THE OBITUARY OFDr. Godfrey Bacher |
Dr. Godfrey Bacher died at 6 o'clock last evening at the Steam Laundry on Fifth Street. A week or two ago, the doctor went to the laundry for the purpose of getting some laundry he had there, and while waiting for it he was taken sick and grew worse so rapidly that he could not be taken to his boarding house.
The deceased came to Council Bluffs in July 1879, and soon secured an extensive practice, as he was regarded as one of the finest physicians and surgeons in this city. He was a graduate of one of the most thorough medical schools in Germany and was possessed of considerable intelligence.
Some months ago, his wife and children arrived from Pittsburg, PA, but returned to that city a month or six weeks ago. When informed of his condition, Mrs. Bacher left immediately for Council Bluffs, arriving on Tuesday afternoon, in time to administer to the dying man's wants. Mrs. Bacher is a niece of John Keller of this city, and is a very estimable lady. The doctor was about 38 years old, but was always of rather delicate constitution, and was unable to endure the hardships and exposure of a physicians life.
The funeral will take place from the catholic church tomorrow (Sunday) the exact hour of which will be duly announced.
The funeral of the late Dr. Bacher occurred from the catholic church on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended. The remains were placed to rest in the Catholic Walnut Hill Cemetery. (no gravestone)
