BiographiesJohn Halvorson, merchant-Clear Lake-born 25 Oct 1842, near Risor, Kristiansand stift, Norway. His grandfather was a member of the Norwegian Storthing. Young Halvorson received a common school education in his native country; came to Mower county, Minn., at the age of twenty-three, where he remained for eighteen years engaged as a clerk as well as a merchant. In 1883 he settled at Clear Lake, Iowa, engaging in general merchandise. He has been a member of the city council for six years; and was married to lngeborg Olson, of Lyle, Minn., in 1869.
