Harold H. Curry

John Curry and wife mourn the death of their youngest babe, which occurred this noon. The little one has been sick for two days and this morning developed symptoms which portended its death. The parents have the sympathy of the community.

Harriett Abbie (Hallock) Curry

Mrs. Curry Dies At Family Home Here Yesterday

Well Known Lady Passes Away, Victim of Cancer From Which She Had Suffered for Long Time.

Mrs. Harriett Abbie Curry, wife of John Curry and one of the best known and loved women of the city, died at the family home, 809 Locust street, at 6:15 last evening [February 15], death being the result of cancer and coming after long suffering. She had been ailing for a number of years and had twice submitted to operations for the removal of the growth, but the relief was not permanent.

Born At Oakfield.

Deceased was the daughter of the late I[saac] P[eter] Hallock [Jr.] and wife [Malinda Ann Norton], and was born on the Hallock home place at Oakfield [Audubon County, Iowa] on the 23rd of August, 1868.

She was married to John Curry on the 25th of November 1890 and they have made their home in this city since. Besides her sorrowing husband she leaves two children, Ralph and Miss Mary at home, and two brothers, Percy Hallock and Keyes Hallock of Audubon county.

Funeral Saturday.

The deceased was a member of the M.E. church and the funeral services will be held at that church at two o'clock Saturday afternoon [February 18], the Rev. F.W. Simpson officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery. The sympathy of all goes out to the bereaved ones in their hour of trouble.

John Joseph Curry

John Curry, 85, of 809 Locust street, longtime Atlantic resident, died at 10:20 last night [May 5] at the Atlantic Memorial hospital, to which he was returned yesterday afternoon from Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs. He had been at Mercy hospital about two weeks and had been in failing health two years.

Mr. Curry was born in Oliphant, Pa., May 13, 1868, the son of Thomas W. and Ann McNamay Curry and had lived in Atlantic since coming here with his parents in 1877. He was married to Harriett Abbie Hallock on the Hallock farm at Oakfield Dec. 25, 1890. Mrs. Curry died Feb. 15, 1922. Mr. Curry was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary, with whom he made his home; a son, Ralph J. Curry of Oakfield; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Hugh Allen, of Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday [May 8] at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Rev. J. A. Devlin of Wiota officiating. The remains will be at the Roland funeral home, where The Rosary will be recited tonight and Friday evening at 8 o'clock. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.

Mary Curry

Funeral services for Mary Curry, 66, of 809 Locust street, were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon [January 12] at the Methodist church, the Rev. Donald C. Bissinger officiating. Miss Curry died at 10:55 Saturday morning [January 10] at the Atlantic Memorial hospital following a long illness.

She was born in Atlantic Feb. 26, 1892, the daughter of John and Harriett Abbie Hallock Curry and had lived here all her life. She was graduated from the Atlantic high school in 1910 and attended Kearney Teachers college at Kearney, Nebr. She taught and was a bookkeeper a number of years. Miss Curry was a member of the First Methodist church and D.A.R.

Surviving are a brother, Ralph J. Curry of Brayton, a nephew and two nieces and a cousin, Mrs. Hugh Allen of Atlantic.

Mrs. Harl Holt, accompanied by Mrs. John F. Bergstrom, sang "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Isle" at services this afternoon. Mrs. Zola Carey and Esther Butler were in charge of flowers and serving as casket bearers were Ralph Cockshoot, Charles C. Ruhr, Scott Pollock, Boyd Cambridge, George Olsen and Fred Cornell. Interment was in the Atlantic cemetery.

Ralph J. Curry

Ralph Curry Of Exira Dies

Ralph Curry, 75, former Oakfield Township farmer, died Sunday afternoon at the Exira Care Center, where he had resided since last August.

Mr. Curry was born Feb. 27, 1901, in Atlantic, the son of John Joseph and Harriet[t] Abbie Hallock Curry and was graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1921. He married Audrey May Trailer March 22, 1922, in Marne and they farmed for nine years north of Atlantic and for nine years north of Anita.

