Son of Isaac and Rachel Ann Anderson; born September 3, 1892, Stewartsville, Posey County, Ind. Paper hanger. Entered service June 14, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Posey County, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis, and assigned to the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Training Detachment. Transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Battery A, 8th Battalion, Field Artillery Remount Depot. Contracted pneumonia, and died October 7, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried at New Harmony, Ind.

CROW, WILLIAM Private
Son of George Washington and Louisa Crow; born June 18, 1894, Montgomery, Gibson County, Ind. Moved to Posey County in 1916. Farmer. Entered service June 24, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company I, 334th Infantry. (Date overseas not given.) Died of lobar pneumonia October 16, 1918, at American Camp Hospital No. 26, Noyers, France. Buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Mt. Vernon, Ind.

CURTIS, ROBERT KOCH Private
Son of James B. and Mary Curtis; born March 31, 1891, Black Township, Posey County, Ind. Coal miner. Entered service March 31, 1918, Mr. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Battery F, 322nd Field Artillery. Went overseas (date not known). Killed in action October 21, 1918. (Burial place not known.)

DIVINE, OWEN ELLSWORTH .... Private Son of John Lowery and America Elizabeth Divine; born February 11, 1894, Black Township, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service June 24, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to 8th Company, 2nd Training Battalion, 158th Depot Brigade; transferred to Company I, 333rd Infantry. Died of broncho-pneumonia October 15, 1918, Camp Sherman, Ohio. Buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Black Township, Posey County, Ind.

DIXON, CHARLES - - Private
(Parents names unknown). Next of kin Mrs. Phoebe Elliott, New Harmony, Ind. Born in July 1882, Chicago, Ill. Farmer. Enlisted in the Indiana National Guard July 7, 1917, Princeton, Ind. Sent to Jeffersonville, Ind. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Supply Company, 152nd Infantry, as Company Clerk. Died of disease October 15, 1917, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried in Natchez National Cemetery, Natchez, Miss.

DUNN, OWEN Private
Son of Alvin P. and Gillie Munsey Dunn; born October 9, 1892, near Upton, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Company L, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, June 18, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss.; assigned to Automatic Replacement Draft. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Company K, 4th Infantry, 3rd Division. Killed in action July 16, 1918. (Burial place unknown.) American Legion Post, Mt. Vernon, Ind., named in his honor.

GERTON, MARION ------- Private
Son of Louis E. and Elizabeth A. Gerton; born October 3*0, 1892, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Factory employe. Enlisted in Company L, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, July 16, 1917, Mt. Vernon. Sent to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Machine Gun Company, 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Fought at Champagne, St. Mihiel, and in Argonne Forest. Died of influenza February 1, 1919, Coblenz, Germany. Buried in Welborn Cemetery, Poseyville, Ind.

GOEBEL, FRANK - Private
Son of Henry and Francis Goebel; born May 7, 1890, Wadesville, Posey County, Ind. Log and lumber dealer, and road supervisor. Entered service August 29, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to 19th Company, 160th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Company F, 78th Infantry. Died of pneumonia October 4, 1918, Camp Custer. Buried in St. Phillips Catholic Cemetery, St. Phillips, Posey County, Ind.

GORDON, HOMER JOSEPH ----- Private Son of Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth Gordon; born October 17, 1887, Owensboro, Ky. Moved to Indiana in 1891. Barber. Entered service October 6, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company L, 335th Infantry. Sent to Camp Sevier, S. C. Overseas May 12, 1918; assigned to Company A, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. Died September 29, 1918, from wounds received in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. Buried in British Military Cemetery at Doingt, Somme, France.

HOBBS, CHARLES HERBERT - - - Private
Son of William and Nancy Jane Hobbs; born October 12, 1896, Mt. Vernon, Posey County, Ind. Served in the U.S. Navy 1913-1916. Enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1916, Vancouver; assigned to 102nd Canadian Infantry. Overseas (Date not given.) Killed in the battle of Lens, August 18, 1917. Lens, France. Survived by widow, Edith Rogers Hobbs, London.

HOHIMER, SIDNEY Private
Son of George T. and Nancy J. Hohimer; born August 18, 1892, Wadesville, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in Arkansas National Guard in summer of 1917, Camden, Arkansas. Sent to Camp Beauregard, La. (Assignments not known.) Embarked June 11, 1918. Killed in action October 6, 1918, Argonne Forest. Buried, "Somewhere in France."

HUCK, HERBERT 2ND Lieutenant
Son of Henry A. and Mary Frick Huck; born August 11, 1894, Wadesville, Posey County, Ind. Graduate of State Normal Schoo1. Teacher. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 14, 1917, Terre Haute, Ind.; assigned to Aviation Service. Stationed at Kelly Field, Tex., Americus, Ga., and Garden City, N.Y. Graduate of U.S. School of Military Aeronautics, Ithaca, N.Y. Killed in aeroplane accident September 27, 1918, Talia- ferro Field, Tex. Buried, Wadesville, Ind.

