MARTHA A. ADDIS, 67, of Indianapolis, formerly of Albion, died
Wednesday, July 16, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Mae
Shambaugh Bright. Surviving are one son, Jack B. (Eleanor) Pence of
Indianapolis; one daughter, Gail Pence; one grandchild; one brother;
and two sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy
Addis, and one brother. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Brazzell Funeral
Home, Albion, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial at
Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.

He was born Oct. 28, 1957, in Laport. Surviving are a son, Devon;

GALEN M. BABB, 69, of Fort Wayne died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at home.
He was born in Fort Wayne and retired from Forest City Management in
Gary, in 1998. He graduated from Central High School and attended St.
Francis University. He was a Korean War Veteran. Surviving are his
three daughters, Cynthia Babb Martin and Camille A. Douglas of Fort

LEAH "MAXINE" BAILEY, 88, of Brookville, formerly of Trotwood, Ohio,
died Monday, July 14, 2003. She was a Charter member of Basore Road
Grace Brethren Church, retired from downtown Rike's after 31 years of
service, and the Registration office at Sinclair Community College. She
was a graduate of North Side High School in Fort Wayne. She is survived
by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Bonnie Bailey of
Englewood (Michael is a retired teacher from the Trotwood Madison
School District), Rene' and Tanna Bailey of New Port, Richie, Fla.;
sister, Ardilla Winteregg of Trotwood; grandchildren and their spouses,
Michael and Meg Bailey, Patrick and Teri Bailey, Mishael Castro,
Letitia and Rodney Fugate, Giles Bailey, Shawn Bailey; and six
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44
years, Guy W. Bailey in 1982, and a granddaughter, Rachelle Lynn Bailey
in 1989. Funeral service is 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Bashore Road Grace
Brethren Church, 5675 Basore Road, Dayton, with Pastors Brian White and
Russell Ward presiding. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and

Mrs. Anna K. Bell, 83, formerly of 5708 New Haven Ave., owner-operator
of Bell's Skating Rink on U.S. 30 By-pass, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday in
the St. Anne Home, where she had resided two years.
Mrs. Bell and her husband, Joseph Bell, operated the rink until his
death in 1961.
Born in Chicago, she resided in Allen County most of her life and
was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, New Haven, and its
RosarySociety.
Surviving are four nieces, Mrs. Ida Marie Becker, Mrs. Rose Marie
Dunlap, and Mrs. Irene Lenerick, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Loretta
Knackstedt, Kenai, Alaska, and two nephews, Joseph Rager, Fort Wayne,
and Hery Rager, Fontana, Calif.

MARY WEAVER BILLINGS, 88, of Cumming, Ga., died Tuesday, July 15, 2003,
in Fort Wayne. "Loving mother and grandmother," she was the widow of
Dr. Thomas A. Weaver Jr. and Robert "Josh" Billings. Born Sept. 6,
1914, in Lockport, N.Y., she was the daughter of Robert T. and Jennie
Holgate Furbish. She grew up there, became a Registered Nurse and
married Dr. Weaver in 1939. After World War II, the Weaver's settled in
Dayton, Ohio, where they lived until Dr. Weaver's retirement in 1977.
She spent each summer with her family at their cottage on Lake George,
Mich., where she and Dr. Weaver were active in the Inland Cat Class
Sailing Association for many years. After retirement, the Weavers moved
to St. Petersburg, Fla., but still spent every summer at Lake George.
Mrs. Billings is survived by her six children, Charles E. Weaver of
Cumming, Ga., Thomas L. Weaver of Gig Harbor, Wash., Susan J. Campbell
of Fort Wayne, Molly E. Powell of Fort Wayne and James D. Weaver of
Cumming, Ga. A son, Jeffrey A. Weaver of St. Petersburg, Fla.,
predeceased her. Nine grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children also
survive. A memorial mass will be held Sept. 13, 2003, at Blessed
Trinity Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. Interment at Memorial
Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg. Preferred memorials to Heartland
Hospice, Turnstone Center for Disabled Children & Adults or St.

Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana. Born May 17, 2003, in Avilla, he
graduated from Avilla High School and was an Army World War II veteran.
He was employed by NIPSCO for 34 years, retiring in 1981, and was a
member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife of 56
years, Virginia Bradley of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Bobay of
Fort Wayne; and a son, Alan Dean Bradley of New Haven; six
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by three brothers and three sisters. Service is 10 a.m. Thursday at St.

beauty shop in her home at the same time. She was a lifetime member of
VFW and Elex and member of Women of the Moose, American Legion
Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, GE
Quarter Century Club, Punta Gorda Elks and South Wayne Baptist Church.
Survivors include son, Mark (Carol) Johnson of Davenport, Iowa;

JAMES A. CHASE, 67, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Bluffton Regional
Medical Center. Born in Angola, he was a Radio and Television Engineer
and former Fire Chief of Angola for several years, in the 1970's. He
was a U.S. Army Veteran, Ham Radio operator "K9YXR", helped build local
TV Channel 21, and many others, did tech work for WOWO & ESPN Radio
and had various types and operated model trains. "Jimmy was a man with
a great sense of humor and was a good storyteller." Survivors include

granddaughter, Roiann Campos; and two stepsons, Joseph W. Cechvala of

DWIGHT H. DONALDSON, 64, of Angola, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in
Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 7, 1938, in Newark, N.J., he was President of
D&L Communications of Fort Wayne for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He
was a Tri-State University graduate and U.S. Army veteran. He was a
member of Angola Masonic Lodge 236, Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne
- Mizpah Shrine Temple, and was Demolay Dad at Angola for several
years. Surviving are his wife, Marilu (Knudsen) Donaldson of Angola; a
daughter, Cheryl Donaldson-Pham of Ringwood, N.J.; a brother, Kenneth
Donaldson Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Marcia Donaldson of
Hollis, N.H.; and one granddaughter, Annaliese Donaldson-Pham. He was

GLADYS EDMUNDS, 92, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Fort Wayne, died
June 7, 2003. Born June 28, 1910, in Whitley County, she was the
daughter of John and Mary Shoda. She was a retired Registered Nurse and
graduated from the Methodist Episcopal Hospital School for Nurses in
Fort Wayne in 1931. She worked in several hospitals in Fort Wayne and
Columbia City. She married Harry W. Edmunds, March 5, 1944, in Fort
Wayne. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son. She
is survived by her sons, John M. Edmunds of Las Vegas, Harry W. Edmunds
Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandsons, Douglas and Jeffrey
Edmunds of Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to a

William N. Gaskill, aged seventy-five years, died Wednesday morning at
6:30 o'clock at the family residence, 1629 Franklin avenue, after a
lingering illness of dropsy. Heart failture was the immediate cause of
death.
The funeral will be held from the residence Friday afternoon at 2
o'clock with interment at Lindenwood cemetery.
Mr. Gaskill was born in New Jersey December 4. 1831, and while still a
small boy removed with his parents to Whitley county. At the age of
twenty years he came to Fort. Wayne, residing, here during the
remainder of his lifetime. He served in the 142nd Indiana Volunteer
Infantry.
He was an active member of Sion S Bass post, G. A. R., and of the Odd
Fellows, local lodge No. 14. left surviving are his "aged wife,
Susannah ten children - Mrs. Prudence Wiesbecker, Mrs.
Jennie Valroff and Mrs. Lottie Smith, of this city; Harrison, Ira,
Burvillus, Millard, Malcolm and Myer, of this city, and Charles, of
Pasadena, Cal.—also three sisters and two brothers.
The Woman's Relief corps of Sion S. Bass post will hold a flag service
at the residence at 1.30 o'clock preceding the funeral.

Renaissance Village Nursing Home. Born May 2, 1924, in East Chicago,
Ind., he was Vice president of Indiana Bank & Trust from 1968 to
1980, owner of Hart Travel in Angola for 12 years, from 1980 to 1992,
and lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for three years, as an
administrative assistant to the medical director of Aramco, from 1956
to 1959. He was a graduate of Morgan Park Military Academy, Chicago,
and attended the University of Washington, D.C., where he obtained an
AS in Business and Economics. He was an Army veteran of World War II,
honorably discharged in 1947. He was past president of the Association
of Bank Travel Bureau and member of the Association of Retail Travel
Agents. Other memberships include: VFW Lincoln Post of Fort Wayne, Elks
Lodge of Angola, the Gary, Ind. Chamber of Commerce and Town Board
member in Clearlake. Surviving are his wife, Norma Jean Hart of Fort
Wayne; children, Jay Robert Hart and companion, Laurie Freed of
Fremont, and Chuck Hart and wife, Dena, of Fort Wayne; four

