IMOGENE THORNTON - Tampico friends received the sad news Monday morning of the death at her home in Naperville of Miss Imogene Thornton, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. W. Thornton, formerly of Tampico. This is the second blow Rev. and Mrs. Thornton have received recently as another daughter, Miss Vera, passed away on October 5th, last, and this later blow leaves them childless in their declining days. No particulars of the sad event have been received.

IRENE S. (KOCISKO) TIPTON , 79, of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, December 1, 2005, at University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Irene was born June 13, 1926 in Chicago, IL to John and Susie B. (Bazso) Kocisko. She was a graduate of Mc Kinley High School in Chicago. Irene married Wendel J. Tipton on March 23, 1946 in Chicago, IL. She was employed by the former Fidelty Life Insurance Company in Fulton, IL, for 6 years. She then worked as a teller for Swisher Savings and Trust Bank in Swisher, IA from 1969 to her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Clinton, IA where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed camping and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Wendel; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Len) Dykstra of Fulton, IL and Wendy (Mrs. Derrill) McDanel of Council Bluffs, IA; two grandchildren, Lori (Mrs. Joel) Brown and Lisa (Mrs. Tony) Loyd; two great grandchildren, Justin Brown and Alison Loyd; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" (Mrs. Charles) Marks of Spring, TX; and one brother, John (Coreen) Kocisko of Norridge Park, IL. Special family friend, Paul Carter of Clinton, IA. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark McDanel.

ROSIER R. TOLLEY , age 73, 2003 13th Ave., Rock Falls, died Saturday morning (16 Jul 1983) at Community General Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Behrens-Blair Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Roberts, pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Rosier Tolley was born on Sept. 27, 1909 in Belle Ridge, the son of Walter and Ida (Gallaway) Tolley. He was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire retiring in 1967. On Jan. 24, 1932 he married Pearl Oathout in Mt. Vernon. He was a member of the Rock Falls American Legion. Survivors include one son, William, Moline; five daughters, Mrs. Carl (Shelby) Blevins, Rock Falls, Mrs. Merrill (Judy) Howard, Sterling, Mrs. David (Lela) Mitchell, Florida, Mrs. Gary (Doris) Hale, Peoria, Mrs. Gary (Cindy) Schultz, Sterlin; 18 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, two brothers and two sisters.

DONALD F. TOLLSTAM , 63, of 1217 First Ave., Fulton, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Carr, pastor of Fulton Presbyterian Church, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial has been established to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Mr. Tollstam was born March 31, 1936, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Julia (Cosgrove) Tollstam. He was a 1953 graduate of Lane Tech High School, Chicago. He married Barbara Scorey. She preceded him in death. He later married Sharon Beckstrom on Sept. 26, 1964, in Escanaba, Mich. She survives. He was employed by Fulton Corp., Fulton, as a plant manager for several years, and later by Eaton Corp., Savanna. He was employed as an independent insurance agent in Fulton for 16 years. He was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church, YMCA Tae-Kwan-Do Club, Clinton, Iowa, former member of Lion's Club, Fulton and Fulton Community Fund. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Kirsten (Terry) Smith of Bloomington and Maila (Jim Hand) Tollstam of Fulton; two sons, Donald Tollstam Jr of the Quad Cities and David Tollstam of Wauconda; and five grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

