Transferred to Camp Seyier, S. C.; assigned to Company K, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Overseas May 17, 1918. Participated in battle of Ypres. Killed in action October 10, 1918. (Place of death and burial not known.)

BEATY, WILLIAM ANDERSON - - - - Private
Son of William Sherman and Ella Copeland Beaty; born July 31, 1895, Jackson Township, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service February 11, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Wasdworth, S. C.; assigned to Company K, 1st Pioneer Infantry. Overseas July 9, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 25, 1918, Hospital at Limoges, France. Buried near Paoli, Ind.

BENNETT, WILY MILTON - - - - Corporal
Son of William and Elizabeth Bennett; born November 23, 1882, Knox County, Ind. Farm laborer. Entered service about 1908 in England. Served with American Army in Philippines until 1909, and the British Army in India until the beginning of the World War. Killed in British trenches in France (date unknown). Survived by widow, Effie Bennett, living in England. (Parents of deceased live in Paoli, Ind.)

BENSON, WALTER - - - - Sergeant
Son of Noah and Anna Benson (Cornwell); born March 25, 1893, Hastings, Neb. Moved to Orange County, Ind., 1915.Printer. Entered service September 22, 1917. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to
Company K, 362nd Infantry, 91st Division. Sailed overseas September 4, 1918. Killed in action October 31, 1918, Wareghem, Belgium. Buried in American Cemetery, Ansegehm, Belgium. American Legion Post, French Lick, Ind., named in his honor.

BLEDSOE, ROSCOE - - - - Sergeant, U.S.M.C. Son of Delphus and Mary E. Bledsoe; born April 12, 1886, near French Lick, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps, February 22, 1914, Louisville, Ky. Trained at Parris Island, S. C., and Quantico, Va. Assigned to 74th Company, 6th Regiment, 2nd Division. Overseas in October 1917. Died from effects of gas, April 18, 1918, Verdun, France. Buried at Fresna (?), France, Grave No. 168.

BOLLINGS, WILLIAM S. - - - - Private
Son of Michael and Mary Ellen Boiling; born September 1, 1890, French Lick, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 6, 1917, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S. C.; assigned to Company A. 119th Infantry, 30th Division. Overseas May 11, 1918. Killed in action October 17, 1918, near Le Mans, France. Buried in British Military Cemetery, No. 642, Grave No. 10, Row 7, Plot A, St. Souplet, France.

BROCK, WARREN J  - - - - Private, U.S.M.C.
Son of Jahue M. and Mary E. Brock; born March 16, 1896, Lawrence County, Ind. Moved to Orange County in 1912. Railroad employee. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps May 8, 1917, Chicago, 1ll. Sent to Parris Island,S. C.; assigned to 79th Company, 6th Regiment Marines, 2nd Division. Overseas January 19, 1918. Killed in action July 19, 1918, Soissons, France. Buried in American Cemetery, Parcy-Tigny, Aisne, France. American Legion Post, Orleans, Ind., named in his honor.

BUSICK, CLARENCE J. - - - - Private
Son of Henry S. and Alice Busick (deceased); born November 14, 1891, near Chambersburg, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Iowa National Guard April 12, 1917, Webster City, Iowa. Trained at Camp Dodge, Iowa; and Camp Mills, N.Y. Assigned to Company C, 168th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Overseas November 14, 1917. Killed October 18, 1918, at Cote de Chatillon, during the Meuse Argonne Offensive. (Place of burial not known).

CARNES, ROSS E. - - - - Private
Son of Josiah and Millie A. Carnes; born December 20, 1895, French Lick, Orange County, Ind. Student, Indiana University. Entered service April 1, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 10th Company, 3rd Training Battalion. 159th Depot Brigade; transferred to Company G, 112th Infantry. Overseas in May 1918. Fought in second battle of the Marne. Killed in Argonne Forest, October 4, 1918. (Place of burial not known.)

CLAXTON, BANKS M. - - - - Private
Son of George L. and Elizabeth J. Claxton; born September 2, 1895, near Paoli, Orange County, Ind. Laborer. Entered service January 19, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 18th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade; transferred to Company M, 1st Pioneer Infantry. Died of pneumonia November 20, 1918, Base Hospital No. 3, Menezterol, Dordogne, France. Buried in American Cemetery, near where he died.

CRECELIUS, WEAVER J. - - - - Private
Son of Thomas S. and Rebecca D. Crecelius; born November 17, 1892, Eckerty, Crawford County, Ind. Moved to Orange County, 1901. Laborer. Entered service June 25, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company F, 336th Infantry, 84th Division. Embarked September 7, 1918; assigned to Company I, 362nd Infantry, 91st Division. Killed in action October 31, 1918, near Courtrai, Belgium. Buried at Eckerty, Crawford County, Ind.

