THE OBITUARY OFSarah Packer Abbott |
At 7:30 o'clock yesterday morning, Sarah E., wife of Edwin J. Abbott, died at her home, 509 Damon Street, after an illness of three months with chronic catarrahl cuteretis. The deceased was born at Elyria, Lorain County, Ohio, April 4, 1843, and was therefore 45 years, 8 months and 22 days. She was the youngest daughter of Moses B. and Elmira Packer. Five sisters survive her: Mrs. John Hammer of this city; Mrs. John Purcuple of Lorain, Ohio; Mrs. Chas. E. Coon of Elyria, Ohio; Mrs. John Sprangle of Chetopa, KS, and Mrs. L. Hopkins of Chicago. She had also a brother, Capt. L. Packer, who resides at Cleveland, Ohio.
She was united in marriage with Edwin J. Abbott at Elyria, Ohio, October 27, 1861. Four children were born to them, only two of whom are living -- Mrs. James Craigmile and Mrs. James R. Barrett. She removed with her husband to this city in June 1871, and has since resided here at 509 Damon Street.
Mrs. Abbott was a noble woman of generous heart and highly respected by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, a kind and indulgent mother and a generous neighbor. Her death is a severe blow to the surviving children and the loving husband who has shared her joys and sorrows for over a quarter of a century past, and the grief that bows down his head today is greater than words can express.
The funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Rev. T.J. Mackay officiating.
