THE OBITUARY OFPeter Davis |
Died in Council Bluffs at noon Sunday, March 13, 1881, of apoplexy, Mr. PETER DAVIS, aged 34 years.
The many friends and acquaintances of Mr. Davis, here and elsewhere, who have not been previously advised of his death, will read the announcement with the greatest surprise and deepest sorrow. And the severity of the blow to the young wife, aged mother and brother and sisters will be more fully understood and will command still greater sympathy from all when it is stated that until within a day prior to his death he was around his house and was apparently in the full enjoyment of health.
On Saturday he was taken sick and a physician being called in pronounced his trouble a severe attack of pleuro-pneumonia. He grew rapidly worse and on Sunday, while in a delirious condition, produced by his terrible sufferings, he ruptured a blood vessel in the brain and died within a few minutes.
Peter Davis was born in Illinois, but came to Council Bluffs about twenty years ago, and for sometime past had been employed as salesman for the well-known teahouse of Metcalf Bros., in Omaha. In former years, Mr. Davis was a practical printer, having learned his trade in The Nonpareil office. He was a man of fine physique and handsome appearance and was one of those genial, whole-souled gentlemen who made for himself and employees staunch friends wherever he went. As a salesman he had few equals, and his services as such demanded recognition among the largest and most popular firms in the west.
By his sudden death, a loving wife and mother and a brother and two sisters have been bowed down with a grief that time alone can assuage, and an innocent little five year old child has been left fatherless, whilst a popular gentleman and citizen has been removed from our midst.
The funeral services will take place at the family residence on First Avenue (Court Street) between Sixth and Seventh Streets at 2 o'clock this (Tuesday) afternoon. Friends of the family are requested to attend without further notice.