DONALD F. HINES, 76, died Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2003, at the
Americare of Portland, following an illness of several months. He was
the former superintendent of the Jay County Retirement Center for 25
years. He worked as a barber in Berne for six years, and at the Home
Dairy ice cream department in Berne for several years. Don attended the
Bellfountain United Methodist Church and was a member of the Geneva
Masonic Lodge. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America program
and was able to take his group to the New York World's Fair. He was
also manager of Miller's Dairy Drive-in at Fort Recovery, Ohio, from
1973 to 1975. Donald Fredrick Hines was born Jan. 14, 1927, the son of
Clyde and Pauline (Mott) Hines. He graduated from Portland High School
in 1947, and from the Fort Wayne Barber College. He was a U.S. Army
veteran and served his country in the Korean War. Surviving are his
wife, Norma Smith Hines, who he married, Dec. 13, 1969. Also surviving
are his daughter, Vicki Jo (Hines) Luebke (Gary) of Fort Wayne; his
son, Bradley Scott Hines (Margaret) of Aubrey, Texas; his stepdaughter,
Cynthia Ware (Michael) of Orchard Park, N.Y.; his stepson, Frank
Missicano of Fort Wayne; his sisters, Suzy Saterlee (Jerry) of Chicago
suburb and Kay Weesner (Gerald) of Grabill; three grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, with viewing

of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne. Born in Boswell, she was a
Churubusco area resident since 1928. She was formerly employed at Sears
Roebuck and Company in Fort Wayne, and retired from Whitley Products in
South Whitley. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sewing, movies and

information. JACOB F. KELL, 99, of Huntertown, died Friday, July 11,
2003, at Heritage Park Nursing Home in Fort Wayne. Born in Perry
Township, Mr. Kell spent his entire lifetime on the same family farm in
rural Allen County. He was engaged in farming as a young man and
co-founded Kell Well Drilling in 1944. The firm later became known as
Kell Drilling, Inc., (Kell & Kell), and he operated the business
along with his son for many years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of
Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto, Huntertown Lodge 689 F&AM, and
the Indiana and National Ground Water Associations. Surviving are his
son, J. Frederick (Eula) Kell of Huntertown; his daughter, Ann

was a graduate of Defiance High School with the class of 1941 and the
Toledo Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1944. She was
united in marriage, Nov. 28, 1946, to John Kaduk. She was a member of
St. John's Lutheran Church, Hicksville. She was a member of WELCA,
American Legion Auxiliary, and the Community Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary. She was also active with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and Meals
on Wheels. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Defiance Hospital
Community Memorial Hospital, Hicksville, and as a private nurse.
Dorothy is survived by her husband; three daughters, Barbara Decker of
Troy, Ohio, Joan (Ken) Gumbert of Fort Wayne, and Patricia Crunkilton
of Defiance; two sons, David Kaduk of Hicksville and Steven Kaduk of
Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and a sister,
Helen Brewer of Nampa, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents

spouses." She married Harold D. Learned, June 10, 1984, and he

prominent Churubusco businessman, and along with his father, Orlo E.

Hatchery, Mc-Coy's Feeds, Inc., and McCoy Lumber Co. He also owned and
operated McCoy Realty in Churubusco, for several years. He was a member
of Churubsuco United Methodist Church and a past president of
Churubusco Rotary Club, Churubusco Chamber of Commerce, Fort Wayne Air
Stream Travel Club, and former chief of Churubusco Volunteer Fire
Department. He was a former member of Smith Township Advisory Board,
and served as director and stockholder of the former Churubusco State
Bank. His wife, Sylvelda (Egolf) McCoy, died in 1993. Surviving are his
son, Jerry (Beverly) McCoy of Winona Lake; his daughter, Coreen (Fred)
Gilbert of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Christopher (Shannon) McCoy of

