Attending the bride was her sister, Miss Helen Long, cadet nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital, Elgin as maid of honor and Miss Ruth Downey, Dixon, bridesmaid. Peter Burke of Tampico was best man for his brother and Cpl. Edward Long, the bride's brother was his attendent. Richard Long of Harmon, another brother of the bride and Henry Kobberman of Rock Falls, were ushers.
Baskets of beautiful peonies and ferns and palms were the church decorations. Mrs. Edward McCormick of Harmon presided at the organ to play the nuptial music. Miss Theresa Miller of Harmon sang an "Ave Maria" and Mrs. Gertrude McInerney of Harmon sand "Oh Lord I am Not Worthy" at communion. The altar boys were Mickey McCormick and Roy Considine.
The bride's gown was of white velva ray styled with a long train. Her fingertip veil fell from an orange blossom crown and she carried white roses with a center of orchids. Mr. Long gave his daughter's hand in marriage.
Blue net was fashioned into a gown of floor length for the maid of honor with which she wore a bandeau of net and flowers. Miss Downey was attired in pink net with a matching headdress. Their flowers were colonial bouquets.
A wedding breakfast was served to 25 guests at the coffee house in Dixon. Later in the day the newlyweds departed on a honeymoon trip. After their return they will reside on a farm three miles east of Tampico.
Mrs. Burke is a graduate of Community High School of Sterling and the Northern Illinois State Teachers College at DeKalb. For several years she has been a teacher in the rural school of Lee and Whiteside Counties.
The out of town wedding guests included: Mr. and Mrs. William Leahy LaPorte Ind., Mrs Mary Leahy and Miss Anna Ward, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs William Burke and Mrs. Sterling Burke and son Ted and daughter Helen, Tampico; Mr. and Mrs. W.J. McCarthy Rock Falls; Mrs. Margaret Burke and Mrs. William Hedrick, Sterling; Mr. and Mrs. James McGlaughlin, Maytown and Mrs. Whalen, Shefield.
