JOHN BENJAMIN BONAWITZ

John B. Bonawitz , aged 18, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Bonawitz, a farmer of Washington township, living a short distance south of Luray, died at his father's home at 3:00 clock this morning of abcess of the liver and peritonitis. Mr. Bonawitx had been sick for a month. He was born in Washington township, Sept. 10, 1889 and had lived there all his life. He is survived by his parents, on brother and five sisters ____Charles, Anna, Bessie, Maud, Florence and Pearl Bonawitx, all of whom live with their parents. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock. The body will be buried at the Maple Grove Cemetery.

JOHN H. BONAWITZ

John H. Bonawitz , 89, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the county hospital after a long illness. He had been in failing health for two years, but became much worse two weeks ago. Age debility was the cause of death. John Henry Bonawitz was born Dec. 31, 1849, in Logan County , Illinois , the son of William and Phoebe (Lower) Bonawitz. He came to Iowa with his parents in 1860, settling on a farm eight miles southwest of Marshalltown . He married Miss Anna Meech, daughter of Abel and Maryann Meech, in December, 1882, and she died July 7, 1934. He is survived by one son and four daughters, Charles C. Bonawitz of Malcom, Mrs. A. H. Longman and Mrs. Anna Melberg of Marshalltown , Mrs. Charles Petermeier of Baxter and Mrs. Arnt Loney of State Center . The body is at the Estel funeral home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in charge of Rev. P.G. Dennis. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery .

Obit: Again this community is called upon to mourn the loss of one of it oldest and most exemplary citizen, who was esteemed for his sturdy Christain qualities.
Carl Friederich Wilhem Buhrow was born March 10, 1828 in Jagow, Prussia, German, and died May 23, 1905, at Laurel, aged 82 years, 2 months, 13 days.
On May 22, 1849, he was united in marriage to Charolette Christine Louise Krull of Weggun, Prussia, Germany who preceded him to the better land April 3, 1901.
To this union were born eleven children, two of who died in infancy. In the spring of 1854, he with his wife and three children, came to Berlin, Canada,
where he worked as a laborer for three ears, when he moved to Neustadt, Canada, where he purchased twentyfive acres of timber land and set to work to clear it.
Early in March, 1866, they came to Iowa, locating at Grinnell, then the terminus of the Rock Island railway. Here he found employment on the construction
train of the road then laying the track between Ginnell and Kellogg. In 1867 he moved to Kellogg, and assisted in the construction of the line to Omaha.
In the spring of 1869 he purchased and moved to the quarter section two mile south of Laurel, where he made his home until 1889, when he moved to Laurel,
where he resided until his death, making his home with his daughter, Mrs. T. H. Maytag, after the death of his wife.
While he was yet a young man he converted to God and united with the Evangelical Association of America, of which he remained a staunch supporter to the end.
His remains were laid to rest in the cemetery west of Laurel beside those of his wife.
He leaves to mourn his loss, besides a host of friends, one brother, Christian Buhrow, Mildmay, Ontario, Canada; seven daughters and sons, who are:
Mary Haak, Agusta Reimenschneider, Amelia Sash, Bertha Bulfer, C. F. Buhrow, Leah Bulfer, C. W. Buhrow, Minnie Maytag and Lydia Weissenburger,
also thirty-eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
