W.N. FERRELL, of this precinct, informs us that he will move to Mo. in a few weeks.
It may turn out that David DAVIS only got down from the fence to have his pants reinforced. He will not be happy in that crowd long.
Bennett STOTLAR, of Western, was among our visitors Monday. He reports Western as solid for the Union.
Married, at Pleasant Grove Ch. last Wednesday, the 10th inst., by Elder C.E. CLINE, Mr. C.H. MITCHELL to Miss Nancy E. CAPLINGER.
Married, by Rev. J.S. GULLEDGE on the 5th inst., Mr. Thos. JONES to Miss Anna BIRDWELL, near Frankfort, in Franklin County.
Elder CURFEES, after a pleasant visit among friends in and near Marion returned last Tuesday to school at Lexington, Ky.
Mr. Alex PEEBLES, late of Ky., (a relative of J.W. PEEBLES, our next States attorney), has taken up his abode in Marion.
John W. PEEBLES has about finished the census business and removed his office to the Goddard block.
Among the noted old land marks present at the old folks meeting last Thursday, was Mr. Samuel RUSSELL of Eight Mile. Mr. RUSSELL was born in Montgomery County, Tenn. Came to Illinois in 1818; was at the first election the State ever held, when Governor BOND was chosen governor. Mr. R. has lived to see the rise and progress of our beautiful state. Has witnessed its various changes, and is one of those who rejoice in our standing as a State and a Nation, and will at the next election as in the past, help to ratify the Republican nominations. Long may such grateful men live to enjoy the fruits on the land.
John W. PEEBLES and Ed MITCHELL attended the meeting of Herrin’s Prairie Garfield and Arthur Club last Saturday night. They bring a good report.
Two weeks go last Sunday a n little child of Mr. Joseph K-LLEY, near Sulpher Springs in this county was kicked a killed by a horse; while enroute or from the funeral the same animal that killed the child, ran away with the wagon, throwing Mr. and Mrs. ELLIOTT and two ladies (whose names we did not learn) out of the wagon seriously crippling them. Mrs. ELLIOTT had some of her ribs broken. Mr. ELLIOTT’s injuries was about his head. At last account they were slowly recovering.

LOCAL NEWS
Mr. C.J. NORMAN and family and C.M. EDWARDS and lady were called to Burnside last Saturday evening on account of the illness of one of Mrs. EDRINGTON’s children. They found the child better.
We will have a Sunday school convention in Eight Mile Township the first Sunday in September; also a basket dinner and wish all the Sunday school people to attend. The meeting will be at the Christian church near Sam RUSSELL’s. Sunday school friends we need your help in this township. Come one, come all! J.B. LEDBETTER Vice President of Eight Mile.
Prof. E.C. HILL and family arrived in Marion last Saturday morning after a few years stay in Minnesota and Iowa. Prof. HILL is (as has been announced) principal of the Marion public schools and will on next Monday week begin the fall term. It will be remembered that under this administration the schools progressed fine years ago, and now, after age and experience have added to his knowledge in the educational line, our people may feel assured that with his competent assistants and the hearty support of the directors and people the schools will come up to the higher standard where they should be.
Mr. John YOCUM of Carbondale spent Monday and Tuesday I s with his young friends in this city. John is a pleasant and special young gentleman, and has many friends in Marion.
Mr. and Mrs. J.F. CORDER, of Crab Orchard, paid us a visit Wednesday last. They are among our substantial supporters.
Mr. HOGUE and Thos. TEAGUE leave our city for Arkansas ere long. We wish them a happy journey and a speedy return.
