DUBOIS COUNTY
BETHLEHEM-MENTOR CEMETERY

Bethlehem-Mentor Cemetery is located in Jefferson Township, Dubois County, between Mentor and Birdseye,
north of State Highway 64. It is located on what, at one time, was the farm of Marion Sanders, Sr.,
the founder of Mentor. In 1933, the trustees of the cemetery were Alvin T. Whaley and Frank
Sanders. It is presumed that the first burial was that of Mary Sanders in April 1867.
There are several other burials with early dates, but these burials may have been reinterments from other cemeteries.
The names of all persons buried may never be known, but the names of those whose graves had markers in
March 1933 are listed below, compiled by Maude Pearl Sanders, a resident of Birdseye.