MILLS, Ben Davis
BEN DAVIS MILLS, 88, of Sea Island, Ga., died peacefully Wednesday,
July 9, 2003, at his home. A one-eighth Cherokee Indian, he was born
and raised in Stillwater, Okla. He was educated at Oklahoma State
University, George Washington University, and Southeastern University
Law School, from which he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws Degree.
He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. During World War II, he
joined the U.S. Air Force, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at
Harvard Business School, and served in England and France in the Air
Forces Logistical Command as a Major and was awarded the Bronze Star.
After his discharge, he was one of four who recruited six others to
join them. They were hired by Henry Ford II, and soon became known as
the "Whiz Kids" due to their success in reviving the Ford Motor
Company. Mr. Mills was involved in various production divisions of the
company and in 1955, was elected Vice-President of the Ford Motor Co.
and appointed General Manager of the Lincoln Division. When the Lincoln
and Mercury Divisions were consolidated in 1957, Mr. Millls became
General Manager of both divisions. In 1964, he was appointed
Vice-President-Supply, Worldwide, for Ford Motor Co., a position he
held until his retirement at the end of 1971. At that time he and his
wife, Helen, moved to Sea Island. Prior to that move, Mr. Mills had
been very involved in various civic and cultural affairs in the Detroit
area and received many awards and honors during his lifetime. He became
active in similar activities in the Brunswick area. He was instrumental
in getting Hospice of the Golden Isles started, was on various
committees at Coastal Georgia College, and was a President of the Sea
Island Property Owners Association. He was an avid golfer, an excellent
fly fisherman, and enjoyed traveling. At 60, he took up flying and
piloted his own aircraft, the Kathee K. He was a member of the Sea
Island Club and Ocean Forest Golf Club, and a Communicant of Christ
Church Frederica. Mr. Mills is survived by his devoted companion of 17
years, Ruth Stewart of Sea Island; two sons, Ben D. Mills Jr. and
Robert E. Mills; a daughter-in-law, Kathee Mills; a grandson, Ben III;
a granddaughter, Malia; and a sister, Virginia Rackley. Memorial
service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church Frederica, with the Rev.
Douglas Reneger officiating. Preferred memorials are to the Canterbury

Huntertown United Methodist Church. He loved nature and fishing and
collected John Deere Tractors. Surviving are his wife, Roxanna E.; his

Sean M. (Jennifer) of Auburn; one daughter, Jody (Jeffrey) Cook of
Auburn; one brother, Ronnie D. Nofzinger of Fort Wayne; two sisters,

five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in

RICHARD "DICK" F. WOODWARD, 86, of Zanesville, died Friday, July 11,
2003 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Mich. Mr. Woodward was
a life resident of Zanesville and Markle areas. He was employed at
General Electric in Fort Wayne for 27 years, retiring in 1979. Mr.
Wood-ward was a lifetime member of the Markle Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Mabelle Woodward; two daughters, Marilyn
Spitler of Lindale, Texas, and Mrs. David (Jane) Carroll of Auburn; a
son, Pastor Fred Woodward of Fort Wayne; three brothers, John and

EVERETT P. MCKEEMAN JR., 52, of Fort Wayne, died Monday, July 14, 2003,
at Lutheran Hospital. He was born May 19, 1951, in Fort Wayne. "He
devoted his entire life to bringing happiness to others, making
whatever sacrifices necessary." He served 11 years in the Army,
fighting in Vietnam for which he received the Army Commendational Medal
for saving lives. Everett continued serving the country for 22 years
with the United States Postal Service. He was also a member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Debra; three sons,
Everett III and Michael of Indianapolis, and Aaron of Fort Wayne; his
father, Everett; a sister, Linda; a brother, Michael; a granddaughter,
Lily Jane; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by

Healthcare. Born Sept. 20, 1910, in Fort Wayne, he was Vice President
of Louis Rastetter & Sons Co., retiring in 1975. He was a member of
Trinity English Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council.
He also served on the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Chamber of
Commerce, the United Chest Council of Allen County and the Rotary Club
of Fort Wayne. He was President of the Rotary Club in 1945, and
District Governor of Rotary International in 1950. He was Past
president and Life Boardmember of the Anthony Wayne Area Council, Boy
Scouts of America, and a member of the National Council and National
Camping Committee, and Vice Chairman Executive Committee Region Seven
Explorer Canoe Base. Surviving are a son, Louis C. Rastetter of
Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Harriette L. Headford of Fort Wayne and
Diana S. Nichter of Rome City; seven grandchildren; 12
great-grand-chil-dren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Harriette Landes Rastetter,

in 1928. Mrs. Snyder retired in 1971 from the Administrative Office at
Fort Wayne Community Schools and had formerly worked at Wolf &
Dessauer. A member of Trinity English Lutheran Church, she was active
in Dorcas Circle and Elizabeth South Circle, and was also a member of
The Fort Wayne Women's Club. Survivors include her husband of 73 years,
Herbert C. Snyder; sons, Herbert C. Snyder, Jr. and Bruce R. Snyder,
both of Fort Wayne; nephew, John Burres of Hamilton, Mont.; eight
grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be

