Fritz Christian Bruhn was born September 1, 1835 at Augeln, Schleswig Holstein, Germany, where he was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran church of which he remained a true and consistent member till the time of his death. From 1859 to 1864 he served the Danish Kingdom in the war against Russia, at the close of which he was honorably discharged.

In 1867 he married Mrs. Catherine Petersen at Ostenfeld, Germany, who was to him a faithful and loving wife until her death in 1908. He came to America in 1869 locating at Davenport, Iowa.

In 1873 he came to Avoca where he has resided ever since as a true, loyal and law abiding citizen worthy of emulation. After a lingering illness of nearly two months he departed this life April 14, 1917 at an age of 81 years 7 months and 13 days.
