Samuel Bivens

Captain Samuel Bivens, age 85 years, died Thursday morning at 5 o'clock at a local hospital. Mr. Bivens was a resident of Beatrice, NE, and came to this city two weeks ago to visit relatives. He was taken ill and grew gradually worse till the end came.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eva Bivens of Beatrice, NE; one daughter, Mrs. F.D. Parmer of Council Bluffs, and two sons, W.F. Bivens of this city and R.L. Bivens of Beatrice; and two brothers, John of Chillicothe, Ohio, and William of Beatrice, NE.

Mr. Bivens was the former county treasurer of Mason County, Illinois, and was the city treasurer of Beatrice since 1889. He was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting in 1861 in Co C 1st Ohio artillery, and was on the march with Sherman to the Sea being honorably discharged at the close of the war.

The body was removed to King's Parlors and will be sent Friday morning to his home at Beatrice where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon.
