Stotlar-Herrin Cemetery

This is a pioneer cemetery in Herrin were most of the earliest settlers are buried. Although it is well maintained, the older stones are in poor shape. Many of the older stones have broken and where place flat on the ground in concrete. While this keeps the stone in place with the grave, it causes the stone to be weathered more so most of these markers are unreadable.

I visited the cemetery 27 May 1999

Under a cedar tree there are 8 white marble stones, 6 of these have nothing on them and appear to me to have been footstones. 2 have writing but are broken and unreadable. There is one sandstone marker in the Herrin section

Broken sandstone under the tree, M------- of William B Sanders 47y -- 22d, dates are gone.

Believed to be buried here but no stones found are Glatha Aterberry; Harriet and WL Henderson; Alfred J, Charles O and Narcissa Herrin; William J Pope and Isaac Southerland.