JENNIE I. (FRANKS) TOMCZAK , 64, Rock Falls Colonial Acres, Rock Falls, died Tuesday afternoon (15 August 1983) at Community General Hospital following a long illness. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelock Allen Funeral Home, Rock Falls. The Rev. Thomas Risley, pastor of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Rock Falls will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation is Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Rock Falls Colonial Acres. Mrs. Tomczak was born March 18, 1919 in Erie, the daughter of Edward and Christina (Meyers) Franks. She married John J. Tomczak Sr., on Aug. 25, 1945 in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1972. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and the Rock Falls American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. George (Judy) Bowers, Oregon; and Mrs. Rick (Rose) Matthews, Rock Falls; two sons, Mike and John Jr., both of Rock Falls; two granddaughters, two brothers, Perry Franks and Marion Franks, both of Rock Falls. CORA B. TRUDO - Funeral services for Mrs. Cora B. Trudo, 89, a resident of the Sterling Care Center, were held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home. Rev. David Peters, associate pastor of the Rock Falls Chrisitan Center officiated the service. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. Pallbearers were Mike Armoska, Steve Armoska, Donald Ebenezer, Paul Ebenezer, Thomas Ebenezer and Phillip Vock. The organist was Mrs. Wesley H. Koster. Flowers cared for by Behrens Flower Shed.

FERN (KING) TRUDO - 80, of Rock Falls, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa. She was employed as a homemaker. Mrs. Trudo was born July 11, 1921, in Cambridge, the daughter of Herbert and Mary (Strawhacker) King. She married Glen Pierceson in 1941. He preceded her in death. She married Richard Trudo in 1972. She was a member of First Christian Church, Rock Falls. Survivors include a daughter, Debra (Ronald) Peterson, of Sterling; two sisters, Betty Hopkins of Jefferson City, Mo., and Dorothy Harmon, of Aledo; three grandchildren, Michael Wiemken, Dawn Hackbarth and Jason Pierceson, and two great grandchildren, Drew Sauer and Emily Sauer. She was also preceded in death by a son, Glen Pierceson jr., and four sisters, Nina, Helen, Esther and Lilly. Graveside services is at 11 a.m. Friday at Coloma Township Cemetery, Rock Falls, with the Rev. April McClure-Stewart officiating. Visitation is from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at McDonald Allen Grennan Funeral Home, Sterling. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.

HARRY A. TRUDO - A former Sterling barber, 55 year old, Harry A. Trudo, Wauconda, was killed in a one-car crash Monday night on Alt. 30, five miles east of Sterling. Trudo's eastbound car left the road while passing another vehicle and plowed into a ditch, hitting a dirt road spanning the ditch and catapulted to a halt on its top. Trudo, found lying beside the wreckage, was pronounced dead on arrival at Dixon Public Hospital. An inquest has been tentatively scheduled Tuesday evening at the Allen Funeral Home in Sterling. Lee County Coroner Robert Preston is to preside. Witnesses told Troopers Robert Popkin and James Cramer that Trudo's car struck the embankment broadside and flew 80 feet as a result of the impact before returning to the ground, where it rolled three times, coming to a stop 264 feet from the point where it left the road. Trudo, formerly ran a barbershop in the 1200 block on East 3rd St., and within the past month moved from Elgin to Wauconda. He was born in Sterling, March 26, 1905, and attended local schools. Trudo is survived by his father, Harry R. Trudo, Sr., 611 E. Third St., Sterling, as well as two children and two step-children. A son Richard, lives in Sterling, and another son, William, lives in a Chicago suburb. Mr. Trudo was married recently and officials had not been able to to contact his wife as of presstime today. MR. Trudo, who worked in several Sterling and Rock Falls barbershops before entering busienss for himself, was a frequent visitor to Sterling. Prior to moving to Elgin, he was in the ... area for about 20 years.

ARTHUR TURNER , 58, of 1517 Spring Valley Lane, Clinton, died Wednesday at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Chancy Lutheran Church in Clinton with Rev. Francis Griffeth officiating. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. today at the Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zorning Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Chancy Lutheran Church of Clinton, or the American Cancer Society or the Visiting Nursing Association. Mr. Turner was born September 8, 1930 in Fulton, the son of Charles and Dora Stowell Turner. He married Lou Runte in 1953. He was a sergeant of the Air Force and served from 1947 to 1951 during the Korean conflict. He was employed by Montgomery Ward and by Walter Buelow as a television technician. He also worked at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids and finally at General Electric in Morrison until retiring in 1968. He was a past coucil member of Chancy Lutheran Church, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #363 in Clinton, the Eagles Club, and Amvets Post #28 in Clinton. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Kathy) McCaulley of Olewein, Iowa; one son, David of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; his mother, Dora; five sisters, Helen Otto of Camanche, Iowa, Mrs. C. J. (Doris) Sorensen of Clinton, Pearl Perryman of Clinton, Mrs. Arthur (Charlotte) Temple of Fulton, and Rosamond Jensen of Camanche; four brothers, Charles of Richmond, Va., Robert of Burnsville, Minn., Gerald of Las Vegas, Nev., James of Clinton; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father and two brothers.

