Note: Andrew Lopp is the fourth child
of John Lopp Sr., and Anna Catharine Hamm. Andrew was born near
Lexington of Rowan County (now Davidson County), North Carolina and
came to Harrison County with his parents in 1807. Andrew was ordained
in 1838. “He did not do much pastoral work, but was one of the most
active and helpful local misiters to be found in the church. He
was an unusual character , according to traditional statements made by
the people who knew most about him.” Andrew married Elizabeth [Conrad]
Allburn, daughter of John and Mary Conrad Stoncipher, on 3 October
1839, in Harrison County, Indiana. Elizabeth had been previously
married to John H. Allburn. On 20 April 1837, Andrew and Elizabeth
resided on Buckcreek. After the death of Elizabeth Conrad Allburn,
Andrew married Hannah Stonecipher, daughter of Henry Stonecipher Jr.,
and Hannah Motsinger, on 22 July 1847, in Harrison County, Indiana.

Catharine married Lafayette Miller on 13 October 1868, in Harrison
County, Indiana. They lived in Crawford County. Catharine was born on
24 April 1827 in Harrison County, Indiana and died 16 June 1896 in
Crawford County, Indiana. She is buried at the Marengo Cemetery in
Crawford County.

Note: Lucinda Gilmore, daughter of
Alexander Gilmore and Rebecca Smith, married the Rev. John Lopp, after
the death of his wife Catherine Smoots. Lucinda Gilmore and Rev. John
Lopp were married on 10 May 1855, in Harrison County, Indiana. John and
Lucinda didn’t have any children. After Lucinda’s death, she left their
entire estate to the Trustees of the Mt. Zion Church, to be used for
the up-keep of the church and the old cemetery. Their old house in
Corydon (said to have been built by Henry Rice in 1812) was leased for
99 years, but in 1966, after much controversy, it was condemned and
torn down to make room for a parking lot. At that time, the Mt. Zion
Church received $10,000; $5,000 of which was put into a fund for the
up-keep of the seven cemeteries located at or near the Cross Roads, and
$5,000 was left in the hands of the Trustees. Lucinda’s father,
Alexander Gilmore was a Revolutionary Soldier in Virginia. He’s buried
at the Hottel-Gilmore Cemetery, in Harrison County, Indiana. Note: This
grave marker marks the grave of Lucinda [Gilmore] Lopp. Although the
names of Rev. Lopp and Catherine [Smoots] Lopp, his first wife, appears
on the same stone, they are believed to be buried in graves each marked
by a single headstone.

Note: John Lopp is the son of John
Lopp Sr., and Anna Catharine Hamm, of North Carolina. John (Jr.) was
born in Rowan County (now Davidson
County), North Carolina, and migrated to Harrison County with his
parents in 1807. The Rev. John Lopp founded several United Bretheran
Class churches. The Beechwood U.B. Church was founded by John
Lopp in 1814 or 1815. They erected a log house near the cemetery
in 1828. This church was used until the church at Concorde or Lopp’s
Landing was erected in 1842. Rev. John Lopp was the founder of the Mt.
Zion United Brethren Church, which he organized in 1820. Rev. John Lopp
was also responsible for founding the Bethel Church in 1831; located in
Heth Township. The Rev. John Lopp was first married to Catherine Smoots
on 5 March 1822, in Harrison County, Indiana. Catherine died 11 May
1854 and is buried at this cemetery. About a year later, the Rev. John
Lopp married Lucinda Gilmore, on 10 May 1855, in Harrison County,
Indiana. Note: John is named on another headstone along with Catherine
(Smoots), his first wife, and Lucinda (Gilmore), his second wife. This
single headstone is believed to be John’s grave.

of Virginia, was born on/about 2 July 1827, in Kentucky. On 16 February
1843, his father (Jacob Sr.) married Keziah McIntire, in Harrison
County, Indiana. On 10 Jan 1850, Jacob Pindell (the son), married
Elizabeth A. Jones, on 10 January 1850, in Harrison County, Indiana. In
the census of 1860, Jacob and Elizabeth were living in Boone Township
where Jacob was working as a cooper. On 1 November 1861, Jacob
enlisted in the Union Army as a Private. According to a military
record, Jacob enlisted in Company C of the 50th Indiana Infantry
Regiment, whereas his headstone states Company B. The military records
also state Jacob died in Harrison County while assigned to Company C of
the 50th Indiana Infantry Regiment. It is not known if he was
recuperating for battle wounds or died from an illness. The following
exert comes from historic records on the 50th Indiana Infantry
Regiment: “This regiment was organized at Seymour in Sept., 1861, and
was mustered in October. It left the state Dec. 25, for Bardstown, Ky.,
and from there it proceeded to Bowling Green, being assigned to
railroad guard duty in detachments along the Louisville & Nashville
road, until Sept., 1862.” Although, it isn’t stated, there were likely
small skirmishes during this period.

discharged from Company E, on 13 June 1865, in Nashville, Tennessee. On
21 October 1895, his widow, recorded as Mary J. Pinell, was approved
for a widow’s pension for John’s service during the war. A record
of their marriage could not be located.
