LOCAL MATTERS
--The fire fiend visited Marion, last Monday morning, making Jo BURNS homeless, and consuming one of Marion's oldest houses. The building stood near and south of the C. & S. depot. It once occupied the lot on which the brick building of F.M. GOODALL stands. It was used in the days of yore, as a store room for fighting whisky, where the muscle was frequently tried. The household goods of BURNS' was consumed in the flames. A liberal contribution of our citizens, partially restored the loss.
--A fishing party on their return home yesterday met with a misfortune which came near being fatal to James PULLEY, one of the party. Their team started on a run, upsetting the back, catching James on the underside and drug him two hundred yards before he could extricate himself from his unpleasant position, says our informant. At last accounts he was doing well.
LOCAL MATTERS--Miss Addie FELLOWS will close her school this week. Three weeks later the other departments of the Marion school will close. --Dr. S.H. BUNDY has been confined to his bed for several days, very ill.
LOCAL MATTERS--Mr. John STEPHENS and Miss - DAY were united in matrimony last Thursday. --Dr. BUNDY, we are pleased to learn, is improving and will soon be able to be out again.--Walter WARDER and lady arrived in this city last Friday. They have been on a bridal tour for several days, and as they are calculated to enjoy the luxuries of life, we feel safe in saying that their journey was one of solid comfort.
--Another Tucker STACY malee was indulged in last Monday morning. William made his mile in a few seconds and appeared on the public square, hat in hand, almost breathless appealing to the Sheriff, Constables, Attorneys et. al., for help! help!! saying that STACY had "beat the old woman nearly to death and shot his girl." The sheriff, accompanied by others, at once proceeded to the scene of action and captured the entire force and marched them to Esq. REYNOLD 's headquarters where they were examined and held in a bond to keep the peace. Such conduct as is reported in the Tucker STACY camp, falls far short of decency and good taste and is very annoying to the better class of our people. How long will such pests infest our community.
