CHRISTIAN A. DINESEN died at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs Friday, July 21, 1922, aged 78 years, eleven months and fifteen days. The funeral services were held Monday, July 24 at his late home north of Avoca, conducted by Elder W.K. Smith of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Des Moines, where a large gathering of relatives, neighbors and friends congregated to pay their last respects. The body was laid to rest in the Avoca Cemetery.
Christian Anderson Dinesen was born at North Schleswig, Denmark, August 6, 1843, where he grew to manhood and hearing of the bright prospects America offered a young man who was willing to work, he came to America in 1866, locating in Connecticut where he lived for three years. March 1, 1869 he moved to Iowa, locating at Casey. For a short time he worked on the railroad and afterwards came to Avoca locating on a farm north of town.
On March 17, 1873 at Casey, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Miss Marie Mortensen of Aalborg, Denmark. To this union ten children were born, of whom three preceded their father in death. Besides a devoted wife he leaves seven children: Andrew, Jacob, Christian, Anton, Mary, Thomas and John, all living in Shelby County. He also leaves three sisters and eleven grandchildren.
In 1873 he accepted the Seventh Day Adventist Truth in which faith he remained the rest of his life. Christian A. Dinesen was a man of excellent character, a fine neighbor and a good friend, charitable and kind to all, a good husband and father. In his death the community has lost a good citizen. To the bereaved family the community extends heartfelt sympathy.