KLEINSCHMIDT, WILLIAM AUGUST - - Private Son of Henry and Mary Kleinschmidt; born February 1891, Marrs Township, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 21, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Company F, 152nd Infantry, 38th Division. Died October 13, 1918, from wounds received in action. Buried in American Military Cemetery, Souhesme-la- Grande, France.

LURKER, JOHN Corporal
Son of John and Wilhelmina Lurker; born July 29, 1895, Marrs Township, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 22, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Company I, 335th Infantry. Transferred to Camp Seyier, S. C.; assigned to Company C, 120th Infantry 30th Division. Overseas May 12, 1918. Killed in action September 29, 1918. (Place not known). Buried in American Cemetery, Bony-Aisne, France.

McCRACKEN, LALUS (Colored) - ... Private Son of W. D. and Jennie McCracken; born May 9, 1889, Grand Rivers, Ky. Porter. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army August 23, 1918, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to Company F, 809th Pioneer Infantry. Went overseas October 12, 1918. Died of pneumonia April 2, 1919, St. Nazaire, France. Body to be buried at Grand Rivers, Ky.

MARQUIS, OLIVER ------- Private
Son of Ezekiel and Lucinda Marquis; born June 24, 1895, St. Wendells, Posey County, Ind. Garage employe. Enlisted in Company K, 2nd Infantry, Indiana National Guard, June 28, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Trained at Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas June 12, 1918; assigned to Company K, 166th Infantry, 42nd (Rainbow) Division. Killed in action November 7, 1918, near Cheney. Buried in American Cemetery No. 1203, Ardennes, France. Awarded Distinguished Service Cross. American Legion Post Poseyville, Ind., named in his honor.

MARTIN, LEMUEL HERBERT - - - - Private Son of Thomas and Nora Martin; born December 3, 1898, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army July 25, 1917, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Went overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Company G, 4th Infantry. Died of wounds September 24, 1918. Buried in the American Cemetery No. 608, Seringes-et-Nesles, Aisne, France.

MITZ, JOHN M. -------- Private
Son of John and Hannah Mitz; born March 2, 1892, Wadesville, Posey County, Ind. Farm laborer. Entered service January 24, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Sherman, Ohio; assigned to Company I, 333rd Infantry; later to Company D, 364th Infantry, 84th Division. Went overseas September 2, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 29, 1918, in hospital, Allery France. Buried at Allery, France.

NEEL, EARL BRYAN - U.S. Navy
Son of Benjamin Franklin and Carrie Conrad Neel; born September 10, 1898, New Harmony, Posey County, Ind. Telephone company employe. Entered U.S. Navy July 9, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Prudence Island, Washington. Released from service, subject to call. Died of tuberculosis while in care of Government, April 7, 1920, Tucson, Ariz. Buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, New Harmony, Ind.

OXFORD, JOSEPH MARSHALL, Quartermaster, 2nd Class Son of George E. and Mary Julia Oxford (Holland); born February 13, 1895, near Mt. Vernon, Posey County, Ind. Enlisted in U.S. Navy April 12, 1914; served three years, discharged. Re-enlisted April 10, 1917, Evansville, Ind. Stationed on receiving ship, Norfolk, Va.; assigned to duty as Quartermaster, 2nd class, on the Cyclops. This vessel was last seen March 4, 1918. Fate unknown.

PIERCE, MARVIN ERIC Private
Son of James Alfred and Zona M. Pierce; born November 30, 1895, Wadesville, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Entered service July 25, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 43th Company, 11th Training Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Camp McClellan, Ala.; assigned to Battery C, 34th Field Artillery. Died of pneumonia at Camp McClellan, October 19, 1918.' Buried at Poseyville, Ind.

RABER, GEORGE F. ------- Private
Son of George C. and Elizabeth Raber; born March 28, 1890, Robinson Township, Posey County, Ind. Farmer and carpenter. Entered service June 25, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 335th Infantry. Overseas, (date not known); transferred to Machine Gun Company, 347th Infantry. Died of wounds November 27, 1918, Boulogne, France. Buried in St. Peter's Cemetery, Robinson Township, Posey County, Ind.

REDMAN, OTIS HAROLD Private
Son of Job B. and Della Redman (Bradley); born October 22, 1896, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Farmer. Entered service September 6, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to 54th Company, 14th Battalion, 159th Depot Brigade. Transferred to Battery D, 72nd Field Artillery. Contracted pneumonia, and died October 17, 1918, Camp Taylor, Ky. Buried at Mt. Vernon, Ind.

REYNOLDS, ANGUS PAUL - ... Sergeant
Son of George S. and Isabelle Reynolds; born July 30, 1892, Robb Township, Posey County, Ind. Mechanic. Entered service June 14, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Indianapolis; transferred to Camp Taylor, Ky.; assigned to Headquarters Supply Company, 18th Battalion, Field Artillery Replacement Draft. Overseas October, 1918; assigned to 318th Motor Truck Company. Killed in automobile accident at St. Nazaire, May 31, 1919. Buried at St. Nazaire, France. American Legion Post, Stewartsville, Ind., named in his honor.

