THE OBITUARY OFEdmund Bridge Bowman |
The funeral of Edmund Bridge Bowman, who died at his late home at 1003 Second Avenue, Monday at 11:45 a.m., will take place from the residence at 2:30 this afternoon, conducted by Rev. L.P. McDonald, and the remains will be interred in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Bowman's death followed a prolonged illness. He was born in Bowdinham, Me., July 29, 1835 and was 63 years of age. He married at Glenwood, Iowa to Abbie D. Greenleaf of Wiscasset, Me., September 19, 1858. Mrs. Bowman died in this city several years ago. He leaves five children: Mrs. Louisa E. Troutman, Edmund Bridge Bowman, Jr., Anne T. Bowman, Mrs. Helen W. Allen and Frances R. Bowman.
Mr. Bowman derived his descent from Nathaniel Bowman, who came from England in 1630 with Winthrop. In 1848 he removed with his parents from Bowdinham to Wiscasset, Me., followed the sea until 1857, when he came to Glenwood, Ia.
He was county treasurer and recorder of Mills County during the war period and came to Council Bluffs in 1867. In 1868 he was appointed deputy county judge by Judge Hardin Jones to succeed the late John C. Turk. In 1869 he was elected county auditor, being the first incumbent of the office, which was established that year. Later he served as deputy county treasurer under Perry Reel, his brother Thomas Bowman, John H. Plumer and W.B. Reed. Owing to impaired health he retired from active business several years ago.
