LOCAL NOTES.
--Last Friday Wm. DELOACH was arrested on a charge of bastardy, at the
instance of Mary A. GRIMES. The case was continued until Saturday, the 6th
inst., DELOACH giving bond of $1,000 for his appearance.
--The Jury term of County Court, Judge YOUNG presiding, convenes promptly at
10 o’clock next Monday morning. All who have business with or before the court
are requested to be on hand promptly at the opening of the Court, as all
business will be attended to promptly. The following is a list of jurors; John

SOCIETY AND PERSONAL NOTES.
--Mrs. General John A. LOGAN and sister, Miss Eva CUNNINGHAM, are visiting
friends and relatives in this city.
--Mrs. Jennie LUSK is spending a few days with friends and relatives in and
about Corinth.
--Mr. J.W. LANDRUM, a prominent citizen of this county, died at his residence
near Crainville, last Monday, July 1, after a brief illness.

LOCAL NOTES.
--The DELOACH-GRIMES bastardy case was compromised, he paying she $100.
--Married, on July 2, 1878, by Rev. Oliver COX, at the residence of the
bride’s father, J.H. STEWART, Mr. John S. STRIKE to Miss Jane STEWART, all of
Williamson county. The Monitor extends best wishes for the happiness and
prosperity of the young people.
--Dave BURTON and one WHITE, engaged in a setto with fists last Friday
morning. BURTON came out second best.
--A little shooting affray occurred at Crainville on the 4th between two men
named NORRIS and RAMSEY, in which the latter received three or four flesh
wounds, none dangerous.
SOCIETY AND PERSONAL NOTES.
--Dr. Henry MITCHELL, of Corinth, is quite sick, we were told.
--Mrs. F.M. WESTBROOK and daughter Daisy, of Evansville, Ind., are visiting
friends and relatives in Marion this week.
--Mr. Mardone MITCHELL, of Grayville accompanied by his son Willie, was
visiting his numerous friends and relatives in this county the latter part of
last week.
--Mr. J. Scott STEWART of Eureka, Kansas, a former Williamson county boy, is
visiting his old home in Northern precinct.

JEFFERSONVILLE JOTTINGS.
--Weslsy CHADOWIN has a very sick child.
--It is rumored that Perry STRADLEY is going to Belgium, as he can’t go to
Holland he wants to get as near as possible.
Miss Dora STADLEY of Du Quoin is visiting the home of her grand parents Rev.
J.A. WILLIAMS and family.
--Mrs. J.A. WILLIAMS has been absent in attendance at the death bed of her
mother Mrs. Tricy BOWLINS who died at the advanced age of 96 years. Mrs.
BOWLIN was one of the first pioneers of this portion of the state, settling
near the present site of old Du Quoin when her neighbors was the wild red men.
She was the mother of seventeen children eight of whom are still living and
rank among our best citizens. Mr. Matt BOWLIN of eight mile prairie being her
youngest child. One by one we loose our landmarks.
--The fishing party that left our town for a days seineing on Big Muddy came
near meeting with sad calamity. After dragging their seine awhile it became
entangled in some drift. Mr. Mort FEURER and Dr. FELTS swam in to detach it,
when they became entangled in the seine and were only saved from drowning by
the coolness and bravery of John BAIAR who rushed in and succeeded in dragging
them ashore. Mr. FEURER was almost gone out by rolling him and applying such
remedies as they has was resuscitated.

LOCAL MATTERS.
--Mr. Francis M. EUBANKS was absent last week visiting his sister in Shelby
county, this State.
--John M. CLINE was prostrated very suddenly Sunday, from sickness, but is up
and about at present.
--Miss BROWN, of Crainville, a sister of Gertrude BROWN, died Monday, and was
buried Tuesday at the Hurricane burying ground.
--A little girl, daughter of Wm. JACK, about two miles north west of this city
had her hand cut with a straw cutter, last Tuesday. Dr. BUNDY was called in
and dressed the wound. It is though amputation will follow.
--A little child of C.T. HOLLAND’s, died in this city last Monday morning.
--Mr. BISHOP has disposed of his mail contracts and returned to his farm, near
Mt. Pleasant, in Union county.
--C.J. KEASTER, one of our substantial citizens, died at the residence of W.H.
EDWARDS in this city last Friday night, and was buried Saturday at the Baptist
church cemetery five miles east of Marion. Rev. TOOTHAKER conducted the
funeral services. It will be remembered by the Monitor readers that the
deceased had an eye torn out recently, (an account of which appeared in
these
columns) from the effects of which he lost his life. Mr. KEASTER was well
known in this county and his death brings sorrow to a large number of
friends.
--C.M. EDWARDS has been on the sick list for several days.
--D.A. DAVIS, W.M. REID, N.G. REID and their families started yesterday to
White county, Ark., their future home.
JEFFERSONVILLE JOTTINGS.
--Mr. Barney APPLETON’s child is quite sick with fever.
--Mrs. T.C. WATKINS is down with a billious attack.
--Mrs. L.J. STRADLEY and children are visiting the family of her father Rev.
J.A. WILIAMS of prospect farm.
--Mr. John POWELL is confined to his bed with a sever attack of kidney
disease. His suffering is intense.
--Mr. J.J. SCOTT is spending a short time visiting Webb DUNCAN one of his old
college chums.

LOCAL NOTES.
--A.J. CARDEN brought suit against Wm. SCHAFFER, before Justice HOLLAND last
Saturday for seventy odd dollars. Judgment for plaintiff for $53.
--Mrs. Juliet WOOD, a widow was arrested last Saturday morning, charged with
the killing of Frank J. CHAPMAN. The trial was commenced before ‘Squire CRUM
Monday morning and continued until noon Tuesday, resulting in the release
of
Mrs. WOOD. On Monday evening Miss Carrie CORELIUS was placed under arrest, but
Tuesday evening she was released without being placed on trial. There was
quite a number of witnesses examined in Mrs. WOOD’s trial, but the evidence
was considered insufficient to hold her over. *Vienna Yeoman. Many of our
readers will remember Mrs. WOODS, who some two years ago was know as
the “cook” at the Goodall House in Marion.
--Tuesday last Rev. George MAY had a young man named RALLS arrested for
disturbing public worship at the X roads church last Sunday. Through some
legal informality, Squire HOLLAND dismissed the case.
SOCIETY AND PERSONAL NOTES.
--’Roe MITCHELL, of Corinth, is very sick.
--Charley STEIN and family, of Equality, Ill., are visiting friends and
relatives in Jeffersonville.
--Dr. Henry MITCHELL of Corinth is till confined to his room with sickness.
--Messrs. T.J. GOODALL and Geo. W. GODDARD returned from Hot Springs,
Arkansas, last week.
--Fes. HOLLAND is very low, and but slight hopes are entertained of his
recovery.
--Mr. Harris EUBANKS and wife of Marion, Ill., have been on a visit this week
to their relatives, the MORRIS’s. *Hardin Gazette.
--Charley PRICKETT has left Jeffersonville and returned to Carbondale. He
leaves a host of friends in this county.
--Mr. A. M. PACE, cashier of the Marion Bank, was called to Ashley Tuesday by
a telegram informing him of the death of his mother.

--Willie, infant son of Dr. BURGESS has been quite sick with a severe attack
of intermittent fever, but is slowly recovering.
--Dr. Wm. TITTSWORTH has been on the sick list for several days past.
