Jacob Nafsinger

Jacob Nafsinger, better known as 'Grandpa Nafsinger', died at the residence of his son-in-law, Peter Roth, Monday, in the 90th year of his age. Mrs. Peter Roth and Mrs. John Baughman, Sr. of Panola; Mrs. Engel and Mrs. Gingerich, of Metamora, and Peter Nafsinger, of Delavan, are the surviving children. Father Nafsinger was highly respected by all his acquaintances, and was among the early settlers of this county. Thus one by one, but in rapid succession, the pioneers of old Woodford are entering into rest. The funeral occurred Thursday and the remains were interred in the Baughman cemetery.

Pearl E. Nevius

Kappa - Pearl E. Nevius, 71, died at his home at 2:15 a.m. Thursday. Death was due to a heart attack. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Ficken memorial home in El Paso. Burial will be in Hudson cemetery. He was born in Linn county, Kansas, Feb. 12, 1870, son of George and Augusta Nevius. He married Clara Belle Farrell Feb. 8, 1893. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Jesse and Ernest, both of Kappa; three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Sarah Phillips, Prescott, Kan; Mrs. Millie Farrell, Lexington; Mrs. May Coleman, Horton, Mo.; Charles Nevius, Hume, Mo., and Funston Nevius, Horton, Mo. Also surviving are three grandchildren.

Gladys Noffsinger

El Paso - Miss Gladys Noffsinger, 46, died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's hospital in Bloomington after an extended illness from throat ailment. She had been in the hospital two weeks. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Brethren, two miles east of Roanoke, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. E. Small. Burial will be in Roanoke cemetery. She was born Nov. 12, 1895, daughter of Rufus and Elizabeth Ann Noffsinger. Her parents and a sister preceded her in death. Survivors are the following brothers and sisters: Guy, Roanoke; Mrs. Sadie Armstrong and Mrs. Hazel Armstrong, both of Secor; Mrs. Cora Beachey, El Paso; Mrs. Belle Eberhardt, Pasadena, Calif.; Miss Elsie and Miss Pearl at home. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren.

William Penn Newell
William Penn Newell the second of twelve children born to George and Abagail Newell. He was born in Woodford County, Illinois and departed this life at his home in Washburn. 
With the exception of eight years of his early manhood in Nebraska, Mo., Mr. Newell's life was spent in this vicinity. He was united to Miss May B. Fisher on March 31, 1898 and to this union were born five children. Surviving besides his wife are Audra Burke of Champaign, Leland of Cleveland, Ohio, Anita Cordes of Decatur, and Willard H. at home; also four grandchildren, Nancy and Julie Newell of Cleveland, Ohio, Maxine and Richard Cordes of Decatur; two sisters, Ada King of Sioux, Iowa an Ella Likes of Lincoln, Nebraska; three brothers James of Florence, Illinois, C.E. of Omaha, Nebraska and John L. of Lyons, Nebraska and lots of relatives and friends. One son Owen Stanley, and one grandson, James L. Burke preceded him in death.

The funeral of Anna F. Nauman, 82, of rural Metamora, was at 10 a.m. Monday at St Mary of Lourdes Church, rural Metamora, the Rev Robert Weakley officiating.
Mrs Nauman, a homemaker, died Wednesday at Pekin Hospital, Pekin.  Mrs Nauman was born April 21, 1911, in Worth Township, Woodford County, a daughter of Bernard and Anna Weber Krumholz.  She married Lawrence P. Nauman Jan. 32, 1930, at rural Metamora.  He died May 30, 1993.  Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Herron, Glasford; one son, Bernard Nauman, Toluca; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Noel and Josephine Grebner, both of Metamora; and two brothers, Edward Krumholz, Missouri, and Joseph Krumholz, Metamora; and two nieces, Alda Kleen and Teresa Harms, both of Minonk.  Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.  Mrs Nauman was a member of St Mary of Lourdes Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of the church.

Mrs. William Norton

FORMER MINONK RESIDENT DIES IN LA SALLE HOSPITAL

Miss Margaret Norton of Minonk, was called to La Salle Sunday because of the death in a hospital there early that morning on September 12, 1926  of her father, William Norton, who was sick but a few hours.  The family resided in Minonk for a number of years, Mr. Norton being employed as hoisting engineer at the coal mine.  He was 56 years old.  He was born in Lancashire, England, and came to this country 35 years ago.  His wife and five children survive.  Funeral services were held from the residence in La Salle Tuesday afternoon...contributed by Jane Foster

Carlene Naffziger
DEER CREEK - Carlene Louise (Wagner) Naffziger, 96, of Maple Lawn in Eureka, formerly of Deer Creek, passed away at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at Maple Lawn. 
She was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Washington to Raymond Wagner and Catherine Schabinger.  She attended school in Washington, Ill., and worked as a nanny for two families in Peoria before marrying W. Harry Naffziger on Feb. 22, 1936, in Washington. The couple moved to Iowa in 1951. Harry passed away on Dec. 23, 2005.  Surviving are one daughter, Judith Lann of Valley Center, Kan.; and one son, David (Patricia) Naffziger of Chesterfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Sandra, Shelly, Steven, Jeffrey and Christian; and seven great-grandchildren. Carlene has a surviving sister, Elizabeth Holtzman.  She was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Wagner; a son-in-law, Richard Lann; and a great-granddaughter, Melissa Pierce.  Carlene was a loving and supporting wife, mother and companion.  She kept the books for the family farms.  While living in Iowa from 1951 until 1981, Carlene was a 4-H leader and chairman of the LuVerne Library Board for 20 years. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school and helped with the church youth group.  Her many quilts are a living gift to her family. Maintaining a large garden, canning and cooking for her family were special pleasures.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Carlene enjoyed playing games.  Calvary Mennonite Church in Washington was her house of worship when living in Illinois.  Visitation for Carlene will be on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Graveside services will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Glendale Cemetery in Washington, with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Memorial Hall at Maple Lawn Care Center in Eureka, with Pastor Doug Hicks and Pastor Ken Sistrunk officiating.   Memorials may be made to either Maple Lawn or Calvary Mennonite Church.

Ethel M. Noll
Metamora - Ethel M. Noll, 92, of Metamora, IL., passed away at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, at Snyder Village in Metamora. 
She was born May 8, 1919, in Metamora to John & Kathryn (Obery) Seckler.  She married Virgil L. Noll on June 30, 1937, in Metamora.  He pased away April 10, 1997.  Surviving are her children, Janet Noll and Judith Hartman, both of Peoria, John "Jack" Noll of Washington, Steven (Shirley) Noll of East Peoria and Larry (Linda) Noll of Metamora.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Chad, Matthew, Aaron, Jason, Ben, Brandon and Austin Noll, Kristan Tormanen and Rachel Davis.  She has 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, with one expected in March.  Also surviving are sister-in-law Vida (Gilbert) Schierer of Metamora, many nieces and nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Diane; one granddaughter; one great-grandedaughter; two sister;, two brothers; two brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law.  Ethel was a hairdresser, owning Ethel's Beauty Nook in Metamora for 61 years.  She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora and its Altar and Rosary Society, and a 50-year member of American Legion Auxiliary.  Ethel was a great mom and loved to cook and bake pies.  She loved to quilt; she made more than 50 quilts by hand for family, church and Crittenton Centers.  She will be missed.  A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Don Roszkowski officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel.  Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Mary's School and St. Jude Midwest Affiliate...contributed by A Friend of Genealogy
