Pocahontas County, Iowa Hait’s SawmillThe only sawmill ever erected in the county was one located at Old Rolfe in 1860, by Wm. E. Clark and John M. Stockdale for the purpose of sawing the material for the first courthouse and bridge over the Des Moines river at that place. It consisted of a circular saw run by steam and was located near the residence of W. H. Hait on section 26, Des Moines township. After completion of the courthouse and bridge, Mr. Hait bought it and retained possession of it until 1870, when it was sold to the owner of a grist-mill in Webster county.
