Cagle, Timothy--Minister

b 25 Dec 1826 in Robinson Co, TN. He came to Bainbridge as a baby. His father was Charles, who died near Little Rock, AR age 65. His mother was Polly Demumbe, who died age 85. Timothy married 25 Aug 1846 to Caroline Roberts, she was born 08 Aug 1832 in Bainbridge. During the Mexican War, Timothy was in Co B 1st Col Regiment. Their children were: William, Nancy, James, Mary W, Pleasant, Charles, Timothy, Martha, Moody, Edwin, Mardicai (d bef 1905), Gertie, Polly, Dora and Alfracrotis. (1905)

Campbell, Marion C--Speculator in tobacco

born 12 Jan 1834 in Wmson Co, IL. He was the s/o Cyrus and Hannah (Wiley). The father was born in Scotland and came to the US in 1798 with 2 brothers. He married in NC and in 1820 moved to Robertson Co, TN. The mother was born in NC. The family came to IL in 1824 and to Marion in 1845. One of Cyrus' other sons was James M Campbell. Marion married Hannah F Cunningham, she died in 1864 leaving one daughter, Annie C, 2 sons had died before 1864. In 1866 Marion married the sister of his first wife, Cyrene H Cunningham, they have one child, JohnA. His wives were sisters to Mrs John A Logan. Marion died in Greenville, MS on 12 Jul 1902. Cantor, M--Merchant

b 27 Jul 1848 in Prussia. He came to the US to Jackson Co, IL in 1859. Between 1859 and 1876 he traveled in western US, finally settleing in Marion. His father was Nathan, who died in 1882 in Germany. On 22 Jan 1878 M married Sarah Yesky of NY. Their children are: Bertha and Lillian (1905)

Carter, Laban--farmer

born 28 Aug 1822 in Stanley Co, NC the s/o Levi and Jane (Holt). The father was b 1791 in NC and moved to Henry Co, TN in 1823. He died in 1845. The mother was born in NC in 1791 and died in 1829 having 7 children. Laban married 02 Oct 1844 to Berrilia Jackson, born in 1829 Bedford Co, TN. She died in 1860 leaving chilad, mary A, James N and Levi M. Laban then married 05 Sep 1861 to Nancy Snodgrass the d/o William and Orpha (Smith). She was born in 1839 in Jonesboro, TN. Their children are: Barnett H, Minnie D, Thomas E and Maggie E. During the CW, Laban was in Co A 7th TN Inf. In 1863 the family came to Jackson Co, IL then moving to Wmson Co in 1864 to the Carterville area where he opened a post office in 1872. (1887)

born in Hardin Co, Ky on 07 Apr 1849. His parents were, Jeremiah (d1881) and Amanda Melvina (Williams)(d 1884). Charles came to Wmson Co in 1865. He married 27 Oct 1872 to Mattie Walker. She died 08 Mar 1890 leaving 8 children: Cora, Marian, Roy E, Evangeline, Ruth, Zelda, Zonna and one son that died as an infant. His second marriages was to Mrs Sarah Donihoo in 1894. She died in 1896. His third marriage was to Mrs Lizzie Powell in Aug 1898. Their children are: Ransom Powell, Libbie, Kate, Sherman Powell, Frank (1905)

Chadwell, Elizabeth A (Sheppard)

born 10 May 1825 in Sangamon Co, IL. Her father was John Sheppard, born 1789 in PA, and died 1860. Her mother was Sarah Clark was born in 1788 in Mdand died in 1875. Elizabeth married William Rufus Roberts in 1841. He died in 1845, leavinf child: John L and Sarah M. Elizabeth's second marriage was in 1849 to Charles Chadwell, who died in 1886. Their children were: William B, Elizabeth P and Alice. (1905)

Chamness, George B--East Side Hotel Owner

b 26 May 1831 in Wmson Co, IL the s/o Wiley B and Susan (Krantz). The father was born 1812 in Buncombe Co, NC. In 1818 he came to Franklin Co, IL, where he married in 1830. He died in 1882. The mother was born in Robinson Co, Tn and her parents died when she was 12. During the CW George was in Co H 9th Mounted IL Inf. He married Amanda Frey, born in 1831 Logan Co, KY. She died in 1861 Crab Orchard Twp having 6 children, 2 are John amd Jane. George married a second time to Martha J E Turnage, born 25 Oct 1840 in Calloway Co, KY. She was the d/o James and Elizabeth (Donihoo) one of 10 children. George and Martha's children are: George D, Laura, Ambrose, Frank and Sallie. (1887)