HATTIE TURNER ,Funeral services for Miss Hattie Turner, who died Wednesday at Community General Hospital, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home. The burial will be in the Tampico Memorial Cemetery. Rev. James McKelvey of the First Methodist Church, Sterling, will officiate. Miss Turner, who taught school in Sterling for 39 years, was 77 last Aug. 12. She was born in Hope Township, LaSalle County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Turner. Surviving her are three brothers, Homer, Sterling; John, Rock Falls; and Elmer, Chicago. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.

JENNIE (QUAINTANCE) TURNER - Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Turner were held in the Tampico M. E. church Sundayafternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. Frank T. Palm, pastor, was in charge of services, taking as his text Isaiah 32:17. He was assisted in the service by Rev. Theo. C. Meyer of the Baptist Church, who read Psalms 103. Mrs. Robert N. Hellier sang three beautiful solos, requested by the family, "Beyond the Shadows" by White, "Absent" by Metcalf, and "Fact to Face" by Herbert Johnson. She was accompanied by Mrs. R. F. Woods at the piano. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Friends serving as pallbearers were John L. Wetzell, Willis Brown, A. E. Bennett, E. W. Meredith, R. E. McKenzie and J.E. Strouss. Burial was in the Tampico Cemetery. Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Quaintance; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Quaintance and Ralph Quaintance, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. George Isherwood and daughter, Miss Vida of Rockford; Sheriff and Mrs. J. W. Kelly and Mrs. M. R. Brubaker of Morrison; Mr. and Mrs. John Scott, Mrs. Albert Ferris, Marion, LaVonne and Fern Van De Mark and Lloyd Vetter of Sterling; Mrs. J. E. Brown of Manlius; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reynolds and Mrs. Edward Reynolds of Lostant.
OBITUARY: Obituary: Jennie Quaintance was born May 16, 1848, in Bucks County, Pa. At five years of age she came west with her parents, settling at Magnolia, Ill., where they lived for seven years. She moved from there with her parents to a farm near Wenona. She taught school for six years. On Nov. 24, 1870, at El Paso, she was married to Charles H. Turner of Wenona. They located on a farm near her parents, where they resided for a number of years, later moving to a farm near Lostant, where they lived for 10 years. In the spring of 1905, they moved to Tampico where they have since made their home. Mr. Turned died April 15, 1914. Mr. and Mrs. Turner were the parents of seven children, two of whom, William Henry and Lily, died in infancy. The following are left to mourn the loss of a very true and devoted mother, who never could do too much for them; John W. of Tampico, Hattie of Sterling, Homer L. of Morrison, Charles Elmer of Chicago and Irene Brill, who has been at home the past five years. Besides these she leaves one brother, L. W. Quaintance of Tampico, as well as six nephews and two nieces. Her brother, Thomas D., preceded her in death a few years ago. When a girl, Mrs. Turner united with the Methodist church and remained a faithful member, never letting anything prevent her attending at Sunday school and church services as long as her health permitted. For several years she taught a class of boys in the Sunday school,. She was treasurer of the Ladies' Aid for 20 years. Everything she touched her hand to was done thoroughly. She hated gossip and always generously gave people the benefit of the doubt. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps No. 130 of Tampico. Mrs. Turner passed on at 9 p.m. Feb. 13, 1930, at the age of 81 years, eight months and 28 days, leaving the world better for her having lived.

