Mrs. Kurth Dies at 90 (25 Jan 1977 Marshalltown Times Republican)

Mrs. Mary Belle Kurth, 90, of Marshall County Care facility, died Tuesday morning at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. friday at Pursel-Davis Chapel with the Rev. Harley Gelhaus in charge. Burial will be in Marietta Cemetery. She was born Dec. 25, 1886, in Omaha Neb., the daughter of David and Jenny McDonald Edwards. She moved with her family to Ladora, Iowa, where she spent her early life and received her education.

She married Samuel A. Kurth March 29, 1907 in Ladora. Following her marriage she moved to Marshalltown in 1915, and except for a short time spent at Keller, Minn., had lived all her later life in this city. Prior to entering the County Care Facility, she had lived for 60 years at 702 S. 6th Street. Her husband preceded her in death in 1942.

Also preceding her were two sisters, one brother, four half-brother and sisters, one daughter, Ida, Mrs. Ray Potvin in 1946, and two sons, Robert in1952, and Merlin in 1972. Surviving are five children, Charles R. Kurth, Marshalltown: Mrs. Ethel Moyer. Des Moines; Irvin L. Kurth, Bellwood, ILL; Floyd B. Kurth, Des Moines and Mrs. Edna Evert, Morana Valley, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and five great-great ghrrandchildren.

Sam Kurth Dies at Deaconess Hospital (May 26th, 1942)

Sam Kurth, 702 South Sixth Street, a resident of thus city for the past 35 years, died Tuesday at 11:05 at the Deaconess Hospital where he had
been a patient for the past three months.Death was due to Tuberculosis.
Mr. Kurth was born April 18, 1889, at Ladora, the son of Henry and Barbara Kurth. He was married there March 20, 1907, to Miss Mary Belle Edwards.
They moved to this city 35 yeas ago and have liver here since.
Besides his widow, he is survived by eight children, Mrs Ray Potvin and Irvin Kurth of Chicago, ILL, Mrs John Koepple, of Des Moines, and
Charles R. Kurth, Merlin Kurth, Floyd Kurth, Mrs. John Butters and Robert Kurth all of this city, and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Kurth was one of 14 children, those surviving are Mrs. Frank Baldwin and Mrs. John Nicholson of Ladora, Mrs. Sidney Lagrange of Davenport,
John Kurth of Des Moines, and William Kurth of Marengo. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Pursel funeral home in charge
of Rev. C. Wayne Overholser.
