ALICE (BUIKEMA) VAN ZUIDEN , the beloved wife of Fred VanZuiden of Garden Plain, died at her home Sunday morning, of a cancer, aged 53 years. She was buried Wednesday. She was much respected and leaves many friends.

ANNA (VAN ZUIDEN) VAN ZUIDEN , 88, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the nursing home. She farmed with her husband. She was employed by Morrison Locker, Koffee Cup Restaurant, Eveningside Nursing Home and Resthave Nursing Home, as a nurses aid, until her retirement. Mrs. VanZuiden was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Newton Township, Whiteside County, the daughter of John and Jennie (Smith) VanZuiden. She married William A. VanZuiden on Jan. 18, 1937, in Fulton. He died July 14, 1957. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison and the church's Lydian Society. Survivors include a daughter, Carol (David) Kuebler of West Lafayette, Ind.; two sons, Merwyn (Leta) VanZuiden of Lyndon and Harold (Janice) VanZuiden of Carroll, Iowa; a sister, Jennie (Alder) Decker; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kate VanZuiden and Ella Naniga; and six brothers, Frank VanZuiden, Fred VanZuiden, August VanZuiden, Henry VanZuiden, John VanZuiden and Louis VanZuiden. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Dr. Calvin J. Rynbrant, pastor of Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, officiating. Burial will be at Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison.

ARLIS PEARL VAN ZUIDEN - The infant daughter, Arlis Pearl, born Monday (6 Mar) to Mr. and Mrs. August Van Zuiden of west of Lyndon at the Sterling public hospital, passed away Thursday morning. Rites will be conducted at the Reynolds funeral home at Morrison, Friday at 1:30p.m. Besides the parents, she is survived by a brother, Donald.

AUGUST VAN ZUIDEN , 78, 508 W. Morris St., died Monday at the Morrison Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ebenezer Reformed Church, Morrison, preceded by a 1:45 p.m. Family Prayer Service. The Rev. Wayne Lemmen will officiate. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery, Lyndon. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma Funeral Home. A memorial has been established to the Ebenezer Reformed Church of Morrison, Radio Broadcast Fund. Mr. VanZuiden was born on Jan 28, 1904, in Newton Township, the son of John and Jennie (Smith) VanZuiden. He was educated in the rural Newton Township School and a graduate of Erie High School He married Grace VanZuiden in Morrison on Feb 17, 1931. He was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church of Morrison and the Men's Brotherhood of the church. He farmed in rural Morrison after moving there in 1955. Survivors include his widow, Grace; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Ella Naniga and Kate VanZuiden, both of Fulton; Mrs. alder (Jennie) Decker, and Mrs. Anna VanZuiden, both of Morrison; five brothers, Frank and Fred, both of Morrison; and Henry, John and Louis, all of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one son, and an infant daughter and granddaughter.

BURTON E. VAN ZUIDEN , 79, of 200 8th St., Fulton, died Feb 1, 1994, at his home. Mass of the resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton, preceded by a 10 a.m. family prayer service at the Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald A. Jones officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery, Fulton. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established to Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton, and masses. Burton was born Oct. 16, 1914, in Fulton, the son of Jacob and Mamie (Janiga) Van Zuiden. He was educated in Fulton Grade Schools. He married Niki Carroll Nov. 16, 1952, in Fulton. He most recently was employed as a custodian and bus driver for Riverbend Schools, retiring in June of 1980. Prior to that he farmed in the rural Fulton area and was employed in truck driving. He was also employed by the City of Fulton, Water and Sewer Department. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Fulton. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Burton Jr. and Allen Van Zuiden, both of Fulton; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Everhart of Long Beach, Miss., and Irma Geerts of Fulton; and three brothers, Henry Van Zuiden of Fulton, Melvin Van Zuiden of Lawrence, Kan., and Richard Van Zuiden of Longmont, Colo. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Della Aggen and Esther Haan.

FRED VAN ZUIDEN - Funeral services for Fred Van Zuiden, 86, who passed away Thursday, after a few weeks illness, were held Saturday at 1 o'clock, from the home of his daughter, Mrs. K. Smith in Ustick, and 2 o'clock at the First Reformed church. The Rev. G. Van Pernis officiating. Mr. Van Zuiden is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Claus Klimstra of Fulton, Mrs. H. Smith of Ustick, Mrs. E. Newendyke of Garden Plain, one son John of Newton and one stepson L. T. Pyse. Mrs. Van Zuiden passed away 30 years ago, also two children passed away in infancy.

