JEFFERSONVILLE JOTTINGS.
--The girls say that our friend Mr. LACEY is not a success as a
path finder.
--If any one writes up the subject of whiskers for your paper
please state
that George DUNCAN has got some to.
--We are informed that our old friend Ben WHARTON is confined at
home with
sickness, not having seen him on our streets for several days I
fear the rumor
is true.

passed a
splendid examination and now is ready to treat all diseases flesh
is heir to.
We are informed that he will locate in Frankfort, Ill.
--Mrs. M.J. CAGLE we are happy to state is now recovering from
her late severe

--Mr. John BROWN and lady of this vicinity gave the young folks a

--We were shown a letter this morning from R.C. F. CAGLE of Elk
Falls, Kansas,
in which he states that in the edge of Wilson county near where
he resides
rich miles of gold, silver, copper and lead have recently been
discovered.
This is no sensational report but a private letter to Mr. J.J.
CAGLE of our
place, a brother of the write. He states that they have seen the
leads and
secured these claims with the intention of going to work
immediately digging
for the golden treasures. As this late discovery is comparatively
at our very
door in comparison to California and Montanan, the matter can be
tested at a
small expense. Mr. CAGLE wrote a letter to Eli DARROW last week
giving him the
same report. Anyone who desires can see the letters for
themselves by calling
on either gentlemen.
--Died at 4 oclock a.m. March 12, 78, John C. BAIAR
aged near 50 years. Mr.
BAIAR is an old resident of this county and well known by
everybody as an
energetic shrewd business man prompt in all his business
transactions and the
friend of all. He entered the service in the 80 ILL. vol. as a
private, was
promoted to orderly sargent but refused any further promotion as
he left his
home and family for patriotism and pure love of country and not
for self
advancement or gain. He has been a sufferer for several years
from an injury
received in battle by the falling of a tree top cut off by a
cannon ball which
injured his spine and eventually resulted in his death.
CRAINVILLE CULLINGS.

--Thursday eve our town was enlivened by another wedding; MIss
Sallie RODMAN
saw fit to leave her fathers fireside to partake of the bed and
board of Mr.
James KELLY of Carterville. Who next?
CRAB ORCHARD.
--Perry PEEBLES says being a constable is nothing very great, but
that a boy
is something wonderful; mother and child doing well.
EIGHT MILE.
I have been a careful reader of the Monitor for upward of two
years
and until quite recently I never saw but one or two articles for
the Monitor
from this precinct. I propose to give the readers of your
valuable paper a
brief sketch of this portion of Gods moral vineyard known
as the Eight Mile
precinct. Your correspondent thinks this is one of the healthiest
portions of
the county; there has been but little sickness this winter and
not but one or
two deaths, not to my knowledge for nearly a year. Our country is
beautifully
located, a portion of the precinct is fine prairie and the
remainder fine wood
land and the soil is second to none in the country, and besides
we have some
of the most practical farmers in the county; perhaps some of the
readers of
the Monitor may exact proof of my assertion if so I will name a
few of the
most successful tillers of the soil: Messrs. John SNIDER, S.V.
PAINTER, John
Q. RUSSELL, S.W. RUSSELL, and a great many others who are well
acquainted with
agricultural industry.
We have two fine school houses and two church houses, so it will
be
seen that as for education and religious instruction we in Eight
Mile are not
lacking. Our school in district No. 6, taught this winter by Miss
Alice
PAINTER came to a close last week. Miss PAINTER is an
accomplished teacher
and has done a great and good work as a teacher with the school
she taught. We
have in district 6 over one hundred scholars, too many for one
teacher. It is
hoped that our school officers will look a little more to the
interest of our
schools in the future.
The Murphy move is progressing finely; nearly four fifths of the
citizens in this precinct have doned the blue ribbon. Farewell
King Alcohol.
CARTERVILLE CRUMBS.
--Tuesday evening Mr. James KELLY and Miss Sallie RODMAN were
joined in the
happy bonds of wedlock at the residence of the brides
father. Miss Sallie did
look so nice dressed in a light drab suit with all other
necessary fixtures.
James stood to her right taking everything as a matter of fact.
Miss Sallie
was assisted by Miss Kate KELLEY and James by R.H. HAMPTON. Uncle
Labon did
the tieing of the knot and did it up first class. He looked as
fresh as a
young man of twenty. Nothing gives him more pleasure than making
two souls
happy. At eight oclock the parties went to the Thompson
House where they
found every thing in readiness for a little hop and no time was
lost in
starting, Messrs. GODDARD, GOODALL, DUNAWAY and some five or six
other Marion
gentlemen whose names I did not learn were present; also Messrs.
George
CONGLIENHOUR, L.L. PRESKETT and Robert BRYDEN of Carbondale.
Everything passed
off pleasantly and may peace and prosperity crown all the young
couples
efforts.
HALL SCHOOL HOUSE.
--Mrs. Samuel TANNER is reported quite ill at his writing.
--Married the 10th inst., John F. TANNER to Miss Amanda SHELTON,
a long and
happy life to the young groom and fair bride.
--John H. PERRY of Marion was again in our vicinity last week.
There seems to
be an unusual attraction in our midst at some farmers house for
John which is
undefinable. There may be a girl mixed up in the affair, who
knows?
--Mrs. Eliza SHELTON and family James BEASLEY and family who over
a year ago
moved to Texas, returned last week convinced that there is no
place like home.
--Mr. Hugh HENSHAW has been confined to his room the past week
with pneumonia;
glad to say he is improving. William HENSHAW is at present lying
quite low
with pneumonia; also James HENSHAW, son of Mr. Carroll HENSHAW
has a mild
attack of pneumonia.
--We will give the readers of the Monitor an idea as to where
Hall School
House is. It is situated in the south east part of the county
three miles
north west of Stone Fort, on the Marion and Golconda road,
situated in the
beautiful part of the county surrounded by good farms and
enterprising
farmers.
STONE FORT.
--W.J. RIDGEWAY and Isaac KELLEY are studying medicine under J.P.
MURRAY M.D.
of this place. The boys are progressing finely, they contemplate

--Died at the residence of her husband Thomas FARTHING, two miles
east of
Stone Fort, Ill., Mrs. Nancy FARTHING at the age of about 20
years. Mrs.
FARTHING became a member of the Baptist church about the year
1874 in which
she has been a consistent member, until it pleased the great
dispenser of all
things to call her from labor on earth to her celestial home in
heaven where
she will dwell forever and ever. She was married to Thomas
FARTHING about the
year 1873 and was the mother of two daughters, one of whom is a
little infant
babe.

--Last Friday morning Mr. and Mrs. NICELY, accompanied by three
ladies, were
riding along the road some twelve miles southwest of Marion, in a
wagon, when
the horses became unmanageable and turned the wagon over,
breaking Mrs.
NICELYs collar bone and dislocating her right shoulder, and
otherwise
bruising her. Dr. SHEELEY, of Crab Orchard, was called to attend
to the
injured lady, and under his skillful treatment she is in a fair
way to
recover. Mrs. NICELY is a daughter of Esquire ANDERSON, of Union
Precinct. The
rest of the party escaped uninjured, but thoroughly scared.

--Elder BENSON has accepted a call from the Christian church at

--Last Tuesday morning we received a pleasant call from Dr. C.
Adams SHEELEY,
who has lately located at Crab Orchard for the practice of
medicine and
surgery. Dr. SHEEELY is a graduate of one of the best Medical
Institutes in
the country, has had considerable practice, especially in

served a hear as assistant Surgeon in the Nebraska States
Prison, and makes
Surgery a specialty. Socially the Dr. is a pleasant gentleman,
