LOCAL MATTERS--W.S. CALVERT's funeral will be preached at Mt. Zion next Sunday, by Rev. WELLS.--Sheriff NORRIS, accompanied by Dr. Z. BLAY and John OWENS, Jr., took six prisoners to Joliett and two to Pontiac, last Thursday.--Esq. J.H. REYNOLDS is confined to his room with fever, and has been for several days. it is hoped that ere long he will be able to resume business.

LOCAL MATTERS--Born, unto Mrs. and Mr. J.B. WILLEFORD, a boy, last Saturday evening. --W.P. TODD, of Crab Orchard, called at this office last Saturday and subscribed for two copies of the Monitor-one for himself, and the other for a brother in Kansas, Thanks.--On Thursday last a son of Geo. TATE, near the northeast corner of this county, was kicked to death by a mule. He was plowing, and slapped the mile with the lines, which caused it to strike the fatal blow. He was kicked about 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and lived until nine in the evening. His funeral will be preached by Miss SNIDER, the female evangelist, at Liberty church, next Sunday.-- We are also informed that a child about three years of age was killed by a mule kick, a few days ago, near the edge of the Williamson and Saline county line.

Some seem to think that it is wrong for a woman to preach-some think it going rather beyond her sphere-while others say let her preach. Oliver DAVIS and sons a prizing their tobacco, at their barn on the old homestead.Our friend B.P. PULLEY was thirty years of age yesterday, and received a birthday present from his wife.