GERTRUDE VAN ZUIDEN - Services for Gertrude Van Zuiden, 72, 405 W. Park St. Morrison, who died this morning at home, will be Friday, 2 p.m. at the Second Reformed Church, Fulton. The Rev. Harold C. Ringenoldus will officiate. Burial in Grove Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Surviving are a husband, Frank; one son, Arthur, Camanche, Iowa; three brothers, Frank, George and Leonard, all of Fulton; one sister, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Bonynge, of Morrison; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was born Feb. 24, 1905 in Fulton Township and was married Jan. 3, 1927 in Fulton. The Van Zuidens had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in January. She had lived in the Morrison and Fulton areas her entire life and was a charter member of the Second Reformed Church, Fulton.

GRACE VAN ZUIDEN , 89, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at Morrison Community Hospital. She married August Van Zuiden on Feb. 17, 1931, in Morrison. He died April 26, 1982. She was educated in the Ipswich, S.D., and rural Whiteside County schools. She was employed at the toy factory in Morrison. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church, Ladies Aid, Lydian, Quilters, and was a volunteer at the Resthave Nursing Home. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Esther (Gerald) Hamstra of Morrison; four grandchildren, Gaary (Monica) Van Zuiden, Debra Van Zuiden, Rodney (Tammy) Van Zuiden, and Deane (Mike) Patten; six great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Van Dyke of Morrison; and one brother, Alvin (Leona) Van Zuiden of Morrison. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Van Zuiden, one daughter, Arlese Pearl; one grand-daughter in infancy; three sisters, Helen Prins, Kathryn Temple, and Annabelle Williams; and two brothers, Henry Van Zuiden and William Van Zuiden.

JENNIE (ARDAPPLE) VAN ZUIDEN , a Fulton resident who is well known in the Morrison locality, died at her home in that city Friday morning after an illness of some duration. She was an aunt of George and Clarence Ardapple and Mrs. Ernest Vogel of Morrison, and the families will attend the funeral services which are to be held Monday.

JOHN H. VAN ZUIDEN , 84, of 812 12th Ave., Fulton, a retired farmer, died at 1:30 Wednesday in the Jane Lamb Hospital in Clinton, Iowa, where he had been a patient since Aug 1. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Second Reformed Church in Fulton with a prayer service for relatives in the Fellowship Hall of the church at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. John Van Zuiden was born in East Clinton, Dec 6, 1877, to Fred and Alice Buikema Van Zuiden. He was educated in the East Clinton schools and married Jennie Smith at Fulton on July 4, 1899 and she passed away Sept. 1, 1932. He was a charter member of the Newton Zion Church and since his retirement in 1936, he was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Fulton. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Roy (Ella) Naniga and Miss Kate Van Zuiden of Fulton; Mrs. Alder (Jennie) Decker and Mrs. Anna Van Zuiden; six sons Frank, Fred, August, Morrison; Henry, Mount Carroll; John Jr. Erie and Louis, Fulton; 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ed Newendyke. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Smit, and Mrs. Kate Klimstra and a half-brother, Louis Pyse.

JOHN VAN ZUIDEN , 74, of 1403 10th St., Fulton, died Wednesday at his residence. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Second Reformed Church of Fulton, preceded by a 1:45 family prayer service in the church chapel. Rev. Warren Bovenkerk, pastor, will officiate. Mr. VanZuiden was born Aug. 1, 1911 in Newton Township, the son of John and Jennie (Smith) VanZuiden Sr. He was united in marriage to Marie DeVries on Feb. 6, 1934 in Newton Township. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County schools, farmed in the rural Newton Township area until 1969 and was a former member of the Newton Zion Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Fulton where he served as elder and a member of the Church Men's Brotherhood. He was employed at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton as a maintenance man until 1977 and was then employed by Agri-King in the Maintenance Department until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Audrey) Holesinger of Fulton; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four sisters, Mrs. Anna VanZuiden and Mrs. Alder (Jennie) Decker, both of Morrison, Mrs. Ella Naniga and Kate VanZuiden, both of Fulton; and three brothers, Frank and Fred Van Zuiden of Morrison, and Henry VanZuiden of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one son and two brothers.

