LOCAL MATTERS--Rev. Dallas BIGGS has returned from a trip through Missouri and Iowa.--Dr. H.V. FERRELL is at St. Louis attending Medical lectures.--Dr. Geo. L. OWEN returned form a tour through the eastern states, last Monday. He visited all the prominent eastern cities, including Philadelphia and the centennial show.

LOCAL MATTERS--SCHURLOCK was thrown from a mule during the Democratic torchlight procession last Saturday night having his shoulder blade broken.--Dr. Wm. J. CARTER will locate in this city next week, and will attend all calls in his line day or night. The Dr. has the reputation of an energetic and successful Physician and no doubt his services will appreciated by the citizens of Marion and the surrounding county. Try him and see.

OBITUARY.--Rev. James SHAW departed this life at his residence in Attila Williamson county Ills. Nov. 11th 1876. Aged sixty-four years ten months and seventeen days. Father SHAW was born in Wilson county Tennessee Dec. 25th 1811. Embraced religion Sept. 23, 1825 and united with the Methodist church in which he lived a true and consistent member respected and beloved by all who knew him. He was appointed class leader in the church to which he belonged and continued in that capacity for several years, was then licensed to preach and continued in the ministry until his death, instructing his friends in the way of holiness, until it pleased the Great ruler of the universe to call him home to reap the reward of the finally faithful-he leaves a companion and eight children and a host of friends to mourn his loss, may the given of all good give them Christian grace and fortitude to bear this dispensation of the divine will and live prepared to meet the departed one in the realms of eternal bliss where there will be no more death, no more sickness or parting of friends. The funeral of Father SHAW will be attended to on the 25th day of Dec. 1876, at Pleasant Grove church, 8 miles east of Marion, Williamson Co., Ills. Attila Ills., Nov. 17th, 1876

LOCAL MATTERS--The BRIGGS bros. have sold their stock of tin and hardware and are moving to Effingham county. --Married, miss Lida CHADWELL late of Corinth Ills., to Mr. Oliver HINCHMAN of Greenwood Co., Kansas, by Esquire J. Scott STEWART, at the residence of Geo. L. MITCHELL in Greenwood county Kansas.

LOCAL MATTERS.--William HENDRICKSON will be deputy Sheriff. --Mr. N.B. CALVERT is confined to his bed with pneumonia. --The scarlet fever is raging at Crab Orchard. James T. CUNNINGHAM lost a little child last week, and an other member of his family has the dreadful disease. --Dr. Wm. J. CARTER will not locate in Marion. Having made other arrangements, he will go to Stone Fort. We trust his new field will be to him a pleasant and profitable abiding place. --W.A.C. MCCOY is visiting friends and relatives in this county. Twenty-six years ago Mr. MCCOY accompanied with Col. John WHITE and ----WILEY left Marion for California. The two latter long since returned but the former, save one short visit in 1863 has been absent from this country. He has traveled considerable territory, including South American, and the Western territories of the United States. --Mr. Samuel DUNAWAY, Sr., died at his residence in this city last Tuesday evening. The deceased was one of our oldest citizens, having been in the mercantile business for several years. His life as a citizen was one of honor and his business efforts were crowned with success.--Mrs. WICKS, wife of William WICKS died last week.--James CLARIDA died at his residence, south east of this place, last Monday week. Mr. CLARIDA was a good man and his death brings sorrow to a large number of friends.