EDWARDS, WESLEY DUROS - - - - Private
Son of Henry A. and Elizabeth F. Edwards; born August 23, 1891, Paoli, Ind. Mail carrier. Entered service August 27, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 23rd Company, 6th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade. Died of pneumonia October 11, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in Stampers Creek Cemetery, Orange County, Ind. Survived by widow, Verna Noblett Edwards, and daughter, Wesaline Alice Edwards, Paoli, Ind.

ELLIOTT, GILBERT R. - - - - Private
Son of Wesley (deceased) and Sarah Elliott; born November 30, 1887, Stampers Creek, Orange County, Ind. Moved to Arizona in 1910. Carpenter. Entered service (date not known) Haydon, Ariz. Sent to Camp Funston, Kans.; assigned to Company G, 353rd Infantry, 89th Division. Overseas. (Date not known.) Killed in action September 12, 1918, France. (Place of death and burial unknown.)

FINKBINER, EVERETT MILTON - - - - Private
Son of Joseph and Alpharetta L. Finkbiner; born June 21 , 1894, Montpelier, Ohio. Moved to Orange County, Ind., 1909. Farmer. Entered service October 8, 1917, Elizabeth, Colo. Trained at Camp Funston, Kan. Embarked June 28, 1918; assigned to Company K, 110th Infantry, 28th Division. Killed at Ourcq River July 28, 1918. Survived by widow, Lela Gerkin Finkbiner, and daughter, Marjorie, Orleans, Ind. Body to be returned, and buried near Orleans, Ind.

FORD, OSCAR L. - - - - Private
Son of Ephriam W. and Alice Ford; born December 12, 1893, Orleans, Orange County, Ind. Railroad employee. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army, 1914, Oxford, Iowa. Trained at Camps Dodge, Iowa, and Dix, N.J. Assigned to Cavalry. Transferred to Supply Company, 133rd Infantry, and served as Wagoner. Died of pneumonia September 29, 1918, Camp Dix, N.J. Buried in LO.O.F. Cemetery, Orleans, Ind.

GAHAN, ERNEST E. - - - - Private
Son of Edward E. and Isabelle Gahan; born August 22, 1898, Chelmsford, Mass. Moved to Orleans, Ind. in 1913. Farmer. Enlisted January 25, 1917, Louisville, Ky. Sent to Bliss, Tex.; assigned to Company K, 16th Infantry. Embarked June 2, 1917. Participated in battles of Chateau- Thierry, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Died of pneumonia January 31, 1919, at Debarkation Hospital No. 2, New York. Buried at Ames Chapel, near West Baden, Ind.

GRIGSBY, HARRY BERNARD - - - - Private
Son of Isaac L. and Ella Grigsby; born January 19, 1898, West Baden, Orange County, Ind. Student. Entered service August 23, 1918, Indianapolis, Ind. Entered Vocational School; trained at Metropole Hotel, Indianapolis, Ind., at which place he died of influenza-pneumonia October 6, 1918. Buried at Ames Chapel, three miles east of West Baden, Ind.

HAMMOND, DORA I.- - - - - Private
Son of Richmond J. and Ida Jane Hammond; born April 7, 1887, Youngs Creek, Orange County, Ind. Postmaster. Entered service August 26, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to 21st Company, 6th Battalion 160th Depot Brigade; transferred to 14th Sanitary Train. Died of pneumonia October 16, 1918, Camp Custer, Mich. Buried in cemetery at Apples Chapel, near Youngs Creek, Ind. Survived by widow, Pearl Hammond, Youngs Creek, Ind.

HOOTON, CLYDE D. - - - - Private
Son of Samuel O. and Viola Belle Hooton; born May 26, 1895, Orleans, Ind. Entered service June 26, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 20th Company, 5th Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade; then to Company B, 334th Infantry. Overseas September 2, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 10, 1918, Camp Hospital No. 54, Razac, France. Buried in Cemetery No. 87, Perigueux, Dordogne, France.

JORDAN, IRA - - - - Sergeant
Son of James (deceased) and Mary Shields Jordan; born October 10, 1884, Orleans, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army June 15, 1916, Indianapolis. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Transferred to 3rd Company, Ft. Winfield Scott, Ca1.; later to Headquarters Casualty Detachment. Overseas July 14, 1918. Returned to U.S. February 1,1919. Died of tuberculosis October 22, 1919, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried, Orleans, Ind.