ROEHR, ALBERT JACOB Private
Son of Fred and Louisa Roehr; born May 9, 1893, Marrs Township, Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Entered sen-ice August 29, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Custer, Mich.; assigned to Company E, 14th Ammunition Train. Contracted pneumonia, and died September 28, 1918, Camp Custer, Mich. Buried in M. E. Cemetery, Caborns, Posey County, Ind. Survived by widow, Meta Rosina Roehr, and son, Albert Roehr, Mt. Vernon, Ind.

RUSSELL, JESSE EDWARD Private
Son of Albert and Elizabeth Thomas Russell; born November 28, 1895, Henderson County, Ky. Moved with family to Posey County, Ind. (date not known.) Laborer. Entered service September 18, 1917, Henderson, Ky. Trained at Camp Taylor, Ky.; and Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June 1918; assigned to Company E, 7th Infantry, 7th Division. Killed in action July 15, 1918. Buried in American Cemetery No. 1764, Belleau, Aisne.

SEIFERT, DANIEL FREDERICK - Seaman, 2ND Class
Son of Nicholas and Mary Seifert; born December 4, 1887, near Caborns, Posey County, Ind. Deputy county treasurer. Entered U.S. Navy July 8, 1918, Evansville, Ind. Sent to Great Lakes Naval Training Station, 111. Died of disease September 29, 1918. Buried in St. Johns Cemetery at Caborns, Posey County, Ind. Survived by widow, Elfrieda Seifert, and two sons, Harry, and Ralph, Evansville, Ind.

SHOWERS, JAMES WAYNE - - - Company Clerk Son of Richard and Elsie Wilkinson Showers; born June 8, 1897, Cynthiana, Posey County, Ind. Student. Enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, April 22, 1918. Sent to Parris Island, S. C.; transferred to Quantico, Va.; assigned to duty as Company Clerk with Company D, 1st Battery, 131st Regiment. Embarked September 13, 1918. Died of influenza on board the Von Steuben enroute to France. Body returned to Cynthiana, Ind. for buria1. American Legion Post, Cynthiana, Ind. named in his honor.

SMITH, MOTE (Colored) - Private
Son of Richard and Maria Smith; born November 16, 1888, Mt. Vernon, Posey County, Ind. Laborer. Entered service August 23, 1918, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa; assigned to Company E, 809th Pioneer Infantry. Overseas September 29, 1918. Died of pneumonia October 11, 1918, Base Hospital No. 101, St. Nazaire, France. Buried in National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

SUGG, LOYD SAMUEL Private
Son of Henry H. and Lula Sugg; born February 5, 1894, Mt. Vernon, Ind. Educated in Indiana University. Shoe salesman. Entered service December 10, 1917, Spokane, Wash. Went to Washington, D.C. on Troop Train arriving at Camp Meade December 20, 1917. Taken ill, and sent to Hospital, Ft. Meyer, Va., where he died of spinal meningitis, January 3, 1918. Buried at Mount Vernon, Ind.

WADE, FREDERICK S. - - - - Jr. Lieutenant Son of Jesse S. and Katherine Wade; born August 21, 1883; New Harmony, Posey County, Ind. Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1903. Served with U.S. Navy in all parts of the World. Rose to rank of Lieutenant. During the World War, he was assigned to duty on the U.S. Destroyer Wainrighl. Died of pneumonia February 1, 1919, while at home on a furlough, New Harmony, Ind.

WALLS, GEORGE ANDERSON - - - - Private Son of Harden and Tilathia Walls; born June 5, 1890, White County, Ill. Parents reside in Posey County, Ind. Farmer. Enlisted in U.S. Regular Army September 22, 1917, Carmi, 111. Sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. Transferred to Camp Pike, Ark. Overseas June 11, 1918; assigned to Company F, 9th Infantry 2nd Division. Killed in action November 11, 1918, Armistice Day. Buried, "Somewhere in France."

WILLIAMS, CARL FLETCHALL - - - Musician Son of Le Roy and Elizabeth E. Williams; born October 10, 1892, Poseyville, Ind. Graduate of Purdue University. Mechanical engineer. Enlisted in May, 1917, Indianapolis, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss., where he served as member of Headquarters Company Band, 151st Infantry. Contracted pneumonia, which caused his death April 24, 1918, Camp Shelby, Miss. Buried with military honors, at Poseyville, Ind.

WILLIAMS, JAMES (Colored) Private
Son of George and Mary Williams; born August, 1889, Shawneetown, 1ll. Living in Mt. Vernon, Ind. when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army September 22, 1917, Ft. Thomas, Ky. Transferred to Newport News, Va.; assigned to Company G, 301st Stevedore Regiment, Quartermaster Corps. Died of disease February 26, 1918, Newport News, Va. Survived by widow, Rena Williams, and children Mary, George and Fay.