MARGARET VAN ZUIDEN , 92, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the nursing home. She farmed with her husband in the Garden Plain, Mount Carroll and Carroll County areas. She was employed by Thompson True Value Hardware Store, Mount Carroll, Dr. Deyo Chiropractic Center, Mount Carroll, as a receptionist and then by the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home as a receptionist for 18 years. Mrs Van Zuiden was born Feb. 11, 1910, in Erie, the daughter of Adolph and Marie (Lantinga) Van Oosten. She attended Kingsbury Schook, rural Whiteside County. She married Henry Van Zuiden on Dec. 17, 1929, in Erie. He died Jan. 21, 1999. She was a former and charter member of Faith Reformed Church, Lanark, and the church's Ladies Guild, served as a Sunday school teacher, catechism teacher and as the Sunday school secretary and treasurer. She was a member of Second Reformed Church, Fulton, and the church's Home Department and Ladies Aid Society. Survivors include two sons, Roland J (Ramona) Van Zuiden of Morrison and Jay R (Dorothy) Van Zuiden of Fulton, two brothers, Paul (Frances) Van Oosten of Sterling and Harvey (Patricia) Van Oosten of Dixon; eight grandchildren; 20 Great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by six sisters, Irene Dykstra, Winnie Ven Huizen, Inez Sterenberg, Josephine Eissens, Henrietta Vander Schaaf and Stella Van Zuiden; and four brothers, Henry Van Oosten, Charles Van Oosten, Jacob Van Oosten and Marvin Van Oosten. MARIE (DeVRIES) VAN ZUIDEN , 90, of Pleasant View Nursing home, Morrison, formerly of Fulton, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at the nursing home. She farmed with her husband in Newton Township until Jan. 7, 1969, and also was employed by Paaske's home Furnishings, Clinton, Iowa, until 1977. Mrs. Van Zuiden was born June 15, 1913, in Newton Township, the daughter of Jacob and Eva (Strating) DeVries. She attended Newton Township schools, ural Whiteside County. She married John Van Zuiden n Feb 6, 1934, in Newton Township. He died June 18, 1986. She was a charter member of Newton-Zion Reformed Church, Erie, where she taught catechism, Sunday school and was a member of the church's Ladies Guild and Mission Circle. She also was a member of Second Reformed Church, Fulton, and the church's Ladies Aid Society and Home Department. Survivors include a daughter, Audrey (Don) Holesinger of Fulton; two sisters, Jennie (Jacob) Ven Huizen and Ella Mae (Alfred) Norman, both of Fulton; a brother John (Ruth) DeVries of Palo Alto, Calif.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harlan Dale Van Zuiden, in infancy; a brother, Herman DeVries; and a great-granddaughter. MARY (GRADY) OLSON VAN ZUIDEN , 99, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at the nursing home. Mary was born March 7, 1909 in Fulton, IL to John and Kate (Huen) Grady. She was educated in the Fulton Grade schools. She married Earl W. Olson on May 28, 1932 in Morrison, IL. He died August 8, 1944. She later married Dwight D. Van Zuiden on June 9, 1951 in Morrison, IL. He died August 17, 1992. Mary was employed at Scholl's Candy factory and the Item Biscuit Company both in Clinton, IA. She was also employed at Vanderbleek's Greenhouse and the Patent Novelty Company both of Fulton, IL. Mary loved to sew and bake for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed giving to others. She loved her family dearly. Mary also collected hats and dolls. Survivors include her son, Ronald (Janice) Olson of Clinton, IA; step-son Ronald Van Zuiden of San Jose, CA; three grandchildren, Cheryl McRoberts of Clinton, IA, Eric (Nancy) Olson of Phoenix, AZ, Lance (Jeri) Olson of Las Vegas, NV; three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, Jaron and McKenna Mc Roberts; Kaitlin and Everett Olson; Andrew, Silva, Alex and Aaron Olson; one brother in law, Elmer Bielema of Fulton, IL and several nieces and nephews. He was employed as mechanic at the former Morrison Implement. He was engaged in farming in rural Thomson and Morrison, IL, areas. Most recently, he worked at Fenton Co-op in Fenton, IL, until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. RANDY L. VAN ZUIDEN , 57, of Albany, IL, died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at his home in Albany. Randy was born Dec. 28, 1950, in Clinton, IA, to Lewis and Gert (Klooster) Van Zuiden. He attended the Garden Plain (IL) Grade School and graduated from Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He was a Viet Nam era veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He married Cindy Dornbush on January 10, 1976 in Albany. Randy was employed by 3M in Cordova, IL, for 34 years, retiring in February of 2008. He was a member of the American Legion Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079 in Albany, and a member of the Albany Lions Club. He was a member of the Fulton Country Club, where he served on the board for 2 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and wildlife, was an avid bowler and golfer, and a loyal Greenbay Packers Fan and New York Yankees Fan. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; one daughter, Karla Van Zuiden – at home; one son, Mitch (Nicole) Van Zuiden of Albany; his mother, Gert Van Zuiden of Fulton; one sister, Lori (Mrs. Dave) Handley of Cedar Rapids, IA; two brothers, Arlyn (Jane) Van Zuiden of Morrison, IL and Lauren (Janet) Van Zuiden of Winnetka, IL. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Van Zuiden.

WILLIAM A. VAN ZUIDEN - Funeral services for William A. Van Zuiden of 4 1/2 miles northeast of Morrison who died Sunday morning at his home after an illness of five months were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Ebenezer Reformed Church preceded by a prayer service for the relatives in the basement of the church at 1:45 p.m. The Rev. Bert Van Soest, pastor, officiated, and burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery. The body had reposed at the Tomlinson funeral home until 1 p.m. Tuesday when it was taken to the church. Nephews who served as pallbearers were Donald, Jay, Raymond and Arthur Van Zuiden, Elmer Prins and Harvey Temple. Friends in charge of the flowers were Mrs. L. A. Abbott, Mrs. James Lawry, Mrs. Charles Ottens and Mrs. Clark Jones. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. George Huisenga, Mrs. Don E. Bush, Al Van Dyke and Paul Brondyke sang two hymns accompanied by Mrs. Clayton Sikkema, organist.

