Peter Ackerman

Man Burns To Death

Peter Ackerman resided in a small house about a mile and a half northwest of Allison, alone. He was a bachelor, about 45 years of age. Up to about three years ago his mother resided with him.

At about 10 o'clock Friday night his home was seen by neighbors to be burning, but by the time of their arrival there was nothing that could by saved. It was supposed that the building had taken fire during the owner's absence, but a visit to the place next morning showed charred human bones among the ashes. Part of the hip bones and skull were recovered. These bones are supposed to have been those of Ackerman. How the fire started is not known.

Ackerman was a sort of recluse, little being known of him save that he worked out in the neighborhood. It is believed by many that he had money in the house, and some incline to the belief that he was murdered for this and the house burned to destroy the evidence of the crime.

A coroner's inquest failed to develop anything tangible as to his death or the cause of the fire. Clarksville Star.
