Railroad Companies of Council Bluffs

1880-81 Chicago-Rock Island-Pacific Railway

The CHICAGO, ROCK ISLAND & PACIFIC RAILWAY crosses Illinois from Chicago; penetrates to Iowa from Council Bluffs, where it joins the Union Pacific. It also passes down southwest from Davenport, a distance of 300 miles and more to Kansas City, where it connects with that wonderful combination or concentration of roads extending west and southwest.

This company diverges to the north and south from its main line in Iowa at various points, enabling a traveler to reach every county seat in the state. Leaving Council Bluffs twice each day, reaches Chicago in 22 hours time.

The conduct of Mr. S.S. Stevens as general western agent of this line has largely tended, no doubt, to insure them a goodly share of the public patronage of the west. Mr. Stevens office is on the southeast corner of Pearl and Broadway, where are also tickets on sale for the Rock Island. Its every management is conducted in a courteous manner from head to foot.