They later moved to Oakfield east of Brayton and farmed there for 33 years until moving to Exira in 1972. Mr. Curry joined Pymosa AF&AM Lodge 271 in 1929 and was a member of Exodus Lodge 342 of Exira and OES Exodus Lodge of Exira. During World War II he was a township War Bond chairman.

Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Cathryn) Christensen of Amana and Mrs. Norman (Harriet) Kirk of Exira; a son, Jack Curry of Exira; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a cousin, Mrs. Hugh (Marie) Allen of Atlantic. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Curry; and a brother, Harold Curry, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday [May 4] at the Roland Funeral home here [in Atlantic], with Rev. Tom Carpe of the Exira Christian Church officiating. Interment will be in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton.

The family will meet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 7:30-8:30 this evening. There will be a Masonic service at the funeral home by Exodus Lodge 342 of Exira at 8:30 this evening.

Barbary Hoblit

Mrs. Barbary Hoblit, of Grove City, Cass Co., aged 85, died suddenly on the night of the 10th inst., - supposed to have been caused by the sudden disruption of an abcess or ulcer in the stomach. See Messenger.

Joseph Hugh Jordon

Joseph Hugh Jordon died near Atlantic, Cass Co., Iowa on March 12, 1877 of lung fever, aged 2 years and 16 days. On March 16, 1877 Willie Clare Jordan aged 9 months and 15 days also died. Both are sons of W.B. and Mary J. Jordan and grandchildren of William and Sarah Jordan of rural Rock Island County.

William Kay

William Kay. a Des Moines plumber, was murdered at Atlantic. His body was found on the Rock Island right of way, and the report was first given out that he had been struck by a train. No motive can be assigned for the crime.

Kenneth Sams

Atlantic - Services for Kenneth Sams, 79, retired farmer, were held Saturday afternoon at the Roland funeral home here. Burial was in the Atlantic Cemetery.

He died Friday at a Council Bluffs hospital, where he had been a patient 10 days.

Surviving are sons, Alvin of Shelby and Paul of Atlantic; daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Sievers of Walnut, Mrs. Albert Noehren of Wiota, and Dorothy and Daisy Sams at home; three brothers, Carlos and Clyde of Athens, Ohio and Harry of Canada and eight grandchildren.

Kenneth Sams Jr.

Atlantic - Services for Kenneth Sams Jr., 47, who died at his farm Southwest of here Saturday, were to be held Tuesday afternoon at Roland Funeral Home.

A World War II veteran, he had farmed in this area since being discharged.

Surviving are his widow, Alberta; son, Richard; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sams Sr., Atlantic; four sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Sievers of Walnut; Mrs. Albert Noehren of Wiota and Dorothy and Daisy Sams of Atlantic; two brothers, Alvin of Avoca and Paul of Atlantic.

Burial was to be in Atlantic Cemetery.

Robert C. Taylor

Robert C. Taylor, Former Atlantic Resident, Passes

Robert C. Taylor, 86, who was engaged in the brick and tile business here for many years, died at 4 o'clock this morning in an Omaha hospital after a 3-year illness.

Mr. Taylor, a resident of Atlantic for 37 years, left here several years ago to make his home in Omaha. He had lived in Denver, Colo., for the last two years but returned to Omaha last Sunday.

He was born November 16, 1853, near Oskaloosa, Ia., the son of John and Sarah (Brown) Taylor. On April 15, 1876, he was married to Harriett M. Kneeland.

To this union were born six children, all of whom survive. They are Charles E. Taylor of Des Moines, Mrs. Nellie M. Gardner of Denver, Mrs. Bird Day of Omaha, Mrs. Pearl McCarville of Omaha, Miss Beulah Taylor of Omaha and Mrs. Mabel Whitney of Chicago, Ill. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Taylor passed away December 18, 1933.

The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Osborne-Tomlinson funeral home in Atlantic, with the Rev. Richard P. Chambers of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery. The body will be brought overland from Omaha Thursday morning.

Burdie Young

At Atlantic, Iowa, Jan. 3, Burdie, aged 10 years, youngest child of William and Elizabeth Young, and niece of Mrs. Lewis Snyder of this city.
