Seniors
Senior History In September, 1924, eleven new students entered Lowpoint Township High School. they were: Ruth Crawford, William Drennen, Pearl Gieseking, Roy Hahn, Phoebe Hofstatter, Harold Kief, Eileen Lancaster, Elizabeth Mundell, Elam Neuhauser, Ray Schertz, and Hazel Turley. After an interval spent in getting used to the new surroundings, a Class meeting was held and Eileen Lancaster was elected president. William Drennen left school about the middle of the year. At the beginning of our second year, we had nine of our original class. Ruth Crawford having left at the end of the first year; however, we had two new members, Goldie Braun who came here from Washburn High School and Russell Kaufman from India where his father is a missionary. Elam Neuhauser moved away soon after the beginning of school. This year the school gave an operatta entitled, "El Bandido" in which two of our members, Hazel Turley and Russell Kaufman took principal parts and the rest, parts in the chorus. In the Preliminaries for the Country Literary Meet, four Sophomores entered in declamation. First place was won by one of them, Eileen Lancaster, who represented our school in the county. In our Junior year, we were nine. Russell Kaufman had left at the end of the preceding year. At our first Class meeting, Hazel Turley was elected president; Eileen Lancaster; vice-president, and Pearl Gieseking, secretary-treasurer. On the 29th of October, we gave a Hallowe'en party for the school. About the middle of the year, we decided to give a Junior play to pay the expenses of the first Junior-Senior banquet in this school. The play, "June Time" had a cast of seven all of whom were Juniors. At the elimination contest this year, three Junior girls entered in declamation - it was won by Pearl Gieseking who also took second in vocal. And now, in our last year, we have a class of ten, the tenth being Myrtle Moulton who came here from Minonk High School. It is the largest class ever graduated from four years in this school. Hazel Turley was re-elected president. In October we gave a Hallowe'en masquerade for the community. Later the Class gave moving pictures every Monday night for six weeks. They were furnished by the Wabash Lyceum Bureau of Wabash, Indiana. For our Senior play we chose "The Ghost Bird" - a mystery. It will be given about the middle of May. Three Senior girls entered in girl's vocal in the preliminaries for the County Meet. First and second places were won by two of them, Eileen Lancaster and Goldie Braun. Eileen Lancaster won first in declaration in which two Senior girls entered. |