EVA TURNEY , 90, 606 LeFevre, Sterling, died Friday at the Dixon Health Center, Dixon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Melvin-Schilling Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Myers officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday at 10;30 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Ft. Madison, Iowa, with the Rev. Roger Todd, Union Presbyterian Church, Ft. Madison, officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be established to the Cancer Society or the Heart Foundation. Eva Turney was born on April 3, 1893 in Newark, N.J. She was united in marriage to Dr. Walter L. Turney who preceded her in death in 1954. She was a 22 year member of the Union Presbyterian Church and a member of the PEO. Surviving are one grandson, Daniel Turney, Chicago; one granddaughter, Mrs. Jacob (Mary) DeVries, Janesville, Wis.; and two grandchildren. Preceding her in death were one son, Lowman Turney, 1963.

MAYBELLE K. (ADAMS) TURNEY , 1912 Ave. F., Sterling, passed away at 9:28 a.m. today (Monday 25 Sep 1961) in Community General Hospital after a lengthy illness. A memorial has been established for the Cancer Fund. Friends may call at the Melvin Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this Monday evening. At noon Tuesday the body will be taken to the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling and will lie in state until the funeral at 2 o'clock. The pastor, the Rev. Kenneth Mortonson, will officiate. Burial will take place in Oak Knoll Memorial Park Cemetery. Maybelle K. Adams was born April 8, 1913, in Erie, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel F. Burns Adams. She was united in marriage with Lowman E. Turney on Nov. 23, 1939 in Erie. Her early education was received in the Erie public and high schools and later she was graduated from the University of Illinois. Mrs. Turney had been a resident of Sterling the past 16 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling and the Sterling Lioness Cluib. Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Mabel E. Adams of Sterling, her husband and one son and one daughter, Daniel E. and Mary Helen Turney of Sterling. Preceding Mrs. Turney in death were her father in 1950, a sister Helen in 1945 and a son in infancy.

SHIRLEY MARIE (SHANNON) TUSING , 84, of Albany, IL, died Thursday, February 1, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Shirley was born December 2, 1922 in LeClaire, IA to William and Nellie (Twesel) Shannon. She was educated in Rock Island, IL schools. Shirley married Harry Glenn Bitler on June 5, 1942 in Rock Island. He died November 5, 1955. She later married Warren Tusing on January 17, 1957 in Fulton. He died April 2, 1988. She worked in the family business, the Tusing Service Station, for 30 years. She was a member of Albany United Methodist Church. She liked water painting, was an avid cook, and loved the outdoors. Survivors include three daughters, Kimberly Peppers of St. Louis, MO; Lori (Mrs. Curtis) Lisius and Deborah (Mrs. Robert) Schroeder both of Albany; one son, Ron Bitler of Albany; seven grandchildren, Brooke and Brittany Peppers, Kelsey Lisius, Amanda Deppe, Nathan (Melissa) Schroeder, Becky (Mrs. Marty) Gilday, Amy (Mrs. Josh) Mitchell; five great grandchildren, Kourtney Deppe, Alexis and Celina Gilday, Ali and Jack Allan Mitchell; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Bowen of Florida; two brothers, Wayne Shannon of Florida and Bob (Stella) Shannon of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husbands; one granddaughter, Ashley Lisius; two sisters, Harriet Howard and Maressa Mason

ELEANOR (HARTSHORN) CASEY TUTTLE , 91, of Sterling, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Sterling Pavilion. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sterling. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Schilling Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to Hospice of KSB Hospital. Mrs. Tuttle was born Nov. 21, 1908, in Sterling, the daughter of William Earl and Harriet Mitchell Hartshorn. She married Frank R. Casey. He died August 1955. She then married Charles R. Tuttle. He died in January 1984. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and St. John's Social Circle. Survivors include daughter, Sally Stewart of Dixon; a son, Frank W. (Leola) Casey of Sterling; a sister, Cora Jane Trueblood of Sterling; five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a sister, and two brothers.
