Baker, Alonzo Pulaski--physician

was born 08 Nov 1848 Benton Co, TN. He came to Wmson Co in 1850. He was the s/o Jonathon. During the Civil War, he was in Co I 13 IL Cav. He married 07 Apr 1869 in Wmson Co, to Martha Jane Matheny. She was born 08 Mar 1850 in Weakley Co, TN. He went to the Cincinnati Medical College, and graduated 03 Mar 1875. The Martha died 01 Aug 1885. They had the following children: Dr Griffin Jonathon, Dr Miles David, Dr Virgil AS, Elsada (m Asbury), Marcus W and a daughter which died as an infant. .In 1873 he entered the Cincinnati Medical College and began practicing in Cottage Home in 1875. Alonzo's second marriage was to Lizzie Graves Day on 03 Sep 1885. Lizzie was born in 1851 in Smith Co, TN. They have one daughter, Bernice. (1887 & 1905)

was born 05 Sep 1857 in Grassy Twp, Wmson Co, IL, the s/o Benjamin Jackson Baker. He went to school at what is now SIU-C in 1877. He began teaching in 1875. He married on 12 Jul 1877 in Wmson Co to Sarah D Fly the d/o Rev WO Fly. In Oct 1896, he became a minister at the Missionary Bapt Church.. In Sep 1903, he opened a bookstore with James A Felts. His father had been a soldier under Napoleon in Germany and he died 05 May 1858. His mother died in May 1858. David married Lucinda Blake on 19 Apr 1864. She was born 04 Aug 1837 in Jefferson Co, IL. born 15 Feb 1859 in Belleville, IL. Her father was John Murray, born in TN. He came to IL in 1859. Her mother was Jane (Harlan). Mary Married on 10 Feb 1882 to August Barth. He died Jul 1901 age 68. Mary's home caught fire in Mar of 1903 and was destroyed. (1905)

b 17 Nov 1822 in Gyernsey Co, OH the s/o James and Mariah (Wilson) Borton. The father was born in 1801, Mt Holly, NJ. He married Mariah in 1820 and died in 1864. The mother was born in 1802, Loudon Co, VA and died in 1855. Reuben married in OH then Rueben took to traveling going to Mexico and CA. This first wife died in 1855 leaving one child, Josephine. In 1859 Reuben was in CO. While in CO, he married a second time, this wife died in 1872 in Sanfranciso leaving two children, Arthy and James. In 1880 he married hsi third, Mattie Simmons the d/o Levi and Fannie (Cole). Their children are Maud and Wetzel. (1887)

born 23 Nov 1895 in Wolf Creek, Union Co, IL the s/o George W and Elmira Conzadia (Mann). He married Etta Elliott the d/o William D and Isa (Davenport). The family lived in Herrin They had one son named Charles. Dallas was a baseball player early in life (see his obit). About 1914, he went into business with his father and brother, Miles, in the family insurance business in Herrin. He took complete control of the family business after his brother died in 1937. Dallas died 09 Dec 1939. His wife Etta remarried to Fred John Guetgemann, they went to Sun City, Maricopa Co, AZ.. There Etta died in Oct 1984. Submitted by Sharon Bradshaw Hampton

Elmira was born 24 Dec 1864 in Wolf Creek, IL the d/o William H and Catherine (Clutts). They lived in Wolf Creek until 1898 when they moved their family to Herrin (then known as Buckhorn), where they openeda rooming house and established Bradshaw Insurance Agency. They had 8 children: Miles, Mayme, Clarence, Dolph, Dallas Carl, Pauline, Pansy, Elmer and Lynn. George died 13 May 1929 in Herrin and is buried at Herrin City Cem. Curtis married Jun 1974 to Louisa C Herrin the d/o Oliver and Julia A (Spiller). Curtis had his first practice in Crainville until 1881 before moving to Creal Springs and then in 1899 to Herrin. He married Sophia L Freeman the d/o George E. She was b 10 Aug 1842 in Cleveland, OH. The had 5 children: James C, M and 3 othres. She died in Carbondale. His second wife was Jennie Cander, d/o Newton. She was b 24 Nov 1846 in Lafayette, IN, They married 08 Nov 1882 at Galesburg. Their children are Elizabeth and Alice C. (1905)
