THE OBITUARY OF

Horace Dewey

Horace Dewey

At the Omaha Medical Institute on Sunday, February 2nd, 1890, HORACE DEWEY of Knox Township Pottawattamie County, Iowa, aged 63 years.

The above death notice will be of more than passing interest to many early citizens of east Pottawattamie County as the deceased settled in Knox Township in the fall of 1870, coming from Wisconsin in that year in company with W.C. Barton and Murrills Barton, now of Shelby County.

He was born in Rutland, Vermont, October 29, 1826, immigrated to Wisconsin in early life; enlisted in the 14th Regiment, Co. B, Wisconsin Vol., and served four years, having been wounded while in the service.

Horace Dewey was a good man and citizen, upright and sincere in all the walks of life. We in common with other friends of many years standing regret his death.

The immediate cause of his death was blood poisoning induced by a surgical operation upon the jaw for neuralgia.

He leaves a widow and one son, Charles Dewey, of this city. The remains were interred in the Avoca Cemetery on Tuesday, February 4th. The funeral services were conducted by Mt. Nebo Lodge No. 247, of which fraternity the deceased was an honored member.
