Doyle in the Catholic Church, Lohrville, Today. A romance that began three years ago, when E. L. Doyle, secretary-treasurer of district No. 15, United Mine Workers, was serving a sentence in the Denver county jail for contempt of court, culminated today when he was married to Miss Margaret Zita Bowen at Lohrville, Iowa. Miss Bowen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bowen. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father George Costella in the Catholic church at Lohrville. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle left at once for Chicago to spend a short honeymoon and will go from there to Indianapolis to attend the convention of the United Mine Workers of America. Doyle met his bride while he was in the county jail serving a sentence of one year and $500 fine imposed by Judge Greeley W. Whitford for contempt of court. Early in January of 1911 Miss Bowen came to Denver with the family of James Gormanley of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Gormanley, his sister and daughter were well acquainted with Doyle and often visited him at the jail. Miss Bowen accompanied the Gormanley’s on one of these visits and was introduced to Doyle. At first she came on regular visiting days. After several weeks she so won the good graces of Warden Reardon that she was allowed to see her present husband at other times. Father O’Reegan officiated at the wedding ceremony in St. Francis de Sales church yesterday morning of Miss Evelyn Wells and Mr. George a. Gaffney. The bride who wore white satin with a corsage bouquet of Cecil Bruner roses, was attended by her sister, Mrs. Lillian Hunt. Mrs. William Hunt acted as best man. Following the ceremony, the young couple left for a honeymoon at the beaches, the bride looking charming in a grey suit with a hat to match. Mrs. Gaffney is a Riverside girl, the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. C. W. Wells, 1180 West Fourteenth. Mr. Gaffney, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Gaffney of Lohrville, Iowa, has been stationed at March field for some time. Scott ~ Lumpkin on 04 Feb 1866 Iowa Marriages, 1809-1992 = Submitted by Sandy Denney Siemann ~ Huettl On Monday morning, June 19th, at 9 o’clock, at the Catholic church in Columbia occurred the marriage of Miss Mary Huettl of Colombia to Francis L. Siemann of Lohrville, Ia. They were attended by Theresa Huettl, a sister of the bride, and Fred Siemann, a cousin of the groom. Many relatives from Westport and Aberdeen were present at the wedding. Rev. Father Ryan performed the marriage ceremony. After the wedding the newly married couple and their guest repaired to the Huettl home five miles west of Colombia, where a wedding dinner was served. The young couple will visit among their relatives of Westport and Aberdeen for a couple of weeks and then leave for their future home near Lohrville, Iowa.