WILLIAM J. VAN ZUIDEN , 60, Albany farmer, died suddenly at his farm home at 9:30 a.m. Friday. The body was removed to the Sikkema Funeral Home in Fulton where friends may call until noon on Sunday when it will be taken to the family home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Zion Refomed Church in Newton township, the Rev. Gideon Wolbrink, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton cemetery. A prayer service will be held for the members of the family in the basement of the church at 1:45. Mr. Van Zuiden was born Oct. 3, 1898 in Fulton the son of John and Jennie Poel Van Zuiden. He was married to Fannie VenHuizen of Albany on Aug. 1, 1922. He was a member of the Newton Zion Reformed Church. Survivors are his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Paul Juist, Mrs. Robert Wiebenga, Fulton; Mrs. Robert Boelkens, Albany, and Margaret at home; seven sons, Gerald, Howard, William, Wayne, all of Fulton; Jay, Harvey and Ronald, all of Albany; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Wilkens, Mrs. Paul Decker, two brothers, Klaus and Henry all of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, one sister, and one brother.

WINNIE (BUIKEMA) VAN ZUIDEN , 100, of the Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison and formerly of Fulton, Ill., died Tuesday (22 June 2004) at the nursing home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. The Rev. Phillip Sneller, pastor of First Reformed Church in Fulton, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Heun, Michael VanZuiden, Jeff Keister, Tim VanZuiden, Andrew Heun, Bradley Keister, Travis VanZuiden, Ben Heun, Tyler VanZuiden, Matthew Keister, Emma Heun and Noah VanZuiden. She was born July 26, 1903, in Fulton to Louis M. and Mary Newendyke Buikema. She married Clarence "Claus" VanZuiden on June 6, 1929, in Fulton. He died in 1967. She resided in Fulton until her husband died. She then moved to Morrison. She was educated in the rural Spring Creek School, Whiteside County, Ill. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton where she was a former member of the Adult Sunday school class. She was a "home department" member of the King's Daughters Society and the RCWM Mission Organization. She did domestic work for many years. She was employed, along with her husband, as a custodian of First Reformed Church, Fulton, from 1965 to 1966. She also worked at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison from 1969 to 1984 as a kitchen aide. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Mildred (Wilbert) Heun of Fulton and Mrs. Betty (Art) Pruis of Morrison; one son, Marvin (Ethel) VanZuiden of Morrison; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jennie Beckmann of Phoenix, Lucy Sissing of Fulton, Mrs. Dorothy (Allen) Poel of Fulton and Luella Deelsnyder of Fulton; two brothers, Marion (Gertrude) Buikema of Morrison and Louis (Helen) Buikema of Fulton; one sister-in-law, Hildred Buikema of Fulton; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Reformed Church's Radio Broadcast Ministry in Fulton or Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, two brothers and two infant siblings.

ANDREA (WOOD) VEN HUIZEN , 58, of Erie, died Sunday, August 16, 2009, at home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Erie Christian Church. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the Erie Food Pantry. The former Andree Lea Wood was born November 4, 1950, in Moline, the daughter of Raymond and Betty Holmes Wood. She married John VenHuizen on May 2, 1970, in Erie. She had been employed at the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Moline, retiring in 2008. Andree was a member of the Erie Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, antiquing and visiting with her friends. Survivors include her husband; daughters and sons-in-law, Ashley and Chad Ottens, Lyndon and Jessica and John Craven, Erie; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Isaac and Vanessa VenHuizen, Portland, Texas; grandchildren, Alexander Ottens, Rebekka Craven, Giuliana VenHuizen and Samantha VenHuizen; a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond "Chip" and Karna Wood, Erie; and a sister-in-law, Darice Wood, Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bradley and Dell.

EURODA (HARMS) VELAZQUEZ , 38, RR 1, Lyndon, died Friday at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Grennan and Son Funeral Home, Monday. Burial will be in Oak Knoll Cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday and the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m Sunday. A memorial has been established in her honor. Eudora Velazquez was born Feb. 13, 1934, at Rock Falls, the daughter of Fred and Erue Knowles Harms. She married Joseph Velazquez in Dixon, Jan. 26, 1952. They lived in the Rock Falls and Lyndon area since their marriage. Survivors include her husband, eleven sons: Joseph, RR 2, Rock Falls; Michael, Anthony, Richard, Tim, Paul, Charles, David, Fred, Dale and James, all at home, and two daughters, Theresa and Andrea, both at home.
