Page 72 of Blanchard, Charles, Counties of Clay and Owen, Indiana, Historical and Biographical . . . Chicago, F.A. Battey & Co., 1884, states that Benjamin and Elizabeth (Massey), born in Kentucky and North Carolina, respectively came to Owen County in 1830. The same paragraph gives the birthplace of Elias Ranard as Pulaski County, Kentucky. Apparently the Renards did not arrive in Indiana until after the 1830 census was taken. In 1840, Benjamin, Daniel, and Joel Ranard are all enumerated on p. 171 of the Owen County census.
By 1860, the only one of this family listed in Owen County was Joel, age 49, born in Kentucky.
