THE OBITUARY OFWilliam S. Cooper |
W.S. COOPER, 74, realtor, lifelong resident of this city, was found dead on the floor of a garage at the rear of his summer home on Rainbow drive shortly before noon Thursday. Death, members of the family were informed, was due to a sudden heart attack. Mr. Cooper had gone to the garage after telling Mrs. Cooper that he intended to take a scythe and cut some weeds at the rear of the cottage. Apparently he never used the scythe, as it was still propped against the garage wall near where his body lay.
Although he had not complained of any definite sickness during recent weeks, close associates of Mr. Cooper said that he had been his normal self recently and acted as though nervous and not in the best of health.
Mrs. Cooper found her husband when she became alarmed at his prolonged absence from the house and went to see what had become of him. The body was cold when Mrs. Cooper touched it. Not in the most robust of health during the last month, Mrs. Cooper was prostrated at the discovery and with difficulty reached the telephone in her house and called to George Wickham, a close friend of the family and fellow occupant with Mr. Cooper of the offices at 107 Pearl Street.
Harry Cooper, voice teacher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cooper, living in Omaha, was informed of the death and hurried with Mr. Wickham to his mother's side.
Another son, John Cooper, Los Angeles, California and a daughter Ruth, also in Los Angeles, were informed by wire, while the news was telephoned to a second daughter, Mary F. Cooper, in Omaha.
W.S. Cooper was born in Council Bluffs. More than twenty years ago he was an active member of the city school board and held that office for several terms. His interest in civic affairs had always been great and; he was often consulted by members of the park board regarding improvements to the city park system.
Mr. and Mrs. Cooper recently disposed of their home on Canning Street and moved to the Rainbow Drive cottage, known as the Willana Teahouse, which was opened several years ago by their daughter, Mary.
It was their intention to make their home amid the beautiful Rainbow Drive surroundings and Mr. Cooper had worked at the house and grounds considerably since they moved there.
The body is at the Cuter Funeral home, where it was announced late Thursday that complete funeral arrangements had not been made.
Funeral services for William S. Cooper, veteran real estate man, will be held Monday at 10 o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. C. Carson Bransby will be in charge of the services. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
