~ Indiana State Journal ~ Judge Samuel B. Voyles Succumbs to Stroke of
Paralysis.
Salem, Indiana, Nov 21 -
Samuel B Voyles died at his home, in this city, at 1:15 o'clock today
of paralysis. He was born in this county in 1843. He served
in the army from 1861 to 1864 in the Eighteenth Indiana. He
attended the St. Louis School of Law and practiced in Missouri,
afterwards settling here. He was twice elected district
prosecutor and in 1890 he was elected joint senator from Floyd and
Washington. He served a term a commissioner of the state monument
board. He was elected in 1890 as judge of the Forty second
judicial circuit and re-elected in 1896. he had served but two
years of his last term. The funeral takes place from teh
residence at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. His death causes a
vacancy which will be filled by Governor Mount in a few days and it is
thought here that Hon. David Alspaugh will be Mr. Voyles's
successor, as his friends will in due time urge his appointment.
SEYMOUR Indiana, November 21--
The death of Judge Voyles, at Salem, today leaves a vacancy which will
have to be filled at once, as the term of court in this county should
have begun its November term today. There is hardly any doubt
that Hon. O. H. Montgomery of this city, would receive the endorsement
of the Republicans of the district should he desire the place, but
there is a question as to whether he would accept. His law
practice is very large, and the man who is appointed by Governor Mount
will have only two years to serve. Mr Montgomery is attending
court at Shoals and cannot be seen tonight. The republicans here
are a unit for him.

No parent's tender hand was
there ~ To sooth the pillow for thy head;
And not a kindred heart to share ~ The anguish of thy
dying-bed--
The stranger as he wanders near ~ Thy grave, when twilight
veils the earth,
Will heedless pass, nor shed a tear ~ In tribute to
departed worth.
But distant far, a parent's eyes, ~ Shall oft affection's
tribute pay;
And oft the sad remembrance rise, ~ of him who died far,
far away.