KEETH, CLARENCE ALEXANDER - - - - Private
Son of James Samuel and Sarah E. Keeth; born February 22, 1896, Paoli, Ind. Railroad employee. Entered service September 23, 1917, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S.C.; assigned to Company I, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Embarked May 24, 1918. Died August 31, 1918, of wounds received in action, Ypres, Belgium. Body returned, and buried at Paoli, Ind. American Legion Post, Paoli, Ind., named in his honor.

KEMPLE, JESSE R. - - - - Private
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kemple; born January 1, 1893, Rego, Orange County, Ind. Tailor. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 3, 1913. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Stationed at Fortress Monroe, Va. Transferred to New York; assigned to Mine Layers, 1st N. Y. Coast Artillery Corps. Died of tuberculosis November 17, 1917, Rockefeller Hospital, N.Y. Buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Rego, Orange County, Ind.

KING, HOMER D. - - - - Corporal, U.S.M.C.
Son of Isaac Emery and Mary S. King; born October 2, 1898, Dubois County, "Ind. Moved to Orange County, 1907. Student. Served on Mexican Border 1916, with Indiana National Guard. Enlisted in U.S. Marine Corps February 4, 1918. Trained at Parris Island, S. C.; and Quantico, Va. Assigned to 79th Company, 6th Regiment, U.S. Marines. Overseas April 30, 1918. Wounded at Soissons July 19, 1918, and died a few days later. (Exact date of death and burial place unknown.)

KIRBY, MANOAH J. - - - - Corporal
Son of Hawkins and Drusilla Kirby; born May 1, 1894, West Baden, Orange County, Ind. Salesman. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army April 8, 1917, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo.; assigned to Company E, 18th Infantry. Transferred to Douglas, Ariz.; assigned to Headquarters Company, 18th Infantry, Signal Corps. Embarked June 10, 1917. Killed in action May 1, 1918, near Cantigny, France. (Burial place unknown.)

LINGLE, JOHN ARTHUR, Jr. - - - - Captain
Son of John Arthur, Sr., and Junia Stinson Lingle; born October 4, 1890, Paoli, Ind. Graduate of Depauw University, and of the Law Department of Washington and Lee University, Va. Lawyer. Entered First Officers Training Camp May 15, 1917, Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Commissioned Second Lieutenant. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Headquarters Company. Promoted to Captain. Overseas in October, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 21, 1918, Liverpool, England. Buried, L.O.O.F. Cemetery, Paoli, Ind.

McDONALD, GEORGE J.  - - - - Private
Son of Kinsey and Ruhanna McDonald; born June 8, 1891, Shoals, Martin County, Ind. Moved to Orange County about 1899. Laborer. Entered service October 6, 1917, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Embarked April 7, 1918; assigned to Company G, 28th Infantry, 1st Division. Participated in battle of Soissons. Reported missing in action, then killed in action July 20, 1918. (Place of death and burial unknown.)

PHILLIPS, LACEY - - - - Private
Son of John and Fannie Phillips; born July 28, 1890, near Atterson, Casey County, Ky. Moved to Orange County, Ind., March, 1898. Mechanic. Entered service 1918, Akron, Ohio. Trained at Kelly Field, Tex. Served as mechanic in Aero Service. Died July 11, 1918, at Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Tex., as a result of injuries received while diving from springboard in swimming pool. Buried in cemetery at Ames Chapel, near West Baden, Orange County, Ind.

SEARS, CLAUDE - - - - Private
Son of Thomas W. and Lillie M. Sears; born September 23, 1895, near Orleans, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 25, 1918, Paoli, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Battery A, 6th Regiment Field Artillery. Discharged from service December 17, 1918. Died of influenza three days later, December 20, 1918, Orleans, Ind. Survived by widow, Della Frances Russell Sears, Orleans, Ind. Buried in LO.O.F. Cemetery, Orleans, Ind.

WEEKS, STALLARD ROSCOE - - - - Cook
Son of Caswell and Lucy Weeks; born August 27, 1891, Paoli, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army December 6, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga.; then to Camp Greene, N. C. Later transferred to Kelly Field, Tex.; assigned to 8th Casual Company, 3rd Aviation Section, Mechanic Production. Embarked June 21, 1918. Died of pneumonia November 5, 1918, Romorantin, (?) France. Buried in LO.O.F. Cemetery, Paoli,

WOLFE, CLARENCE R. - - - - Private
Son of Andrew and Nellie May Wolfe; born February 1, 1895, Paoli, Orange County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service October 7, 1917, Paoli, Ind. Trained at Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company D, 335th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S. C.; assigned to Company I, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Embarked May 17, 1918. Killed in action, September, 1, 1918. (Place not known). Buried in Nine Elms British Cemetery, Poperinghe, Belgium.
