THE OBITUARY OFDr. Smith W. Bellinger |
Dr. Smith W. Bellinger, 38, died at his home 405 Oakland Avenue Monday afternoon, death being caused by nephritis, following a severe attack of grip. Dr. Bellinger was born in Ogdensburg, NY, August 8, 1876, residing there until 10 years of age, when the family was established at Greenfield, MA. Later he returned to Ogdensburg, living there until 1899, when he came to Council Bluffs.
His desire to enter the medical profession led him to take a course at the University of Nebraska, graduating in the class of 1904, after which he opened an office in this city. In 1907 he was married at Brockville, Canada, to Miss Edith McCallum.
Dr. Bellinger was a member of the American Medical Association, the Iowa State Medical Society, the Council Bluffs Medical Society and the Medical Society of the Missouri Valley. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, having attained the degree of Knight Templar. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.

The funeral of the late Dr. Smith W. Bellinger was held Wednesday afternoon, burial being in Walnut Hill Cemetery. The services at the family residence at 405 Oakland Avenue were held at 2:30 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. F.W. Evans of the First Presbyterian Church. The members of Ivanhoe commandery No. 17, Knights Templar acted as an escort to the grave, and the pallbearers were six brother physicians, five from this city and one, an old friend from Nebraska. They were Dr. V.L. Treynor, Dr. Becker of Nebraska, Dr. H.B. Jennings, Dr. J.H. Cole, Dr. F.W. Dean and Dr. Sydney Smith. The ritualistic services of the masonic order were held at the grave, being conducted by Bluff City Lodge No 71, A.F. and A.M. (no gravestone)
