THE OBITUARY OFEdwin J. Abbott |
Edwin J. Abbott, aged 77 years, former county treasurer and overseer of the poor, died of complications early Monday morning at his home, 509 Daman, after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Abbott had resided in this city for 47 years and was prominent in the Knights of Pythias, Grand Army of the Republic and the Odd Fellows. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Mr. Abbott was born in London, England in 1841 and came to America with his parents locating in Cleveland, Ohio. From that city he removed to Council Bluffs, where he has since resided.
He is survived by a wife and two daughters; Mrs. Nellie Langdon, San Francisco, California, and Mrs. James H. Craigmile, Council Bluffs. He also leaves a sister at Litchfield, Ohio.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Craigmile, 323 South First Street, the Rev. Wilford Ernst Mann, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
