Clay County Indiana
Dyer Cemetery
The Dyer cemetery was located in Clay
County IN, Cass Township, about 1 mile West of Poland IN. This would be
near the central part of the township in the year 1830. It was located
on a hill in a wheat field Northeast of Candle Corner on State Road 42.
One of my family lines was Purnal
Chance who was buried in this cemetery. Harriet Mead of Nice,
Calif sent me the names of the burials in 1980. She had received the
info from a Mary Gibbens, Center Point IN.
When we visited the cemetery in
1995 to check on the names on the stones, we found the cemetery had
been plowed under and the stones were all broken and wheat growing in
the area. The last information we have about Indiana is if the
cemetery is 100 yrs old, you can do whatever you want with it. Do
not know if the State ever changed the law.

There are no stones standing for the
people listed below. However, Samantha Comer Campbell of Poland IN (Dec
1948) told my mother and me many of times that they were buried there.
She was the granddaughter of Thomas Comer & daughter of Mary Comer.
