellia Schutt. She was united in marriage with Chester A. Stout on Aug. 31, 1911 in Toronto, Ia. Mrs. Stout was a member of Sterling Chapter 354, Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois.
Surviving are her husband, two brothers and two sisters, Ray C. Schutt of Chicago, Otto Schutt of Davenport Ia., Mrs. Harriett Wiese of Davenport, Ia., and Mrs. Ella Annis of Huron, S.D., three nieces and three nephews.
VIRGINIA N. (WITT) STRATING
, 79, of Boone Retirement Ceneter, Columbia, Mo., formerly of Fulton, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at the retirement center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Carr, pastor of the Fulton Presbyterian CHurch, and the Rev. Al Noakes, interim pastor of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, co-officiating. Burial will be at the Fulton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to Fulton Presbyterian Church's building fund and Boon Retirement Auxiliary.
Mrs. Strating was born Dec. 24, 1919 in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Carl August Martin and Selma (Behning) Witt. She was a 1937 graduate of Clinton High School and a 1941 graduate of Jane Lamb Nurses Training School, both of Clinton, Iowa.She married Irvin E. Strating on Jan. 14, 1942, in Webster Grove, Mo. He died Dec. 29, 1993. She and her husband owned and operated Strating Service, Fulton, for many years. She was a private duty nurse in the Fulton area for many years. She worked as a camp nurse for a retareded youth camp near Chicago and the Second Reformed Church Youth Camp. She was the Illinois Girl's Athletic Camp nurse at Lake Geneva, Wis., for more than 20 years. She was a confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa, and a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of Depression Glass Club, Fulton High School Music Boosters serving as president, Women's Service Club serving as president, Over 50 Club, Hilltop Home-maker Association, Jane Lamb Alumni Association serving as president, Acres for Wildlife of Conservation Department of Illinois and a former volunteer for the Fulton blood drive. She served as the 1989 Dutch Days Grand Marshal with her husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen N. (Harlan C) Lynn of Columbia, Mo.; a sister, Donna J. Witt of Maquoketa, Iowa; three brothers, Johnnie A. (Evelyn) Witt of Goose Lake, Iowa, Erwin C. Witt of DeWitt, Iowa, and Donald D. (Pat) Witt of Oscala, Fla.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Witt.
MARY BELLE (BURKE) STURTEVANT
, of 804 W. 5th St., Rock Falls, died late Wednesday afternoon (15 May 1969) in her home at the age of 83. Mrs. Sturtevant was born in Sterling on Dec. 21, 1884, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Murphy Burke. She was united in marriage on April 3, 1907 to John Sturtevant in Sterling. They lived their entire married life in this area.
Mrs. Sturtevant was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, the Rock Falls Woman's Club, the Garden Club and the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Sturtevant is survived by her husband, John; one daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Marrien) M. Metcalf of Downers Grove; three sons, Robert of Glenview, Harold of Chicago and Joseph of Arlington, Texas; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Prayer services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home and requiem mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles McNamee officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wheelock-Allen Funeral Home between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday. The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
GERDA NATALIE (CEDER) SUNDBERG
, mother of Mrs. John Schumacher, 304 West Twelfth Street, Sterling, passed away at the family home at 2 a.m. Friday following a prolonged illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Trouth Funeral Home with Dr. Alfred Grewe, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sundberg, the former Gerda Natalie Ceder, was born Nov. 2, 1873 in Sweden and came to the United States and to Sterling with her mother and family following the death of her father. She resided continuously in Sterling and received her education in the local schools. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church.
Although Mrs. Sundberg was confined to her home the last 20 years, and in bed the past 15 years, she was unusually gentle and patient. She was keen-minded, a devout Christian and had a great interest in her home and family. She was married June 22, 1893 to J. Fred Sundberg, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are the following children: Carl H. Sundberg, Park Ridge; Mrs. John G. (Mildred) Schumacher, Sterling; Mrs. Enos (Evelyn) Rohrer, Rock Island; five grandchildren, Dale C. Schumacher of Chicago, Carl H. Sundberg, Jr., of Park Ridge, Richard C., John F., and Marlene S. Roherer, all of Rock Island; two great grandchildren, Richard and Steven Rohrer; two sisters, Mrs. Jule Partridge of Sterling, and Mrs. Nels Anderson of Rockford, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, Reynold Ceder, her husband and parents preceded her in death.
HENRY FREDERICK SWINKLE
, 61, passed away Monday at his home in rural Atkinson. Funeral servcices will be held at the Gardner Chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m with Rev. Gus Simpson, officiating, with burial in Tampico Cemetery.
Henry Frederick Swinke, was born May 30, 1904 in Tampico, the son of Carl and Freda Rica (Ott) Swinke. He was educated in the Pleasant Hill School, Tampico. He was a laborer and lived in Prophetstown until he moved to Atkinson 13 months ago.
He is survived by one brother, William, Joliet, also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Otto and George, five sisters, Mrs. Bertha Currie, Mrs. Ella Thompson and three sisters in infancy. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9.