b 29 Sep 1825 in Stewart Co, TN, coming to Wmson Co in 1846. He married Harriet Norris 13 Jan 1845, she died 24 Sep 1846 having no children. 01 Mar 1846 he married again, (wife's name not given), their children are: JC, Draitor (d age 3), Mary, Samantha and Sylvester. His third marriage was to Ann Jones. Their children: EA, Nora (d infant), Albert B, Lebbie (d 1902), Cora and twin boys (d infants). His fourth marriage was the 22 Nov 1890 to Fanny Norris, who died 14 sep 1900. His final marriage was to Ruth Jones.. (1905)

born 20 May 1854 in Saline Co, IL. On 16 Oct 1875 he married Laura Ann Mitchell the d/o TS. Their children were: Claud S, Maud M and Sadie. Laura died 20 Dec 1871. WE's second marriage was to May A Musgrave in 1881, the d/o Hiram. They had one child: Grace. (1905)

Clayton, George W.--farmer and stock raiser

born in Robertson County Tennessee in 1839, the son of Thornton and Elizabeth (Babb) Clayton. The father, Scotch-Irish in origin, was born in North Carolina, and removed to Tennessee when a boy. He was twice married, his second wife being George's mother, who was born in Tennessee, and is still living, seventy-four years old, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The father, after a short time in Saline County, died in 1857. George, educated in common schools left home at twenty-five, and in 1866 married Sarah A. Abney who died in the same year, and in 1868 married a second time, to Harriet E., daughter of Carroll Kelley, of Williamson County, where she was born. Four of their five children are living, James Monroe, Arlina, Ora M., and Stella. He owns seventy-five acres nine miles north-west of Harrisburg, and has lived on his present farm since 1876. In 1862, he enlisted in Company C., Ninth Illinois MountedInfantry and served to the close. He was appointed postmaster of Hartford in 1866, and held it twelve years. Since November, 1885, he has been justice of peace. A whig, formerly casting his first vote for John Bell, he has since been a democrat. b 16 Oct 1835 in Cumberland Co, KY the s/o Elijah and Temperance Soberness (Wilburn). The father was born in 1795 in GA, marrying in 1831, KY. He came to Wmson Co, IL in 1846 and died 1856. The mother was born in 1808, KY, she married in 1860 after her first husbands death to Jesse W Seay. She died 1875. Edward was in Co B 6th IL Cav during the CW. He married Amanda C Donelson the d/o John and Prudence (Grover). Amanda was born 02 Feb 1836 in Davidson Co, TN. She had 3 children one of which was Sarah F. (1887)

born Jul 1866 4 miles south of Carterville. He married Laura E Cole on 16 May 1886. Their children are Ollie and Ethel. In 1897, he was constable. He remarried to Leona Kisner on 06 Jun 1900, their child is named Opal. (1905)

b 1840 in Wmson Co, IL the s/o Samuel and Cynthia (Pike). The father was born in PA the s/o John. He was a store owner in Bainbridge and died in 1865. His first wife was Anna Duncan. His second wife was Cynthia. Thomas married Mary L Denning the d/o Josiah and Eleanor in 1866. They have one child Lizzie. (1887)

born 31 Oct 1866 in Jackson Co. He married in 1891 to Manthers Cruse, who was born in Wmson Co. They moved to Marion in 1899. Their children were: Libbie, Ruby and Ray C. JB's father was Benjamin, who died in 1874. JB's mother was Catherine. Both parents have been married 3 times and had 26 children between them. (1905)

Cunningham, John Marion--Sherriff

born 1812 in Lincoln Co, TN and christened Francis. An Uncle got him to change his name to John.. His father was Robert, coming to IL before 1818 with slaves. His children were: Robert, Austin, Caroline and Clementine. Robert's parents are Josepha nd Mary (Simerson). John married in Petersburg, MO in 1837 to Elizabeth Hicks Fountain the d/o Joseph. The surname was DeLaFountaine, which is French. While in MO, John owned a store and slaves. In 1839 he sold out and moved to IL. They had one child born in MO. Two older slaves named Joe and Hannah lived with the family. In 1866 his wife died due to cholera after having 13 children, those living in 1905 were: Mary, Hannah, Hybert, Clementine, Cyrene, Samuel, John and Evaline. John's second marriage was to Mary Hopper in 1869. John was made Provo Marshall of the Utah Territory, where he died in Mar 1873. (1905)