WOOD-ABELSON, Sharen
SHAREN (SHAWGO) WOOD-ABELSON, 54, of Richmond, died Monday, July 7,
2003. Born Sept. 5, 1948, in Pekin, Ill., Mrs. Wood-Abelson was a
former Fort Wayne resident and a 1966 graduate of North Side High
School. She was a self-employ-ed social worker in Richmond. She held
previous positions at Wernle Children's Home and Dunn Mental Health
Center in Richmond and Pleasant Run, Indianapolis. She also worked as
field study director for Earlham College's Human Development and Social
Relations program, and was assistant director for the school's summer
conferences. In the 1980s she was a kindergarten teacher at The
Children's School in Richmond. Ms. Wood-Abelson was a pianist and a
former member of the Richmond Symphony Chorus. "She was a beloved
mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend." Survivors include her sons,
Christopher Wood, Rockford, Ill., and Graham Wood, Richmond; parents,
Elmer and Phyllis Shawgo, Madison; brother, Ron Shawgo, sister-in-law,
Frederika Shawgo, and nieces, Amanda and Kaitlin Shawgo, all of Fort
Wayne. Memorial service is 3 p.m. Sunday at Stout Meetinghouse, Earlham
College, Richmond.
WORLEY, Harold E
HAROLD E. WORLEY, 84, of Fort Wayne, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003, in
Warsaw. He was born March 2, 1919, in Rockford, Ohio. Surviving is his
wife, Virginia L. Worley. Services are pending at Covington Memorial
Funeral Home, Fort Wayne.
YOUNG, Richard Donald
RICHARD DONALD YOUNG, 60, of St. George, Utah, formerly of Indianapolis
and Huntertown, died Sunday, July 13, 2003, at Ted Warthen Hospice
Center of St. George. He was a graduate of Huntertown High School,
attended Manchester College, General Electric Apprentice Management
Training, and was a member of Carmel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed
travel, golf, shop, euchre and pinocle. He was born Oct. 19, 1942, the
son of Donald and Ruth Marsh Young. He married Chery Schriver Young,
Sept. 21, 1963, in Garrett. Surviving in addition to his wife of St.
George are daughters, Christine Green of Indianapolis, Lynnette Brown
of St. George; son, David R. Young of Indianapolis; brother, Joe A.
Young of Churubusco; four grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews. Service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Orr Funeral home in Churubusco,
with Pastor Luther Burnett officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery, Fort

LLOYD R. ZENT, 70, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at home in Fort Wayne.
Born in Fort Wayne, he was a Welder with Fruehauf Trailer Co. for 25
years, a member of Eagles 248, AMVETS and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. "He
was a loving father and grandfather who will be missed and cherished
forever." "He was an avid Nascar fan." Survivors include his wife,
Bonnie L. of Fort Wayne; five daughters, Vickie Hernandez, Tammie
Uhrick, Terri Lahmeyer and Patti Churchill, all of Fort Wayne, Karen
Lewis of Muncie; five sons, Mark Gibson of Auburn, Vincent Gibson,
Michael Zent, Dale Zent and Jesse Zent, all of Fort Wayne; six sisters,
Margie Dennie, Betty Mills, Ruth Ballinger and Juanita Gillenwater, all
of Fort Wayne and Rosie Dawson and Donna Dawson, both of Ossian;

Obit: Robert L. French, 86, died, Thursday, January 04, 2007 at
Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Albany, IN, he was
the owner of French Construction and later Engineered Truss. He was a
US Army WW II veteran and attended Alliance Community Church. Survivors
include his loving wife of 63 years, Betty French; daughters, Jackie
Jacquelyn L Harmon (Paul) Harmon, Vickie (Ron) Caccamo all of Fort

Mrs. Geyer, wife of Lake Shore
Baggageman William B. Geyer. died at the home of her parents in
Leesburg Thursday and was buried there Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Geyer
formerly lived in this city but then moved to Toledo some time ago.

Charles Pettifer, a former Lake
Shore engineer but more recently employed as a machinist, died at his
home, No. 1204 Franklin street, of cerebral apoplexy at 4 p. m.
Wednesday. He had been confined to his bed for fourteen months. The
deceased was born in England on February 14, 1840. Surviving him are
his second wife, Minnie; sons, Frank and Edwin; daughters, Edith and
Charlene, and adopted daughter, Mrs. H. A. Wilder, all of this city. He
has brothers and sisters In England. Funeral services will be held at
the home at 11 a. m. Saturday by Rev. H. N. Spear of the Baptist
church. The body will be taken to White Pigeon for burial.
