Barney Bonham

Barney A. Bonham, an old resident of the city and a veteran of the Civil War, was found dead in his bed yesterday morning at his home, 317 Pierce Street. Mr. Bonham arose at the usual time in the morning and after attending to several duties about the house went back to his room and was found dead several hours later. He had been suffering from a slight attack of pneumonia for the past two weeks, but his illness was not thought to be of a serious nature. He was 71 years of age and had hitherto been enjoying good health.

He is survived by his father, who is past his ninety second year. Other members of the family surviving him are his wife and seven children, Mrs. Carrie Stephenson of Minneapolis; Mrs. Maud Jeffries, Miss Alice Bonham, Miss Fay Bonham, Mrs. A.W. Warner of Sioux Falls, SD; Oscar Bonham of Omaha and Wilbur of this city. There are also two brothers, A. M. Bonham of this city and John Bonham of Rhylett, Nevada, and a sister, Mrs. D. J. Smith of Los Angeles, California.

Mr. Bonham was born, August 30, 1836, in Fleming County, KY. He came to Council Bluffs with his father in 1864, and was married in Tecumseh, Kansas, October 11, 1865, to Rebecca A. Cromwell. He served during the civil war as a member of the Fifty Fifth Illinois infantry and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Union Veterans Legion.

The funeral will be held from the residence at 12 o'clock tomorrow morning under the direction of Rev. Edgar Price of the First Christian Church. The services will be private. Interment will take place at the Clark Cemetery

All of Mr. Bonham's old comrades of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Union Veterans Legion who so desire may view the body at the residence, 317 East Pierce Street, this afternoon between the hours of 3 and 4 o'clock.
