Bentley, Norwalk Township

This village of 146 inhabitants is located in Norwalk Township on County Road C three miles east of Underwood.

Bentley is on the main line of the C.G. & W. Railroad. Bentley did not come into existence until the railroad was built through the township in 1903.

The town was platted in August of that year and the first building was a saloon erected by John Skelley. Later a lumber yard and office were built by the Fullerton Lumber Company. It was followed by the establishment of a bank, general store, blacksmith shop and elevator. Although the town never gained any prominence, it has remained a popular trade center for that section.

Bentley has one church, Presbyterian, a public school building of brick construction and well-kept business buildings and homes. Early Historical Description
