George Canning

GEORGE CANNING who for fifty years has been a resident of this city, died yesterday at his home on Canning Street, aged 80 years. The deceased was born in Oxford, Berkshire, England, where, in 1841, he was married to Mary A. Westall. In 1849 he came to America, settling in Council Bluffs, which he has made his home ever since. His wife died on August 4, 1896. Mr. Canning leaves seven children - four sons and three daughters. They are: Edward, the chief of police of this city; George now in Salt Lake City; Mrs. C.W. Paul, Mrs. J.W. (Alice) Jenkins and Frank of Omaha; William and Mrs. J.J. Siegel of this city. Interment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Funeral

All that was mortal of the late GEORGE CANNING was laid to rest yesterday afternoon in Walnut Hill Cemetery. The funeral was held from the family residence on Canning Street. The remains were followed to the cemetery by a large cortege. Four of the sons of the deceased, Edward, chief of police, William, Frank and Walter acted as pallbearers.
