LOCAL NOTES.
--Mr. Marion MAXEY, a highly respected citizen of this county, died very
suddenly last Sunday. He had slightly injured one of his feet a couple of days
before, and erysipelas set in resulting in his death in a few hours. .
--Last Saturday evening T. JOHNSON a “gentleman ob color, sah,” went home and
bounced his wife around quite lively for a few moments. She made complaint
before Squire HOLLAND Monday evening, and Thomas was put under bond of $50 to
keep the peace.
--Jim LAMASTER came to town Monday evening and got on a “high lonesome” and
was escorted to the calaboose and given a few hours sweat. He was turned out
at night and told to go and sin no more. He stood not upon the order of his
going, but gat him up and got, No fine.
--Monday was a day of excitement mishaps and hot weather: Charlie KERN was
sunstruck; two school boys got into a fuss and one cut the other slightly with
a knife; a team ran away down by the M.E. church; County commissioners Court
met, finished up their business, and went back to cutting wheat; a burglar was
chased all over town; a drunken man, the first seen in Marion for a month, was
put in the calaboose; Bill DOWELL killed a sheep; PACE and WASHBURN didn’t
